Hey guys,

I went to have a look at a silver r33 series 2 this morning which I found advertised on eBay. (see link)

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/nissan-skyline-r33-...3#ht_911wt_1137

Ebay says 97000, the odometer reflected 103,000 fair enough I guess

I was handed some regency paperwork showing an inspection 1 month prior

THE ODOMETER READING ON THIS PAPERWORK WAS 162,000kms

He couldn't explain the discrepancy, and on closer inspection, scratch marks on the odometer.

So hence, I walked. But tell your friends if they're looking, as this is a c*nt of an act.

Cheers.

Lots of valid reasons why the kilometres don't match up. But no point in speculating. In the end it actually looks pretty tidy in the pics for the current price. A good honest R33 SII still fetches 12-14k. You expect the world for 8?

I don't think a discrepancy in kilometres is sufficient to bash this dude's sale :D

Cryogenic, I'm not out to bash the sale, but there is being honest, and then doing the dodge to jack your price. The car drove well, the car had great suspension & interior, but the car also had another 60,000 on it that they were trying to do the dodge with. Should I also add the scratch marks on the odo numbers?

I was under the impression that the whole reason of the skyline forums were to help other users and educate people on certain things, I think I'm much better saying this than letting someone get jipped.

Also, it's an auction. It'll go to whatever price it goes to. Who said anything about $8k?

Granted, it's shady. I think everyone can agree on that. But nonetheless, i think anyone should look further than just what the dash reads to determine the condition of a car, especially imports.

This is the for sale forum. Are you selling the car here? Well why post this thread here? There are other areas of SAU where you could post this. From the sounds of it, you never got a definitive answer as to why the numbers didn't match. I'd like to give someone the benefit of the doubt before judging anything though. Give the guy a chance to explain himself before black flagging him automatically. Some kids buy cars with no friggin idea. How long had he owned it? Did he import it? Someone probably bought it over with 164k, blew up the engine and replaced it with an engine with 90k. The dude probably bought it in that state. Who knows? Not me. And if you don't for sure, then you should probably reserve your judgement on the issue.

Once again, just because kilometres don't match up, doesn't mean the car is a lemon, or is not worth whatever price someone is WILLING to pay for it. the link you provided shows the current price at 7600 odd. Reserve isn't met, but what is the reserve? Who knows. If the dude sold it for 8k, i'd say it was probably a decent buy, even with 164k on it.

True, and I can completely understand that, and everything that you've mentioned above.

He told me he's had the car for a year, and the regency paperwork was from about 28 days ago. That's why I didn't reserve my judgement.

I didn't want to get in anyone's grill about this, I just thought it was only fair that the general purchasing community knew, hence why I posted it in this thread.

Cheers

Well, after getting that little nugget of information, I have to agree with your judgement ;)

I'll stick my tail between my legs and walk away now ;)
