Boss Automotive is another place as they are the diff specialist

+1, I had my r31 fitted with an LSD made by Boss and it was awesome. Wasnt cheap because I went all out but it was damn good...

i am in the mist of looking at getting my r33's diff shimmed

got a quote of like $600 for removal, shimming and re fitting the diff

which i dont think its over the top as they are the speciallist in it and from memory they were going to be replacing the bearings as well

Also shimms wear down unlike welding... which break :wacko:

I reckon 1.5 or 2way LSD is the way (orrrr the welder)

1.5 is more streetable

2way is a bit iffy, depends where, when how you drive

I shimmed mine LSD. Was tight as a b!tch, great to have 150% locked. Saying that though, one day through marion car park reversing out a car park..... f**king BANG :D ..... it broke.

Just remember, more tractive force from the diff center puts a lot more load on drive shafts, cv joints and bearings. As well as on the rest of the drive train and mounts.

I will shim peoples diffs for $250 + you supply the oil and gasket if needed (HICAS diffs a little extra unless you pull it out). People can also came and watch while I do it and that way they can learn how it is done them selves. This is handy because as people have mentioned above they will wear so after a couple of years they will need to be done again.

What people are saying about a shimmed diff's being a locker isn't necessarily true. You can shim then to be a locker but if you select the right shim it will just be a really tight V-LSD and it won't skip. Also the Shimming is preloading the viscus cuplink and isn't actually changing the back lash, the bearing shims do this not the cuplink shims.

i found a bit over 3mm (over both sides) was best for me, i recently just chucked in 2x 1.6mm ones in over the top of the standard ones, locked her up good and tight lol

just be careful, if u go too thick like i did, it wont fit in the housing anymore, i had to create custom bearing shims (thinner) so it fit in lol.

please correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe my diff is the same as S15 (Helical diff) not viscous

am i still able to shimm this diff? i'm intending to use this for drift, only until i can afford a 2 way LSD

looks pretty easy to do DIY

      I hate to say it, but this isn't a 'great length' to steal a car. The people that steal high value cars are very used to stealing cars from garages. It really isn't a complicated process, a lot of people leave their keys in very typical places (think bowl/rack by the front door). You break into the house, grab the key and off you go. So what, in about 1 minutes time they have taken the car?  Probably goes without saying that most of these cars being pinched in this manner are the higher end Audi/AMG/etc. It's the same process though regardless of whatever the car is.  If you're worried about this, keep your car out of sight. If no one knows its in the garage, no one is coming for it. Other things include if you have an aftermarket ECU, change a setting so the car won't start even with the keys, setup CCTV cameras that ping your phone on activation etc.  If you think it's hard to break into a house to grab the keys first, just picture the fire fighters coming to recuse someone from a burning house. It's what, 10 seconds to gain entry if that? Locks only help honest people stay honest.

      Yes but when you buy that Nissan/Ryco filter it comes in a Nissan box labelled as Nissan. In this case it was in an Aisin box. A heads up would have been nice. If I had received it in an Exedy box I wouldn't have a problem if that's what Exedy supplied. I don't really care as long as it does the job as well as the Exedy did. 8 years of 300+rwkw with a fair bit of abuse. Time will tell as always. I have a swirl pot thingy, constantly self bleeding. If it is air in there it will sort itself out soon enough.

      Being in South bris myself this concerns me that they went to these lengths.   Can I ask how hard is it to get to your garage? Like is it a garage at the front of the house close to the street, or you need to enter a fenced yard, and garage is out the back?

      The question is, when you bled the coolant, did you do so with the heater tap fully opened and heater on? If you haven't, you may have an air bubble in the heater core, double check your coolant level and overflow bottle.

      Yeah, but, it's like go and buy a Nissan filter. Nissan didn't make it, it's likely a Ryco etc.   You bought exedy, but "they didn't make" that specific part. Chances are, lots of actual exedy kits are, and have been, running aisin plates for ages.
