If you've just bought the car from interstate you will need to take it through an ID Inspections - try and get it looking at standard as possible for that - remove all noticeable obvious modifications.

If ID Inspection finds a problem you will then need to take it through Vehicle Inspections which they will go over your car with a fine tooth comb. Which the following applies:

Front mount will be fine if the previous owner hasnt cut the re-enforcement bar

Apexi turbo will need to go - unless you cant see it at all and looks standard around the turbo area

Forward facing plenum... I have no idea about that one...

Pod filters will be fine if its mounted securely

Power FC will need to go unless it looks standard

Suspension needs to be correct legal ride height and if its coilovers it needs an engineers certificate to go with it.

If it is your car and are moving from QLD to SA then all you need to do is transfer the rego over at the Transport SA branch if the cars in your name and keeping it in your name in SA.

No you won't need to take it to regency for an inspection.

If you are moving to SA from interstate and the car was registered in your name in the other state, then all you need to do is fill out a change of address form at any motor reg office and away you go.

If you bought the car from interstate and it isn't in your name then it will ahve to go to regency and be inspected.

  • 3 weeks later...

i just recently purchased a vehicle from VIC and before it was able to be registered in ADEL, I had to go through regency, not the actual department where they inspect your car after a defect but its just an ID inspection. The main motive is to check that your VIN and engine # etc, matches. But when i was there, a man who just purchased an integra from SYD, with extensive mods had failed 2 times and was told he had to go through the defect area. So if you do need to go through ID inspection, make sure your car is stock as possible. My car was stock (V35) but I failed to past because my rear tint was apparently too dark!.. which i had to remove in the car park and came back 5min later and past.

Here are the steps:

1. Get ID check done at regency (only if the car is registered in another state)

2. Go to motor vehicles (around the corner)

3. Take old plates off your car before you go into the motor vehicles and fill out the hand in plates form (saves you a trip and a waiting line)

4. Pay stamp duty (4% for ever $100 over $3000), registration, admin fees($21), new plates($21) and for the ID check ($think its was $30-$50)

5. Drive your car away

If you car still has registration you need to write a cover letter and fax it to the state stating you still have rego left, attach this letter with the form you receive back from the motor vehicles.

Hope this helps everyone.
