hey guys, how do i go about getting more steering angle for my r33 drift car? cheers

im in the middle of doing the same mod to mine, ive started with with just the tie rod spacers, surprised how much ive gained, i had to grind my steering stops heaps to maximise the lock, it comes close to overcentreing..so im thinking of cutting down my steering knuckles/rewelding the pickup point and maybe repositioning the rack forwards.

That depends...

What has it got at the moment?

If it is 100% stock, then there is a few tricks and bits, if you've done some mods, then this could get more technical.

If it's stock, buy a pair of rack-end spacers, and install them. Ask any of the sponsors selling them for someone's before and after pics. I swear by them, best money and time I've spent. Easy U turns in an average residential street, without wheelspin :P

If it is just a drift car, try running a bit of toe-out, as this will effectively increase the steering angle of the inside wheel (one carrying the majority of the force during opposite lock) but sacrifices outer wheel grip to do so. You may notice a tiny bit longer delay in turn-in from a straight-line grip approach, as the outer wheel takes longer to actually point into the corner.

Don't do this on a street car. It WILL kill your tyres, and result in bad road handling, due to the outside wheel having barely any grip.

Beyond this, you may need to look into modifications of the suspension components, the rule here is not to let the tie rods form a straight line (or go beyond!!) with the part of the knuckle they join to. If that occurs, you will not be able to return the wheels, as they will most likely "cam-over" and be stuck into position at full lock = you WILL hit something.

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
