Here are some great performances from last week’s Race 4 Real at Sydney Dragway. Top Holden of the Week With Australia’s automotive manufacturing industry coming to a close, it was great to see bona fide Australian classic such as this beautiful yellow HT Monaro GTS strutting its stuff down the quarter-mile. Props to the owner for keeping it in such immaculate condition. Top Japanese of the Week Certainly not something you see every day, this Mitsubishi Express was anything but standard – and with a best time of 14.64 @ 92.61 MPH, I’m not just talking about that paintjob. 10. Weekly Race 4 Real Report: October 26, 2016 Wednesday night Race 4 Real off-street meets continue to be one of the most popular events on the Sydney Dragway calendar and it’s quite easy to see why! Here are some great performances from last week’s Race 4 Real at Sydney Dragway. Top Holden of the Week Managing a best run down the quarter mile of 11.42 @ 118.74 MPH, this relatively sedate looking VL Commodore reminded everyone that the mighty VL Turbo can still hang with the new blood. Top Japanese of the Week The Subaru Liberty is the epitome of a wolf in sheep’s clothing and the Gen 4 is arguably its most popular iteration, combining sharp, understated styling with WRX-matching performance in GT form with the potential for even more. This grey example ran a best time of 14.51 @ 96.77 MPH, demonstrating just how capable these machines really are. Top Rotary of the Week This green Mazda 1300 was certainly different from the rotary builds we usually see here at Sydney Dragway. With that signature rotary powerplant coupled with a tare weight of about 900 KG, give or take, this little monster ran a best time of 10.65 @ 122.11 MPH. Top European of the Week The MK7 Volkswagen Golf R is a technical showcase of just how far the hot hatch has come since the introduction of the MK1 Golf GTI more than 40 years ago. Boasting a turbocharged powerplant and immense AWD grip, the Golf R rocketed down the quarter mile to a best time of 11.94 @ 115.07 MPH. Top Ford of the Week Breaking into the 10 second bracket is a serious feat for a street car and the FG Falcon is one of the easiest cars to achieve this in with not too much by way of modifications. Managing a best run of 10.72 @ 129.31 MPH, this Falcon was packing some serious horsepower. Commentator’s Pick of the Week Definitely not something you see every day, it was definitely a pleasant surprise to see this Ford F-150 testing its performance here at Sydney Dragway. As menacing as they come with its enormous bull bar, a set of off-road radials and those ridiculously large exhaust tips, this beast of an F-150 stormed down the strip to a best time of 17.73 @ 77.90 MPH. Here are some great performances from last week’s Race 4 Real at Sydney Dragway. Top Holden of the Week Definitely no stranger to a good smoke show, this blue VX Commodore looked as good as it sounded and packed some serious performance to match. That massive hood cowl, a hint at the kind of immense horsepower lurking within this Commodore’s engine bay. Top Japanese of the Week The GT-T Skyline is often overlooked against its GT-R counterpart, offering RWD instead of AWD and the RB25 single turbo setup as opposed to the GT-R’s RB26 twin-turbo powerplant. However, they’re definitely no slouch, packing loads of potential. Take this silver R34 for example, running a seriously impressive best time of 11.72 @ 133.38 MPH. Top Rotary of the Week Little cars burning fat sets of rubber are always a welcome sight here at Sydney Dragway. This green monster of a Mazda R100 put on a show, sounding mental and managing an insane best time of 10.70 @ 128.51 MPH. Top European of the Week When it comes to making go-fast SUVs, Mercedes-Benz definitely knows a thing or two. Take this ML63 AMG for example, running a best time of 12.12 @ 115.17 MPH – mind-blowing performance out of an SUV. Top Ford of the Week Cracking into the 10s with a best run down the strip of 10.82 @ 134.52 MPH, this FG Falcon proved itself to be an absolute beast of a performer. And those plates? And with an incredible best time of 10.40 @ 130.53 MPH, needless to say it was packing some serious horsepower. Top Japanese of the Week A little car with some serious anger issues, the Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart is a fantastic piece of kit. Essentially a baby Evo, its turbocharged 1.5L powerplant propelled this Colt down the strip to a best time of 14.99 @ 98.86 MPH. Here are some great performances from last week’s Race 4 Real at Sydney Dragway. Top Ford of the Week With an amazing best run of 10.46 @ 135.21 MPH, this F6 Typhoon Ute had to be packing some serious firepower underneath that bonnet. Nothing on the exterior hints at just how capable this F6 really is either, besides those fat rear drag radials of course. Top European of the Week The Lotus 7 was purpose-built with munching corners at the circuit in mind so not too often do you see them making the odd venture down the quarter mile. Despite this, they can more than hold their own in a straight line with this silver example running an impressive best time of 13.50 @ 97.33 MPH, no doubt due in part to its ultra-lightweight construction. Top European of the Week It’s no secret that old Volvos make fantastic sleepers and this silver 244 sedan is a perfect example of that. Frying tyres and running an impressive time down the strip, this 244 had to be packing something crazy underneath that bonnet. Top Ford of the Week With a best quarter-mile time of 10.43 @ 130.33 MPH, this no-nonsense Ford Capri backed up those ‘INSAN8’ plates without question. 22. Weekly Race 4 Real Report: September 14, 2016 Wednesday night Race 4 Real off-street meets continue to be one of the most popular events on the Sydney Dragway calendar and it’s quite easy to see why! Top Holden of the Week This VK Holden Commodore looked incredibly clean and ran some fast times to match with a best run of 12.66 @ 107.72 MPH. Not to mention, it sounded off its chops! Top Japanese of the Week Don’t let the plates ’10SGTR’ fool you, this Midnight Purple R33 Skyline GT-R is capable of even faster times, breaking into the 9’s with a best run of 9.88 @ 141.36 MPH. That’s crazy even by GT-R standards! Top Rotary of the Week There’s no denying that the Mazda RX3 is a favourite here at Race 4 Real and it’s easy to see why. This black beauty ran an impressive best time of 11.56 @ 123.94 MPH, all whilst looking stunning and sounding awesome. Top European of the Week Props to the owner of this mint Volvo 240 for bringing it along and piloting it down the quarter mile to a very respectable time of 15.62 @ 88.18 MPH. There’s surely something special under that bonnet despite that standard exterior. Always great to see classics like this coming down to Race 4 Real! Top Ford of the Week A Falcon XR6 Turbo is a great choice for anyone with a love for speed, with a tonne of potential that’s easily untapped from its boosted Barra ‘6’ powerplant. Take this Phantom Purple example for instance, running a best time of 13.65 @ 114.37 MPH – and that’s barely scratching the surface. Commentator’s Pick of the Week With a very impressive best run of 11.98 @ 115.22 MPH, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that this mental Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT can back up its ‘SRTGOD” plates. Race 4 Real is on every Wednesday night at Sydney Dragway, weather permitting. Keep it safe, legal and off the streets! Gates open at 4:30PM and racing starts at 6:00PM.
