To oil or not to oil -TRUST AIRINX filter

My car has an old style trust airinx filter. Not one of the yellow ones, but the boxy ones with the green element. Just cleaned it today with O2 rush filter cleaner and was wondering if i have to re-oil it or not? I cant seam to find the info anywhere.

If yes, which filter oil do i use? Just the K&N stuff or whatever i can find in Autobarn?

Sorry i know this probably should be in the maintenance forum, but i need an answer quickly as if it does need oil i dont want to be driving to far without it.

Thanks

Rhett

From what i have seen even foam based filters have a very light coating of oil from the factory. So a very light coating should be fine you can use the K&N filter oil the red from it usally fades away if your worried about it. So yah just a mist of k&N filter oil.. Cheers Rob

The only filters i have dealt with that had oil on them from the factory that i know have been trust and HKS ones, i'm sure most foam ones would have a light coating of oil. A light mist of oil after u have given it a good clean wouldnt harm anything, in most cases it would help it catch some micro dirt paticles. As long as its a mist over the foam filter element so you dont even come close to drenching it. My 2 Cents.

Use a filter cleaning kit or with detergent as in filter cleaning kit i mean a brand specific one like K&N have with the oil kit too. Dont use nothing harsh.

there is two threads going at the moment about this, both saying the same thing.

I bought some Finer filter foam filter cleaner from autobarn, it was $20 for 1 litre. Use 100ml at a time so i guess it would last a while, but it just seems to be normal detergent so perhaps just use dishlex or whatever if you want to be really cheap. Just dont let your mum catch you stealing it.

Im running unoiled at the moment but when i can get to autobarn i will oil it again.

Does anyone know how many micron a car filter should be? (as in how small particles it should filter out)
