A Boy's Love For His Rb20

Recommended Posts

  • 2 months later...

So just got back from Le Mans, Goodwood Festival of Speed and Burger RIng. Pumped more than ever to get the underside of my car back in. Still trying to suss best solution to HICAS delete on my new rear cradle and then slap the whole thing in.

Have gone to rather stupid lengths with regards to replacing things that didnt need replacing...but I want to just bash the old girl senseless the next few years like when I first got her with no fear of breaking things and or worn things crying enough.

So, to keep motivation up will be posting some pics....but in the meantime...why I am broke at present

I already have the Sierra about right. From here itws just about little odd end jobs like hydraulic clutch conversion and the endless quest to rid it of rattles

IO dont think people woudl have any idea how to get a Sierra's engine bay this neat! :(

So posting this here as I have the option of removing it now from the car now whilst its off the road.

What are peoples thoughts on value of this ultimate RB20 looking sleeper:

- R32 RB25DE block, crank and head

- CP pistons

- Eagle Rods

- ARP head studs

- std oil and water pumps

- Tomei 256/8.5mm cams and cam gears

- Tomei valve springs

- Plazmaman Inlet Plenum

- 6Boost Manifold and Turbosmart gate

- Genuine Greddy T67-25G

- Xtreme Single plate clutch

- RB20 gearbox (210,000kms)

- ID1000cc injectors

- Tuned AP Engineering RB20 Power Fc inc Z32 AFM

- inc Splitfire Coil Packs

Can include comeplet loom too if folk are thinking S13 conversion or something

So how much so you reckon I would be able to sell the whole show for? Engine, turbo, injectors etc all less than 5,000kms old. Gearbox and clutch is really the only thing that is tired. Still works fine with no noises, doesnt jump out of gear etc but is obviously at its limit and has plenty of kms on it

Graph is off the wastegate with no EBC and quick safe tune

Hey Roy, I have just spent about 3 weeks reading this thread from start to finish whenever I get some spare time. Fantastic build thread dude, was such a good read...Hope you keep us updated. I too am a lover of the good old 20 and I'm now working on getting mine ready for the track, I also got mine bone stock and I've got a garage full of parts waiting to go on and with some money to get it all fitted up and tuned I should have a 300hp track ready r32 by the end of the year :)

White R32s are yummy. There were a few colours that I considered when I got my car sprayed and it basically came down to white or silver. Still not sure I got it right

With a good tune the lil 20s can take some abuse and provide a load of giggles

So got more stuf back from powder coaters, More bushes and bolts and nuts and washers etc and damn close ot having alloy hubs in the front of my car. Such a waste in hindsight to go to the lengths I have but meh...is what it is and will be good that it is so neat when its done

AFTER

post-462-0-86982000-1413978320_thumb.jpg

Had the uprights blasted, zinc coated (in case powder coating cracks over time) and then powder coated in a rather dull but very durable silver

Going for silver and light pastel silver powder coating as I want all light colours so its oiss easy to see tell tale leaks and drips etc.

Had a little porblem with the new ball joints. I am telling me this is typical but not happy so going to get some 42mm shim washers and pack the gap between the arm and the circlip

So 2015 was largely a write off. Started a new job where they work you like a $2 pole dancer and combined with putting myself on a tight budget of $500 a month means things move very slowly :(

But, finally got to a point where the new rear end has been fully refurbished, new shocks rebuilt by Racepace and now just need new springs. Custom tops that will heopfully be mega quiet for a loooong time. Got the new diff, suspension arms, fuel system etc all sorted now.

Problem is I lost a lot of motivation last year when I sold my T67 setup so have now got my new twins and close to getting all the bits I need to get it all bolted up to Kinda surprise.

Here are some pics of the retarded amount of hours I have spent welding, painting, pressuing bushes and bearings in the hope that the car will drive like new when it finally gets back on the road.

So the reason why I binned the old R32 cradle. After years of flogging around tracks it gave up the ghost

gallery_462_50_352465.jpg

So when sorting the BCNR33 GTR rear end I decided to gusset it all up

gallery_462_50_79857.jpg

gallery_462_50_847336.jpg

gallery_462_50_1056535.jpg

So after welding it up I paint stripped the whole cradle, wire brushed it and went a little bling with the silver

So whilst working my way through the suspension re-bushing/bearing everything that could come out I decided to get carried away with painting stuff. Partly so that all teh light colours will show up oil and partly so I could strip any parts I was re-using and inspect for cracks etc. And partly that it will be nice for the car to be clean and neat for the frist 6 months that its back on the road

gallery_462_50_147573.jpg

Got some chrome moly pipe cut and threaded to the length I needed for my new front LCAs and had them coated before painting them

gallery_462_50_1129716.jpg

gallery_462_50_795948.jpg

Going to the R33 GTR rear end meant I had to get a new diff so went for a Nismo GT Pro 1.5 and grabbed a Trust diff cover to give it an extra bit of volume in attempt to keep the rear end consistant over 10-15 lap sessions without going for a diff cooler. Who knows if the extra volume actually makes a difference, a Trust bit is cool all the same.

gallery_462_50_2647889.jpg

And with the rear cradle about to be all bolted back together and into the car I have the new gearbox cross member to allow me to throw the RB25 box in after givign away my RB20 box to a mate with a 260rwkw SR20.
