I need to remove paint from fibreglass parts off my race car. I have a blaster with both sand and glass mediums.

My question is will it hurt the fibreglass?.

I hate using paint stripper and sanding is such a pain in the arse.

Unfortunately I have no part to experiment with and would hate to ruin a perfectly good one.

oh and what type of blaster? what psi? what grit is the sand?

Chris I don't think they are gel coated,,,they are mainly dive planes and wheel vents.

The blaster I have is one of those tabletop chinese ones you find at Hare & Forbes. It's no industrial type unit just small and simple.

They recommend 80psi and it seems to work great on steel stuff. I used it to blast some race wheels and it was great.

I have no idea what grit the sand is,,,my father in law had it in his garage.

my money is on it splitting the fibreglass before it strips the paint. dont be lazy, just use sandpaper lol.

yeah same unit i use.

prob 60-80 grit garnet.

i would think that at the 80psi it wont have any adverse effects on teh glass unless you sit in one spot for a long period of time.

when I was building rods, we did a number of corvettes... I blasted the doors (inners are steel) and very quickly went over the skins to take off as much crap as I could... Didnt have any negative effects, though I did finish them with sandpaper....

Light, home use blast cabinets shouldnt cause to much harm, just keep it moving all the time.
