  1. Hi all, Apologies I know this has been asked before but getting nowhere... Just changed timing belt, and replaced all accessory belts at the same time because I had some squealing at startup. Now, though, it's REALLY bad, and won't go away until I've done a couple of minutes of driving, then rev'd beyond 3,000 and let off the accelerator. All new belts, various degrees of tension (but fairly tight for what I'd like). How have people solved belt squeal? I've had this issue with several stageas now, and I don't know what the common element is. I suspect it's glycol on the belts from filling the radiator. VERY frustrating! I've had the car back from workshops after 100,000K services and it's had the problem; I've had an engine rebuilt with new belts and same issue; my friends cars have it bad... pulling my hair out with this one. I've tried: - spraying water on the belts, both stopped and while running - spraying water/detergent on the belts, both stopped and while running - brake/parts cleaner (good old carburettor cleaner, dissolves most things) - tightening belts - loosening belts - changing engines (not to fix belt squeal, but it didn't help) - rain dance So annoying, after doing so much work over the weekend to replace timing belt, to then have to drive around in what sounds like the loudest mouse choir on wheels. Any ideas which I haven't already tried would be welcome. cheers DaveB
  2. Weird squeal/screech noise when I hit high rpm/boost in my rb25det neo r34 nissan skyline. Anyone know what this could be? turbo? boost leak? Found here: Cheers.
  3. R32 GTR Squeaking noise under dash Hi, I've had my R32 GTR for a while now and suddenly it's started to make a squeaking noise form the dash area, or underneath, when driving. I've taken the dash off and checked everything (and removed the famous bubble) and put the car back together, but the noise is still there (bummer). I guess the only was now to find it would be to drive the car without the dash and get someone to listen. The sound is as if you cut styrofoam with a blunt knife. As there isn't really too much under the dash my thoughts are that it is likely to be the heater unit... Has anyone experienced this? Also, if I take the dash off and drive the car, would there be a technical issue (I know it won't be legal) to drive it without the instrument cluster? Any help would be appreciated!!! Cheers, Chris
  4. Hello! I just recently had my Timing belt done and all the accesories, tensioners/pulleys etc. The shop who did the job is very reputable and have done many jobs like this before. So when I got my car back I didn't notice anything, the car sounded fine. Drove it home, (3 hour journey) and just as im arriving when I do a pull from 1st gear in the parking space I hear a whinning noise from the engine? Was pretty tired so decided to look it up the next day. I read through some forum posts with people who experienced similar problems. That their belt would make squeaky noises, when warmed up mostly and around idle. In my case this is what i've discovered so far: Noise is there both when the engine is cold and warmed up and only seems to be apparent from 1000--1500rpm. Anyone have any ideas what this noise can be?!? More frustrating than anything! The timing belt kit installed is a Blueprint oem replacement. Video how it sounds: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OEsFwTc3Rp0
  5. v36 skyline remote. Beeper unlock lock noise With the v36 skyline remote. Beeper unlock lock noise. Can you turn the annoying beeping noise it makes every time you lock and unlock the car ?
  6. Hey guys, I have a strange issue with my RB25DET. It seems to have a weird fluttering/wooshing sound when coming on boost, a lot louder than normal. It seems to build and hold boost ok, maybe a little laggier than usual. I'm thinking maybe a boost leak, but here's the spanner in the works: the weird wooshing sound disappears during medium-hard left turns?? How weird is that? Does anyone know what could cause this issue and why it disappears during left turns only??? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
  7. So last weekend I decided to heighten the front coilovers a bit as it turned out the tyres would rub the underside of the guards on certain occasions. So I took them out, raised them up 5mm and bam; problem solved. After doing a test drive I noticed a variety of clunks and occasional noises and now I'm unsure if they have been there all along and I didn't notice as I always run the stereo, or is it to do with the work I just did. I don't believe it to be related to the past weekend work as it was a simple enough process and I put it all back together tightly. Even more confusing is that most of the suspension related parts are in good condition or relatively new. A quick run down... coilovers - around 15,000kms front sway bar - aftermarket, new polyurethane bushes 700kms ago swaybar links- 1300kms old tension rods - solid, 8,000kms steering ends - solid, 8,000kms LCA - standard tower brace I know that a set up like this is conducive to NVH but this is something else. The clunks seem to happen at lower speeds and usually when I'm just minding my business going in a straight line. Its not set off by any specific road conditions or driver inputs. The vibration of the clunk I can even sense through my feet, but I think its coming from both sides. Also there is one from the right rear of the car sometimes too. I did jack each corner of the car up and did a basic check to see if there was any play in the ball joints, but they seem ok. I did notice about an inch of sideways play in the front wheels, equally on both sides, and put this down to normal play in the L/R motion of the steering system (would that be right?) So yeah, I'm kinda concerned as I feel like I have the obvious stuff covered, but that said I don't have much confidence in tracking down these clunks. Has this happened to you? What was it? or what have I overlooked? Thanks!
  8. Hi all, Got a bit of an issue with my V35 manual coupe. Wondering if anyone has any ideas what could be causing the sound in attached video? Happens when decelerating from anything over 80km/h Steering wheel will shake sometimes, other times it doesn't. The noise is present without braking Wheels and tyres are fine - IMPUL F919S with new Federal 595RSRs Noise appears to be coming from drivers front wheel area Calipers are not stuck I've put the car up in the air and can't find anything visually wrong underneath. Spun the wheels by hand, sounds normal. Was hoping it would be a wheel bearing, but now I'm not so sure. Any ideas? received_1749827491756552.mp4
  9. RB26DETT Rebuilt engine nasty valve train noise on start up I just replaced the head gasket on this engine. I accidentally started the engine without priming it. After the start up, it immediately developed this nasty valve train noise. Does anyone know where is the noise originated from and how to fix it. Here is the you tube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51lzWDkK2nw
  10. Hello. I have a strange noise that's coming from my R33. It can be heard well when the car is idling. you don't hear it when reving or when your inside the car, only when you stand outside by the engine compartment. It sounds to me like a metallic grinding noise, coming from the podfilter. This didn't occur recently though I've driven the car for 8 months since this started. It haven't gotten worse or better, what could it be? I will post video of the sound so you guys can hear it. 2nd video is me recording just next to the podfilter. IMG_8199.MOV IMG_8820.MOV
  11. Hi everyone, my car is making a weird noise after I turn it on from cold or shut it off warm. This leads me to believe it's and exhaust component of somebody expanding and contracting but please let me know what you think. Thanks Vid: https://youtu.be/4YONIj38dto
  12. Hey guys got a r33 gtst and my rear right brake always squeals tried changing my rear rotors and brakes and still the rear right still squeals help plz any ideas
  13. First post, Hi all; Due to medical stuff I may only have so many years of vision left. When your eyes go a bit, your hearing picks up. Time for a 'fun car' while I still can!! My DC5, at any speed above 70 is like road noise gone to hell. I dont mind the sound of a nice engine, or exhaust, but road noise kills. So, Supra's are on the list, but I hate the interior, dont mind the 300ZX; but prefer the skyline! I want a project car, and will live with the DC5 for another 6 months while i 'work on it'. After reading an article about the suspension setup, and the bushes vs none between the R33 and the R32 rear ends, is the R32 noticibly louder on the road? I'm hoping not, because I prefer the R32 shape, I think i'd buy a shell and put a NEO in it as the project; but if the 33 is quieter, It wins hands down (and saves me the engine swap work). Anyone have experience with both and care to comment? Nice 2.75" exhaust with a couple of resonators to hear the engine but keep it freeway silent..... I can see it now Advice is greatly appreciated
  14. Hi guys, really needing some assistance on this one.. Excuse my poor explaining but here we go Basically i jump in the car and turn it on handbrake off clutch in engage reverse (BRRRRRRRR Begins) Slide back into neutral (BRRRRRR Continues) Slide clutch back out (Noise stops completely.) The same noise will also stop BRRRRR-ing once the car begins to move in gear, whether it be 1st or Reverse. Seems to happen most when the car is cold (whether this is related or not im not sure but its when i noticed it.) Incredibly stumped on this one, Uploader wouldnt let me upload windows media player files so i posted it on youtube and ill throw the link in the box too. Any help is greatly appreciated. And ill readily be checking the thread to answer more questions thanks guys~~!
  15. hey guys, had a look through this section and used the search but still couldn't find an answer or anything similar. As I'm turning to the right or going back to the centre from a left turn, there is a creaking noise somewhere in the front right hand side suspension. I've had a search on google and suspecting a worn ball joint? Is this a common problem and has anybody else had this problem? To describe the noise in full detail it sounds exactly like a door creaking open in a horror movie when the wheel is turned slowly. Would appreciate any help to this. Cheers, Sean
  16. I just replaced the timing belt and did the water pump too, put in new idlers and tensioner. Now im getting a whiny noise coming from the engine. Its around the belts area cant be sure which one it is. I took the timing belt off twice because i heard this, thinking id screwed up the timing but its all lining up.I tightened everything according to the torques given by the Workshop Manual. So if anyone has a clue whats going on please shed some light onto my path.
  17. Just picked up my Skyline this week. 2004 6MT Coupe. Apart from the noises I'm about to attempt to describe, it goes hard and I'm very impressed! For its age, it's aesthetics and performance are phenomenal, and the exhaust note is ridiculous, I'm not 100% if it's stock, sounds like a subaru at low speed and then opens up to a higher octave roar . Wish I had bought this before buying my Holden SV6. Noise #1. Whirring-Propeller like noise. (rear) It occurs in tandem with the speed of the car. Emitting from the rear. Faster I go the louder it "whirs", kind of like the sound of a high speed fan makes. Isn't affected by gear change, I coasted in neutral for a bit and it still whirred. After a bit of research, I've narrowed it to potentially being: The tyres, the wheel bearings, or the rear differential. Anyone else had a similar occurrence? Noise #2. Squeaking on left turn. (frontish?) When I turn left, some times right, it will squeak like I am applying the brakes (the noise that is), it'll keep squeaking when I straighten up, until I increase the speed, then it disappears. New brake pads? or something worse? Any help will be much appreciated! I will definitely be taking it to a mechanic on a day off and have everything inspected, but I'd like to go in with a bit of an idea as to the problem. Just figured there may be a simple fix to a known issue that a mechanic unfamiliar with the car may not know. Thanks again.
  18. hey guys i got an r34 gtr i just bought a trial titan tryforce 3' catback titanium. i have a venom 4'' cat and trust front pipes since fitting it last night, sounds amazing!!! BUT!!!!! has an awesome drone from 2700-3100rpm. has anybody got a titaium exhaust and had the same issue? its just got a resonator and a cannon muffler, ive heard the idea of stuffing your spare wheel cavity with sound deadening or blankets and stuff like that to stop the drone coming into the cabin, but didnt really work LOL!! once again it sounds great but annoys me that inbetween those rpm's especially on the freeway when your cruising at 110 and it sits on 3000. anybody got any suggestions
  19. Hi guys I've been lead to believe by my tuner that my VVT cam gear is making some noise. Around 5000rpm every single pull a noise is picked up by the knock sensor, which keeps going until about 5500rpm at which point it stops, and the ECU sometimes thinks it's knock and pulls timing to compensate. Tuner seems to think it is my intake cam gear, and believes it may be getting a bit noisy for some strange reason. Noise has been described to me almost as a "ddddrrrrrrdrrrrrdrrrrdrrrrrrrrdrrrrrrrr" (best way I can describe it on here) and happens every single pull. Can only be heard through the knock sensor which makes diagnosing it a real pain, as putting it on the dyno every time I replace a component is not even remotely practical. Normally this would not bother me enough to pursue, but because it is affecting how the car drives on some pulls, it's not something i'm happy to leave alone. He has also suggested that it could potentially be a lifter, but that seems very unlikely as these cars have solid lifters off memory. So I contacted Nissan, and am unable to get a brand new intake cam gear for less than $1,200 which is absolutely absurd. So i'm now contemplating other solutions to my problem, and have been thinking I would actually be better off going aftermarket cams with adjustable cam gears. However my setup is still relatively stock with a few bolt ons (front mount, exhaust, cold air intake, nistune ecu, stock turbo, stock injectors etc). So my questions really are: 1. Are there any other suggestions for what this noise could be? 2. What other solutions would I have rather than paying $1,200 for a gear from Nissan? 3. Would going cams on a setup as stock as this even be worth it? 4. How much power would I lose if I just went adjustable cam gears on the stock cams? On a side note, I have recently replaced the cambelt with a GATES timing kit as I was lead to believe that could have been the culprit. Mechanic told me the previous cambelt had not been done very well, and had likely been overtensioned. So this rules out the cambelt or any related tensioners to it, but could reinforce the idea of the cam gear being the culprit?... Appreciate any and all feedback!
  20. So, i've had this odd noise coming from my podfilter, as in my opinion sounds like a grinding metallic noise. This isn't something new though, it has been going on since 2016. It isn't that apparent irl but you can definetely hear it on idle when standing near the engine xD. I recorded a video with my phone which managed to capture the noise really well (since it's quite high pitch). I will link a clip with the noise below. Any wise thoughts on what it could be? cheers! 21. Hey guys i made a post in the past about a strange noise my motor has been making on the dyno. It is only heard through the knock sensor when listening in to it, and starts bang on 5krpm and stops around 5.5k every run without fail. Almost sounds like a very fast ‘ddrrddrrddrrddrr’ (best way i can describe the noise on here). Cannot be heard just listening normally. The ECU is picking this noise up and pulling timing occasionaly because of it, but me and my tuner are stumped as to what it is. It appears to be coming from somewhere in the head area of the motor (at least thats what it sounds like). I’m coming here to look for advice on where to look. The cambelt has just been done with all new pulleys is etc, and has been done properly as I was lead to believe that could be a potential culprit. Disabling the VCT does not affect it, noise is there whether that is on or not. Has anyone else had experience with this or any advice on what it could be? Tuner is thinking it may be my intake cam gear, but has never heard of them failing before. Should also add compression is fantastic on all 6 cylinders, and car only has 105,000kms. Any advice and input is much appreciated!
  22. Hello, Recently I have been having an issue with my r34 gt where as soon as accessories are turned on and car is started I can hear an electronic buzz that is extremely high pitched. It seemed to be coming from the aircon vent next to the hazard button so I took out the aircon fuse whilst the car was running and the sound stopped. A very strange problem but the noise is driving me crazy does anyone have a solution to my problem? Thank you
  23. What causes did you find for body/suspension squeeks and clunks? My r33 is modified and it does make a variety of noises while driving. I've just gone and replaced my coilovers for new, replaced my caster rods and even replaced the passenger side front lower control arm ball joint and to my great shock; all the squeaks and noises I had before, I still have! I'm especially confused as, in particular, I'm running out of things to replace on the front left, but I still have a clunk noise. So it got me thinking, what parts of the car have you proven were the cause of squeaks, clunks or general body noise? What have you changed which has solved it? I love my car and want to get it as perfect as a 20 year old car can be, so lets share the ways to make it a more pleasant drive.
  24. Hi all, recently bought a Nissan Skyline R34 GTT with the RB25DET. So far everything runs great, however I noticed that the sound of acceleration is a bit weird. I'm not sure what it could be. Turbo leak maybe? I included a sound file in this post. Is the noise normal? Also, during the winter I might want to do some checkups. Would you recommend to do a compression test, even if I don't notice any lack of power or blue/white smoke? Thank you! IMG_5469.mp3
  25. Greetings at you all. Recentlyish I put a GTR BOV on my R33 GTS-t sedan just for fun and perhaps a little more Bov noise. All was good for a day or so, then it started doing the weird fart noise at about zero psi. I thought it may have been because I did the small hose inside a larger hose trick, so I got a 38mm - 28mm reducing style hose and put that on but it still does it. So I made up a plate from some aluminium sheet and drilled some smallish holes in it to use as a gasket, thinking that the reduced flow to the plunger might help. It gave me the flutters, so I made the holes bigger and back came the fart noise again. If I block off the bleed hole on the outside of the BOV will this fix it? That is the next thing I was going to try. I have tried a different GTR BOV and it still farts at the same zero psi and put my GTS-t Bov back on and the farts stopped. Yes the GTR spring is softer than the GTS-t and I guess the GTS-t bov leaks back into the piping but the GTR leaks out. The car may even be more responsive with the GTS-t bov on? Knowing that many people have used GTR bovs on GTS-t's and that this fart issue has come up before (as I have searched heavily but found no fixes). I am at a loss and am wondering if there is a reason it happens and a way to stop it. If all else fails, I'll just use my GTS-t Bov again. No big issue. In case it matters, I have K&N panel filter, silicon intake pipe, Stock Turbo, 10psi actuator, R34 smic, gutted cat and 3" catback blitz exhaust. Any wisdom is much appreciated. TL;DR ??? Why does a GTR BOV on a GTS-t Fart? How can the flatulence be stopped? Rob.
