Sound deadening in spare wheel well, makes big difference to resonance on the highway, more of the stuff coming to put in the door skins and rear quarters very soon, then the big banana will be cosy quiet

Where did you get your sound deadening? Cost? I'll hopefully get a vid up of my exhaust this week

Got it on Wish, took a few weeks to get here but bucketload cheaper....

One sheet big enough to replace the bonnet card and wheel well was $36 delivered, its 10mm thick and compresses to 6mm.

I'll try finding the link to seller and Chuck it up on here for interested parties.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just picked up these Rohana RC10 wheels. 20x9 and 20x10 with about 43 offset I think.

Ended up needing 5mm spacers on the front because the offset wasn't quite right, so chasing up some longer studs now I think. Not much thread left with the spacer and the wheel.

Both ends sit out of the guards about 3mm, so should look perfect when I get some lower spings. (anyone got spare lowered springs??)

Got the shits with stock afm and instability in the nm25 so trialing the z33 r35 unit.

So do you have to (can you) retune the ECU to suit?

Are you saying the Z33 is the same AFM as the R35?

And will the same unit work on the VQ35DE?

Installed the RS-R lowered springs from eBay, plus some new 20x8 Vertini rims which fit properly without dodgy spacers. I won't admit how much time it took me to swap the front springs, but in my defence I had about 1ft on either side of my garage to work with.

Pretty happy with the outcome!

So last weekend I did the lower arm bushes , radius rod bushes, sway bar bushes,  lower ball joints and the AFM . My press groaned on some of the bushes. Those things are in there very very tight. The ball joints are a prick!

Ride improved but it also highlighted just how bad my shocks/springs are. Midday today picked up a set of nearly new Tein GT Wagons and a R33 boot brace to make up a front under body brace.

Fitted the fronts gonna do the rears tomorrow morning, got late for the rattle gun to be going. Took it for a quick spin around the block , holly crap the difference is incredible.

My IT monkey hands are hurting and im cut up but it passes the shoe test.

Rear springs and shocks done, front underbody brace bolted up. Its now a totally different car. Why did I not do this sooner ??. Drivers rear shock was completely buggered. Could squeeze it down between  my hands and it took upwards of 3 min for it to extend.

I set my heights on the bench. Will let it settle for a week and then set again. Just need to buy some C spanners , anyone know where I can buy some in Perth?

Of course all this effort has brought my attention to another clunk. Passenger side tie rod has play. So now need to find a set before I go get new shoes and an alignment.

Suspension sorted now set my sights for go mods:)

I'm long overdue posting an update.. don't even remember what the last thing I posted was lol

Anyway, some stuffs has happened, most important one is that my car no longer pings... Took it to E&H Motors out in Pukekohe and they found that the timing was off, which is what I had suspected. A fair chunk of money later i'm happy that the car is now 100% better.

On a cooler note, I bought a LSD diff which I was gonna chuck into a 4WD stag casing but I derped and forgot about the ABS stub axles.. so now I need to try and find some 3x2 LSD ABS stub axles that I can use... otherwise I might try find some 5x1LSD ABS stub axles and put them in it, but that involves buying the axles as well...

Also got given a spare casing, but I can't use that anyway.

You can see the ABS ring on the stub axle that I need, apparently the open diff one that I have is too short to be used in the LSD unfortuantly.

Also changed out my coolant and changed spark plugs/coil packs to brand new ones.

Other than that nothing cool has happened haha

Looking good! So what offsets work on the 8 in rims? Different front and rear?

    • I think the pic in the first post is another car, and post 7 is OP's car with standard arms and swaybar swaybar swaybar. I can't tell what brand the silver coilovers are, and even if I could I don't know whether the spring rate is OK, if you can find a brand on the shocks and numbers on the springs that might help. Also, if you can measure the ride height from centre of your wheel to the guard that will help with advice too as handling suffers if ride height is too low
    • sadly, pics no work. that car must have spent a lot of time in a cryo bubble
    • In the first photo you posted, the colour of the control arms are the signature colour for Ikeya. Same for the swaybar, signature colour for Whiteline.  I like Hardrace, they also do hardened rubber bushes if your car is mainly a street car.  I like GKTech as well, but they use a lot of rose joints in their stuff so might not be the best choice for everyone.  The system might have been good back in its day, but it's a prehistoric system now. I suspect that most people have removed the HICAS as they want the car to do what they want to do, not what the car wants to do. From what I also understand, it isn't consistent in it's behaviour on track so it's hard to trust the car/know where its absolute limits are for track use.  Having said that, I think the HICAS eliminator kit was the first thing I installed when I bought my car. I don't personally have any experience with the HICAS system on a race track.
    • Thanks for the info. Didn’t know I had aftermarket control arms already? Will talk to my garage. What brand would u recommend if I want to play around with my camber more? I would think my camber is around stock level right now or more negative now due to lowering with coilovers. I will be lower her again 1.5 cm to get some more.    also why does everyone like to remove the hicas system? Is it because most don’t work properly anymore or ppl just don’t like them. Mine is functioning as it should be right now.    thanks for the good info
    • It looks like you've got Ikeya control arms and an aftermarket sway bar, maybe whiteline?  Or am I just going crazy? lol Unfortunately it won't, but what it will do is look really pretty. That's about all unfortunately.  How much neg camber do you currently have? Generally lowing the car dials in quite a bit of neg camber as it is. If you do go down this path, your best bet is get adjustable arms, toe arms (or preferably a good HICAS elimination kit) and traction rods. With all 3 being adjustable, you'll be able to dial out any bump steer that is introduced by playing with the camber settings.
