Buying A Cefiro With 2Jz,1Jz Or Rb25Det Your Thoughts? Also Lpg In A Turbo.....!help

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, im currently living out of Aus for a few years and would like to pick up a cheap car for daily driving and fun cruising on the weekend.

I have average experience with cars and do alot of reading on specs/stats etc.

I would like to know some pros and cons from users here in regards to buying a 2nd hand cefiro with one of these turbo engines.

Im a big fan of these 3 engines and there is a large supply of cefiros for sale with these engines available in them.

Now obviously it depends how good the work has been done on the car, but for now i would like to be able to narrow my search on them.

It will most likely be personal preference of which engine, but in regards for maintenance etc and less issues of modified engines i have heard the 1jz is quite reliable.

Rb25 would be great, and the 2jz has always made me cream myself as a youngster watching my first mkiv supra fly by......

If anyone has experience in these engines in a conversion point of view, especially in a cefiro could you please let me know.

I would be driving manual. A few of them have had LPG conversions too.....im not too fond of the idea and i have done some googling on LPG tubo cars, but could i get some light shed on the idea of LPG in a turbo car.

The reason for buying a cefiro is because years ago they were a bigger import here and anything such as a skyline, or silvia/s14/180sx are a few thousand $ more than the cefiros that have had some slight work........hence the choice of the A31.

I have drivin in some old soarers and a chaser. Ive never drivin a rb25det. They are all fun to ride in but now that im looking at 1 chasis and have to choose which engine its quite difficult! I enjoy my cars and im not too biased about them. Dont be upset or biased about a nissan running a toyota engine please!! Just give me your thoughts from a tuners POV.

Thanks heaps!

Any help will be much appreciated.

    • in reality the new engine was a swap alot because it was brand new vs 3 years old and the other one needing a refresh after wtac anyway but... the 2.8 is obvious capacity etc and will do current power more easily and add some responsiveness not that that was really lacking  the limiting factor with all this atm is injectors (ID1700s at 4 bar base) and turbo (precision 6780) literally being maxed out at bang on 1000hp as thats what the system was designed to do, so to go more need injectors, turbo and  maybe even intercooler but i know a guy that like his power and will see how this all unfolds  it is a rwd drive on an 050 tyre though and i am just a complete amateur so among other things the ability to drive it becomes a consideration also
    • Not hard. It is a factory option for the car. If you are planning to do the swap yourself and you have to ask if it's hard or not, then it sounds like you will find it quite challenging to do.  Does the budget allow for the purchase of a RB25DET gearbox at the same time? Life will be so much easier if you can swap both the motor and box together, and it's not like your saving yourself any money either, you WILL need the bigger box in future. By doing it now you will save time, money and you won't find yourself broken down at the most inconvenient time in the future.
    • Thanks. That's helpful. Definitely easier to get ones for a Silvia. And this confirms my suspicions that they would work too.
    • Hi. After a 4 long/short years i wanna ask. Just ask cuz i know it would be a ALOT work but. https://3gspares.co.nz/collections/engines/products/nissan-r34-skyline-rb25det-neo-turbo-5mt-complete-engine-motor-package-104-400km-gt-t I found this engine...it looks like it has all the things you need to for the swap. It looks clean and in very good condition How hard would it be to swap instead of RB20DE NEO(factory 5spd manual) I know the gearbox is weak but it should just plug n play for a while no? I have better fuel pump(mine went bad) and brakes are from GTT. Iam just asking around to gather info. Only considering this cuz i know these guys and this engine IMO is completed package for swap. Thanks :)
