Rb30 Hybrid Upgrade, All Dyno Results

Recommended Posts

A small update on mine.

I have changed from a borg warner s360sx to a s362sxe using the same exhaust housing and everything else the same.

Due to fuel pressure issues we only did one run over 20psi which is below. This is on very soft timing and once fuel issues are sorted it will do over 500kws

Finally got around to installing some 1650cc injectors and C125 dash, plus a quick retune - quick because it was 38'c in the workshop and intake temperature wasn't conducive to tuning and power runs.

Having said that, it surprised me how well it performed in the oppressive heat. We did a run at 29psi (564+) and a run at 31psi (578) It gained 7kW/psi. We commenced a third run at 33psi but it popped a cooler clamp. New clamps fitted ready for another session early in the new year. I think 595-600+rwkw at 33-34psi is realistic.

Recently jumped ship from an internally stock RB25 as she was about to grenade herself.

New specs:

S2 RB25 head fully refreshed. New OEM lifters, 268/272 9mm camtech cams, welded and mated to a RB30 block and external VCT oil line.

RB26 ITB setup with brand new OEM throttles and adaptor plate mated to the head. Controversial to what people bang on about these adaptors, I have never had a issue nor one leak.

Forged RB30 block. CP flattop pistons, h beam rods, ACL race bearings, N1 pumps, OEM balancer, larger sump.

Gen II GTX3582r .82 with a 50mm pro gate welded onto the housing. Hyper tune 600 x 330 x100 cooler, 3 inch exhaust with waste gate plumbed back in.

1000cc injectors, 044 external pump running of the surge with a in tank denso

Link storm ecu with a bunch of sensors monitoring the engines vitals.

Plenty more I have missed, but you get the idea.

E85 made a maximum of 363kw but the Link kicked in fuel cut as we didn't have enough fuel to feed the engine. Detuned to the same as 98 at 340kw.

Larger fuel pump/s and possibly injectors and I'll go again. For now I am going to enjoy it for what it is!

Hey guys little update, its been a while, After playing with no vct using the s0 rb25de head i have now changed to rb25 s1 vct head and have kept vct using the external feed, only changes to the setup is the head and a larger gate.

Little run down on what it has now,

Bottom end:

Stock rotating assembly, stock rods, stock pistons, stock crank with rings and bearings and using arp hardware.

Head:

S1 rb25, stock cams, kelford springs, slighty ported exhaust ports, 1.3mm cometic gasket with arp studs.

Inlet:

Freddy plenum, cleaned up the castings as it looked like aids on the inside, 80mm chinga throttle body.

Exhaust side:

6boost high mount with 60mm turbosmart gate, hypergear atr45ss 6x6 (12 blade) billet compressor wheel with .82 rear, full 3 and a half inch stainless all the way from turbo to rear with a cat and medium size ressy.

Ecu:

Haltech v1 platinum pro plug and play with wb1 and flex sensor

Fuel:

1000cc bosch injectors, stock metal hard lines with standard size rubber hose, single walbro 460 in tank pump, turbo smart 1200 fuel pressure reg with race works rail.

Probably missed a few things but most should be covered.

Ended up with 340kw on 98 and 415kw on e85 at 21-22psi, old head made 370kw on 98 but was at 25psi, now with vct and the wider power band we calculated that the 340kw with the vct and that it comes on earlier versus 370kw before hand its actually the same average power over all which was interesting.

Now have kelford vct 262/272 9.35 lift cams in and some 1600cc injectors to go in so will see what it will take on stock fuel lines and see how far the pump will go. 20180507_210943.thumb.jpg.e0612d8de8d66cc0fd4111571ad7e2bf.jpg20180327_225537.thumb.jpg.326faa372ffc38201c38c29e2f7b27a2.jpg20200603_142508.thumb.jpg.87c976ecbf6f74068843ecdfb36f8873.jpg20200419_115621.thumb.jpg.fac8f95ddc69e5e7c433aebe42ddd45d.jpg

Pretty sure there's other bits n pieces I've missed out. Churned out a very conservative 360awkw on a 4wd roller dyno. Rev limit is only 7.5. No timing etc in the tune. Purely tuned to conserve the stock box, peak boost of aroun 13psi.

I've ordered an Albins kit from PRP, however its taken Albins just over 1.5 years and I still don't have the box as they keep f**king me around

Once the box is on, I've got an Alpha Omega 1 piece shaft as well, along with other bits, and will turn the wick up.

Still more to go.. Looong list of crap that needs doing.
