  1. Saw this mentioned on another forum, thought it was an interesting read: Car and Driver: Effects of Upsized Wheels and Tires Tested Plus-Size Models: Testing the performance effects of upsizing wheels and tires (April 2010) They tested near-identical tyres on different wheel sizes in 15",16",17",18" and 19" on a 2010 Golf. Here's the summary graphic: Obviously it's a fairly sedate front-wheel drive car but it's interesting that 17" and 18" seem to be in the sweet spot from a performance perspective. Going 19" resulted in slower acceleration, lateral grip, lower economy and more noise.
  2. Curious as to peoples first hand experience with the different brands, cometic, permaseal, OEM, durapro, tog, etc etc. As with most of the people in the world, one of my pet hates with my cars is something simple like the exhaust maifold gasket getting flogged out and have that infernal ticking noise and disgusting engine noise. Due to most people with skylines running big boost or big turbos, or pulling off the exhaust system to do maintenance, the gaskets usually get flogged out rather quickly compared to other "standard " cars. So I am curious to find out which products people tend to use and for what reasons. whether they be ease of access, price, performance, etc etc. Also curious as to other gaskets such as intake manifold, rocker covers and all others. So simply post a reply with which ones you use, how much they cost and why you use them and we will all be able to compare. Kind Regards, Michael
  3. Hello all, selling a brand new set of recently Bridgestone Potenza RE002 street tyres. RRP ~$1,560. These are a brilliant tyre option for the road. asking price $1,250 for set of 4. 245/40/18 No pics as they are brand new, with stickers on tyres - but can send via MMS. Preference is local pickup, but can ship at buyers expense. As reference: I sent some rims up to Brisbane a few months ago for around $40 as I have a trade account, so shipping cost minimal. Review: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=493484 You'll find cheaper Bridgestone's advertised for this price (check ebay). Reason: Enkie rims got a scratch on the passenger side, no point repairing as i'll keep them as track wheels and i'll buy a new set of rims, so need bigger tyres. Any questions feel free to ask. Adrian

  8. Hey, I did a little searching and there's is a thread out there but I need some specific questions answered I own a 2004 300gt and I realized it's lost quite a bit of power, my friends Accord Euro CU2 pulls faster than my 300gt, we tried a little 0-100 test and seem to be getting 8-9 seconds with the aircon and speakers shut off (which should be around 7-7.5). Are there any specific aftermarket parts that I should be looking at? At the moment here's what I got in mind for future performance mods: -Fujitsubo Cat Back -Motordyne Iso-Thermal Plenum Spacer -JWT Pop charger w/350z intake -Unorthodox Racing Pulley Underdrive -Transgo Shift Kit -Stillen Grounding Kit Had a look at the DC Sports headers but I'm not too sure if they would fit onto my VQ30DD Could my current straight pipe axle back (I think) make me lose power? Or just the fact that I haven't had a chance to clean my plenum yet? If someone could shed some light on this for me that would be great. Thanks, Richard

  12. New shoes/tyres I know this has been asked many times but hoping for some current advice on new tyres for the V36. car: V36 Coupe SP Manual with the standard 19's I think these are rim specs but not certain. The tyres are the same thats for sure so pretty sure this is right. Front:Wheels: 19"x8.5". Cast aluminum. Made for Nissan/Infiniti by Enkei. Weight: 26.5 lbs. Bolt pattern 114.3 x 5 Offset +43Tires: Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 225/45/19 92W. UTQG 140AA, weight 27 lbs., tread depth 10/32"Rear: Wheels: 19"x9". Cast aluminum. Made for Nissan/Infiniti byEnkei. Weight: 27.5 lbs. Bolt pattern 114.3 x 5. Offset +45Tires: Bridgestone Potenza RE050A 245/40/19 94W. UTQG 140AA, weight 30 lbs., tread depth 10/32" Currently running Bridgstone RE050A's and they were OK except a little noisy. It's a bit hard to compare as they are the only tyres I've had on the V36 but it's inline with what I have read. Now the rears are closer to the wear markers and winter is kicking in (and thinking they are old...), the traction is not great any more and on some occasions terrible if the tyres are cold even in the dry. Cornering seems OK but any throttle and the car likes to over-steer. Fun but not ideal when not trying to with the misses in the car ha ha. I can now hit it in first gear with the clutch already out and chances are the rears will spin in the dry and in a straight line. I am looking at the Bridgstone RE003's on the standard 19's. Would I get away with 245/40/19 on the front, over the standard 225/45/19? The same on the rear, or a wider 275/35R19 on the rear? Doesn't appear the 225/45/19 is available in them. Or doI go the bridgestone S001's? The fronts are available in the s001's. Do I go wider anyway? Or stick to OEM sizes on the OEM rims? I was originally wondering about Toyo r888's and also a few other higher wearing tyres but thinking the RE003's are a good balance. Any other suggestions? I am not brand loyal other than considering two bridgestone tyres above. I hope to track it in the near future, but the car is mainly a daily so don't want to base it purely around track times. I'm prepared for some wear if it means decent grip however.
