My Heater Doesn't Work - But Not What You Think!

Hey guys, just got my new daily on the road (R32 4 Door). But my heater doesn't work. Like, literally doesn't work. I took the heater door servo off and moved the arm by hand to what would be full heat. Nothing. Cold as ice. And yes the heater core is plumbed up.

Potential causes I can think of:

Heater core blocked

Massive air lock

Heater core pipes around the wrong way

I will investigate further tomorrow, but just thought I would see if anyone else has had the same thing, because its rather weird.

Chances are the heater core is gone.

Check the passenger side carpet and see if its wet at all.

Have you done anything that could have caused it?

You said the hoses could be around the wrong way so have you changed them recently to cause this or it just stopped working?

There is no moisture in the car, that I've found.

And yeah, I have just put a new motor in, so the hoses were disconnected/re-connected.

I'm trying to remember if it worked before, but my memory is failing me.

The heater should have been burped of air , engine in heater on full hot to be sure the core was passing without air traps which fry heads

Did you back flush the system ? Should have before new engine ?

The heater mixture solenoid working on the r34 its below the master cyl , fuel filter area not sure on 32's? , yank both hoses off core by turbo dump and try a garden hose with screw type ( cheapo) sprayer , try to put heater core in hot position by hand and run water into it on low / med pressure and expect the other hole to flood out crap or if its blocked nothing will pass , reverse and try the backwards way ? Anything ?

Once done reflush system and refill heater on hot

And fan on low, drain air out of bleeds a few times

After hot and cool cycle , overflow will be sucked in a bit more then normal for a few days then settle full

If you want to flush the whole system you need to use specific hoses , let me know

    • I'm still waiting for the bearings from Jesse Streeter so haven't fitted them yet. King pins don't fit though, if you're thinking about doing it get the king pins now because the new stock seems to be 3x the price. I got one from Kudos and one off ebay from JP 40022-60U05.   If you get them from NZ get him to mark the value down, I got touched for $2k in duty and gst
    • Alright guys, this thread really got to me, so I thought I'd do the best thing I can, and change the mowers oil.   So here is a photo of me draining it. To be totally honest, I see nothing wrong here, and think there's easily another 5 years in this oils life. But, now I've hit my next conundrum, some twit drained the oil, without having bought any new oil... Should I splurge and use olive oil, or will canola oil do?   On a serious note, I'm undecided if I REALLY need to buy 4 stroke mower oil, but some claim normal motor oil doesn't have extra zinc or some shit in it.   Also, mower has started getting blow by, it isn't pumping oil out the breather, but it is pumping out a lot of exhaust gas... Which is then making the mower hunt a lot... I'm think atmospheric vent, with a filter... PS, this is a mower I was given years ago, have had to rebuild the carb, build my own blades for it, fix up valve clearances, and then make it really sing way above any rpm it wants while I punish it in the back easement, so no, I'm not spending anything more than I need to. The thought of buying an air filter is bad enough to me and I'm searching for one I think I had on a catch can...   So while this mower is a cheapo, flogged to death, revived, flogged again, revived, flogged again, and now being turned into a zombie, does any one know if I'll seriously shorten it's life if I use something like Nulon X-Pro 5w-30, or HPR 5 5w-40 instead of spending stupid money to buy SAE30 4 stroke lawn mower oil? (And yes, if I drank alcohol I'd happily pee in the fuel tank instead of putting fuel in it... At this stage I'm siphoning year old 98 fuel from the Subaru each time I need to refill the jerry... )   So... Input?
    • @Kinkstaah So... I took your advice and looked under the bonnet... is this where the rubber strip should be? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
