Buying A R33 Gtst

Hi Guys,

Im currently looking at buying a R33 GTST. Spending around the 8K mark and there are a few out there. A couple of nice 1996 series 2's i like but 1 has 120,000 but no rwc and the other is 180,000 but with rwc. Both look pretty similar with minimal mods.

Just curious what you guys think about R33's with high klm's ?? looking at the car being my semi daily drive and odd track day car.

Any help / opinions much apprciated.

Rule no 1.

The km's mean jack shit. If there are no log books documenting the life of the car from its life in japan till today then you can almost certainly count on the fact that those km's are just there for show.

yea hadouken was thinking that, alot of clusters on ebay with low kms. I probably should go drive both and see which drives best.

And get a mechanic to give you compression test and look over

You can usually tell from the general look and feel of the interior what the 'true' kms would be. Ripped drivers seat, worn steering wheel, front dash, shift boot, any death rattles you here when you drive it, etc...

Remember to also check underneath the car as the rails and other parts that may have had abuse don't lie.

Like Hadouken said, if its got low k's it just for show. We all know these cars are brought to be driven not to be stored like a classic, (except for 1 or 2 exceptions, but not all,) so for a car 15 years + old they cant average 7500km/year. Im 'trying' to sell my 33 and it doesnt have ridiculously low kms like most. My car was a daily driver except for 1 year when I was biking to work then that year it only averaged about 10,000km. High kays scare most people, but I think my car for instance, has proven itself with its reliability and it shows with the "normal" kays its accumlated over the years.

Other things to look for is if it has been looked after with regular servicing and quality products as well as what has already been mentioned.

The other way to look at it, if they (the cars your looking at) have true low k's you would have to wonder what the (motor/trans) internals are like from all the sitting around they have done with no lubrication and minimal start up and running.
