Not knowing exactly what they look like, how come 4? I imagined 1 joint for each (front) corner?

Also, what difference did you feel once it was done?

There are two lower ball joints on each side at the front (below). You may be thinking of the pivot bearing that the front hubs locate on, of which there is one on each side.

Yep. Two per side. The one shown above mount to the front cross member and the outer ones are in the bottom of the hub, outer ones have two mount holes.

Steering felt more direct and the front end didn't make any thuding noises, also car didn't track as much.

Now my castor rod ends are shot (rose jointed aftermarket ones) and they need to be replaced again!
