well, the day that i was beginning to think would never arrive, has finally come.

that's right for those of you who've hung around these boards for a while will know that i've actually owned a R34 GT-T for a while (lets not mention 18 months) and also most likely know that it has not been registered...... until Wednesday the 29th of March. Yep, my car that i have owned officially since June 2004 finally has number plates!!!

It's taken 2 years (since i first started looking with the broker) to the day i got it registered, and there were times when i just didn't even care. But now that i can drive it legally :P i'm one happy camper.

I'm sure a lot of you will read this and think "meh" but i know there are a few of you who know kinda what's been going on.

anyways, even though i've been a member since the first sign up day, i've never had the car to go with so i hope i can see some of you at SAU events, but with a Skyline this time :P

thanks for reading

god damn, have been following for a while. Massive ordeal!! but finally it has come good. Congrats mate, hopefully it is 1 sexy lady. Glad the crazyness has come to an end, and hopefully you can make up for lost time :P

thanks guys, actually GTTR34 i think i saw your car at the Glen area about 1 month back, 100% it was your car, the wing and gold/silver rims are hard to miss :P

i think i may have a boost problem tho.... does the guage under the tacho ever go past 4? it seems to hover close to it when cruising and then never seems to go past it when i put the foot down.... and i'm not sure if the boost guage is getting above 0....

i really have a lot to learn, but is it possible that i have a leak somewhere? i thought i might just be getting use to the power (coming from a 54kw '91 pulsar) but i think some days are better than others, i swear it was running better the other night...

hey alan :P yeah there were many issues... the RAWS team in Canberre are not our friends :P

considering you're so close, i'm happy to provide R34 rides for events, you don't have a skyline do you?

don't know anything about boost leak do you? :)

dezz, 2 years is a long time, you still waiting on yours? or is it all sorted?

hmmm... the guage under the tacho is your oil pressure dude :P usually it should idle around 2.. and under normal driving about 4 on that guage.

the boost guage on the factory 3-guage cluster on the right. Just watch it move when you hit the throttle, with the stock solenoid it should only hit 7psi.

make sure you use 98 octane fuel, and i'd recommend giving it a service, oil/filter change, probably change your fuel filter while you're at it, as you probably still have the original one in there.

Thanks mate, thats much appreciated. Does that mean we will see you at some DECA stuff etc?

Bad timing I guess but we have just bought a place in Port Melbourne and move there in about a month so wont be so close anymore :P Will still be up in Brighton regularly for the to see the gf's parents so will have to catch up.

Sorry, no nothing about boost leaks on skylines. Have you tried any of the other 34GTT owners, Adz, Pete etc.

I can't belive it took so long. Not sure about the sory on this.

I would find 2 weeks too long to wait.

When I had my gearbox replaced it took around 2 months from the time it blew to the time I sourced another & had it fitted.

That wait nearly killed me!!

hey Daz, i remember chatting with ya way back when i was sorting out compliance i think? we both started R34 looking at the same time i think. You go through cross-over?

alan yeah, catch up sounds good :D not many skylines around our areas - what car do ya drive anyway? you seem to be involved with the club quite heavily... i'm sure i'll cya soon :O

yeah, will be good to go to a cruise/meet in a skyline as opposed to a Pulsar :) altho, i didn't mind using my car as a road block on beach rd as you guys tried to get out of a carpark one day ;)

Story for those not interested :P

- broker paid, hunt began April 2004,

- car found mid May at dealer outside Tokyo (Aichi)

- offically owned car early June 2004

- missed a few boats due to paperwork issues

- some storage required at brisbane port due to more paperwork issues

- car arrived at compliance workshop late'ish August 2004

- workshop to gain ISO/RAWS approval

- estimated 3 month need for the car, looking summer 2004

- delays, delays, delays totalling about 18 months (no need to bore with details)

- VicRoads visit, March 29th, 2006

if you know anything about varying boost leaves between different gears

Daniel I have a blue liberty RX with SAU stickers. There are a few pics of it from the Nov DECA. Striving to get back into something quick but the hunt seems to be neverending. BTW - I can relate to that time frame, near enough exactly. :(

    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
