The pink circle is where the new plug will be inserted.

The brass plug is the return oil passage from the VVT solenoid to the head.. not much exciting in there, but I just wanted to look in there!

I bought a 25/30 and i dont think this has been done to the engine. It hasnt been driven for too long so hopefully the damage isnt too much. Im going to be swapping the heads soon anyway. So is this as simple as removing the plug and drilling it from the back then across halfway?

The pink and the green holes. Did you have to drill any of those out? Im asking as Im avoiding the scenario where I have to remove the cams. Can this be done without removing the cams? When I fit the brass plug back in does the perpendicular hole have to line up with the pink hole?

Interested to know from anyone who has used the TLG VCT kit posted here. It seems like it would work but I’m very sceptical. Maybe someone could explain how they think this would address the oil problem. It has an alloy block that removes the VCT solenoid from the head and relocates it to the right hand side of the engine, right under the oil pressure sender unit.

So the oil supply to the alloy block is Tee'd from the oil pressure sender. Then it goes from the alloy block to the original location for the VCT solenoid. My question is how does this trigger the normal operation of the VCT gear. What stops the oil flowing back into the engine block if there is too much resistance on the supply side. It seems like the external oil feed has been used quite a bit but from the search I’ve done. I cannot see how the VCT is activated using this method. Also noticed that the VCT solenoid had a second o ring the bore on the TLG doesn't seem to be using this.

Bryce I'm currently using this kit. I have to pre-warn you though and tell you that the creator is not very transparent, it took me almost 3 months from payment to receiving the product. Told me that his machinist was giving him the run around, and it wasn't until the machinist messaged me personally that I received the whole picture and not the one side. He takes the orders before even telling his machinist to make the kits and does not keep large stock of them in advance.

NOW, this kit is fantastic... I currently use it on mine with an RB25 Neo head with an RB26 block. The unit takes its feed from the pressurised oil in the side of the block, and the solenoid then turns on or off and allows oil to flow into the head. The piece that gets screwed into the head is like a dummy VCT Solenoid, and sends oil into the correct port and then up into the VCT Gear.

The kit was pretty damn easy to install and I'd say pretty discrete as well. I had actually tapped a hole in the front of the head because I didn't realise this was an option, instead welded that back over and went with this kit and happy I did.

This is how i did mine. You cant even see it with the manifold on an retained the vvt sensor in std location and is fed from the same location off the side of the block/original rb30 pressure sensor hole. I also retained the 25 neo oil cooler. This wayit looks stock.

Very accurate. I'm buying the kit off a mate.It took him more than a month to get his stuff.So I'll just buy it off him. Have you guys checked to verify that VCT is engaging?

I can physically feel the VCT engaging, VERY noticeable difference in torque with the VCT plugged in. 

I use this controller to tell it when to turn off and on.

So these external kits with the machined block for remote solenoid mount will only work on a NEO head and RB30 or RB26 bottom end

 

For an R33 head on a 26 bottom end the remote vct kit is to resolve RB26 manifold adaptor plates etc  IF you try to use the remote VCT on an RB30 or RB26 bottom end with an R33 head then  you can starve the cam journal???

I have one of these kits from bits I had years ago before plans changed

This looks like I can run the v termite vct kit to feed the VCT on an R33 head on an RB26 bottom end?!?!?

 

Lol.... don't v have these problems on RB20s :)

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...  
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
