Hi Guys,

Im about to do some serious upgrades to my s15 aiming at atleast 250rwkw and i know that my 6sp box will turn to cactus as soon as this is done and im too poor to go par/dogbox and i dont want to throw away 1300 on a new clutch/fly to go on the 6sp and then get a new box anyway..

i dont really know that much about skylines but i hear that the series 2 r33 box is good for around 700hp which seems pretty much ideal. fyi the clutch im getting is made by orc

so the questions that i have are:

are there any 6sp rwd gearboxes for skylines?

r33 series 2 vs r34 neo? which one is better etc..

upon buying the gearbox what else will i require? i know ill need the housing modified and a new tailshaft

is there anything i should look out for while im doing this?

how will this impact the s15 diff?

sorry for all the questions

many thanks

no

34 is reportedly better and stronger , but rarer and more expensive .

is there anything i should look out for while im doing this?

they are hard to find cheap or they are expensive when found . obviously try and get a good condition low km one

how will this impact the s15 diff?

should be fine

thanks a bunch for the info arkon

question on the 34box- how much is expensive?

and also is it just the housing and tailshaft that needs to be modified?

with the housing is that something that can only be custom made and not something that i can buyas a part?

recomended places in vic to do such things?

quick update:

buying a brand spankers r33 series 2 box for 3k

will need to get gear stick so might as well get a short shifter.

modified housing. maybe a r33s2 tailshaft or vl depending on availability and custom cross members.

can anyone in melb recommend a good place to get this done?

also as far as clutch goes. orc vs os? thoughts and opinions pls

the gtr or the gtt?

can you tell me anything else about them? like i dunno how much they can take? or maybe even where to get one?

the 350z also comes stock with a 6sp box and that also 200+kw engine...

meh this is becoming a real headache... coz i dont want to break my stock box

quick update:

buying a brand spankers r33 series 2 box for 3k

brand spankers as in brand new never used ? from nissian ?

and do they have anymore ?

i would just get that box or another one like it . the r33 box is a really nice gb . its an immesurable improvement on your s15 one .

jspec racing hehehe

anyways..

I have a R34 GTT Gearbox, picked it up for $1500, with 17,000kms on it, i thrash the absolute crap out of my car, and this box loves it (200rwkw)

if you can afford $3,000 for a new one, get a gearset for your s15 box, would be the same price or around that and less f**king around.

just an idea

    • Yes the gear for the R33/34 is different, it is red and has a different number of teeth. My part didn't come with that gear though, so I don't know how many teeth are on the red one. You'd have to reuse the 260RS/R33 gear, as long as it's not destroyed.   Haha, as unfortunate as that might be it was working fine for about the first 1500km I've had the car for now.
    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.
    • Where is the warning "That this thread is super old"   I just went into a 5 year old thread, went to do a reply, and couldn't see anywhere obvious a warning of it being super old
    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
