Hey everyone. I've recently purchased my first import, a 95 r33 gtst. Pretty much stock except someone down the line decided to put (yet to confirm) a giken twin plate clutch in it. I have absolutely no need for a clutch like this as I want to enjoy it on the street for now and think about the track later. (if anyone wants this clutch it will be for sale for cheap, obviously I'll check condition when it's out.)

So I'm considering putting in a new exedy HD clutch. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with this clutch?

Does the type of clutch depend on whether I have a push or pull type slave?

And lastly does anyone have any tricks for the getting the top bell housing bolts out? I've heard to just flex the engine on its mounts and use a million extensions?? Is there a less backyard way?

Why not just keep the twin? Guaranteed you will want power, and then at least you have a clutch that will hold it.

If you are concerned about not being able to drive the twin, then you just need more exposure. You will get used to it.

Even if you ride it like a bitch, you can replace it when it gives up.

Hadouken - yeah I do want more power but I'm only aiming for 260rwkw. And this clutch doesn't ride at all. I drove it for 2 weeks and still hate coming to red lights and hills. I'm definitely gonna change it.

All the questions have been asked and answered many times which is why your thread isn't getting much of a response.

I would go for an NPC organic single but go to the right section and search/read there and you can make up your own mind regarding what will suit you.

I would take that twin out asap, its not for street use and its probably starting to stuff up your gearbox/driveline already.. i know my box feels/sounds a bit loosened up by the old 5puck that was in there for a few weeks only...

i have an exedy heavy duty, it will be good enough for 260kw, mines held 320kw, but maybe as well get the full face organic from NPC that holds 330kw

Yeah get rid of it. NPC or Exedy heavy duty. But if your going to pump out some power, go for the highest rated single plate clutch that retains drive ability.

My Missus' Chaser has a twin plate OS Giken clutch in it. I hate the damn thing in traffic and she struggles at the best of times with it. I keep telling her to change it as it has now destroyed the diff bushes and is killing the diff.

I tried an Exedy cushioned button and it just melted when i tried to launch..... Clutches may last for a bit above their recommended power level but 1500kms later and mine was rooted!

It has held so far 2000kms and i think would last a long time as long as the clutch is out when the power goes down, but i must admit i did accidently not let the clutch out completely once or twice and i thought it was all over cause i could smell the burning

pretty bad for bout 5minutes and the pressure in the pedal kind of half went, so i will be getting a NPC 330kw clutch soon,

When you undo the gearbox mounts the weight of the box tilts it back... Just be careful not to crush anything or hit the fan etc.... Couple of extensions and your good to go.... If you have the breather bracket just remember which side it came off.

as above mate, NPC, the pedal is as light as stock too!

no need to change to larger slaves or stronger pivots, I was skeptical too, but was converted!

as for the top bolts,

use a jack, undo the gearbox mount bolts

lower on jack

then jack up the front of the motor so it stays at that level with the box off (helps getting it on too)

2x extensions 1x uni-joint should do the trick

    • No. Not true for any non-GTR R32. I think even the GTS4 has the GTSt knuckles with eye type lower shock mounts (as opposed to GTR fork lower shock mounts). The only R chassis in which something like the quote claim is true is the R34, on which the turbos have the fork type and the NAs have the eye type. **Edit: Actually I reserve the right to be wrong about the above statement. It might also be true on R33s. My memory on those shitboxen has faded too much.
    • It's a scam. It has all the telltale signs: - The "business" doesn't have a physical address or really any kind of information listed - It's using a generic online store website template - The prices are ridiculously reduced. To good to be true cheap - Everything is in stock and can be ordered in any possible combination   I've seen a few of these for other products as well. Things like sunglasses for example. I'd say stay away from it! And maybe reach out to the real theskylineshed and let them know this exists. I doubt there is much they can do about it, but still.   I don't know if they would actually take your money if you ordered something. Or whether it is just for collecting credit card details to scam otherwise. I'm not game or stupid enough to try it.
