Help! R34 Rb25 Adjustable Cam Gears

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I want to put adjustable Cam Gears on my R34 GTT as I have Tomei Type B's Cams installed. The VCT (NVCS) is not been used. The Exhaust Side fits on no problems but the Intake side does not. The Intake side can be bolted up to the Cam Disc that sits in front of the Cam Gear but the hole on the Cam Gear that sits in the Cam is too big.

I did a 30 minute search on the forums and have found nothing, I have tried searching everywhere for an adjustable Cam Gear that fits on with no success. There has to be people who have installed Adjustable Cam Gears in their 34's.

Can anyone help me with this? Shed some light on any products or what type of setups they have.

i was under the impression that Rb25 guys didn't do cam gears that much as it doesn't make the difference it does like on the Rb26's?

and if they do, i think they only do one side (exhaust?) and leave the rest - why would you not want your VCT? would that not be more beneficial than cam gears? i think that may have something to do with neo people not changing them perhaps, and you not being able to find anything in search results

in all my years of GTT ownership, cam gears didn't once come up in discussions with my tuner or other people - but then again, i was running standard camshafts, maybes that's why

Hi Guys,

I really appreciate your input and as from checking out many tunes. I am just going to leave the stock cams gears in. I find the VCT pretty much useless, it's only on the Inlet side + you don't see GTR's with a system like this. And for good reason.

How did you conclude that the VCT is useless ( stupid Nissan wasting money?)

Have you done a dyno run with it switched on and then with it disabled and compared the charts?

Sorry dude but you will never beat the low/mid range of the VCT, it's simply impossible.

RB26's didn't come with VCT simply because it was not an option - not for good reason.

Think about why people are using RB25NEO heads on 26 bottom ends, HKS V-Cam, jaycar style VCT controllers setups etc etc

VCT is king. End of story. If it's not working for you then you have underlying issues causing these gains not to be realised.

Hey guys,

Thanks for posting the graphs up. The low to mid range is a big improvement with VCT. I did eventually find a set of cams that will keep the VCT. There from Greddy and cost a fortune but are well worth it :)

    • TCU is enroute, should be here on Monday. Have just paid for a transmission locally, they've got to pull it out of the car and should be with me on Friday. Just getting little bits and pieces I need for wiring. Thinking about using a small bulkhead connector to run the transmission wiring through the tunnel as the trans plug is quite big.  So all going well i should have the box dummy fitted up next weekend and start wiring.
    • sure, just PM me your email....
    • Haha likewise, take my shit box for a spin and maybe you'll end up wanting a R33 shit box again lol...

    • The springs just lets the valve bleed off pressure/oil and it bypasses the feed gallery and heads back to where the pickup feed is On the LS the oil gets the the bearings...eventually  This vid explains the OEM pump well IRT the pressure release valve and how the bypass works The oil pressure light coming on intamitantly could just be a sticky valve, but, why pull something apart and not put something better in  I believe the low oil pressure light comes on somewhere between 5-10 psi Well will stick a gauge in after the installation to see what difference it makes at hot idle and higher RPM, and by high RPM I mean 6300 RPM.....LOL
