Dash Warning Lights Coming On Whilst Driving

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i need help with an intermittent problem where as im driving along the engine warning light, TCS light and SLIP light all come on at once. These lights will stay on the entire trip until the car is stopped and switched off. Once restarted the lights don't come on. It only occurs sometimes maybe when the car is cold but they remain on the entire trip until the car switched off and restarted again. It may happen once every 4 or 5 times i drive it. The performance does not seem affected by this.

.

Does anyone have any idea of the possible causes. I have a feeling it may be a loose connection but im unsure how to diagnose it.

.

Cheers Gio

Hey Gio,

I experienced the same thing on my R34 - after I sold the car, I was told it was one of the coil packs had a slight leak.

If you listen very closely to the top of the engine and only just slightly touch the accelerator cable so the engine goes up only 100rpm or so, you'll hear a ticking sound (not the injectors, its a louder 'tick/spark' sound), thats part of your spark escaping out of the coil pack onto the head.

On my 34 you could actually pinpoint the sound to cyl 4 - with the bonnet closed and reving it hard - you cant hear it.
