E85 In Wodonga

So we pulled off the highway on the way through Wodonga the other day and low and behold...a United servo...the only one in Wodonga this guy tells me..it looked fairly new too...

So I question him as to why they didnt install an e85 pump, and i get the answer "not enough customers yadda yadda.."

Now with Winton raceway only an hour away, Its on the way to Wakefield as well and with people on ethanol wanting to be able to drive to these places or to Sydney without swapping fuel mid trip surely its got to be worthwhile you would think...My r33 made it to Wodonga easy on about 3/4 tank of e85..I imagine you could get there from Sydney on a tank, even carrying one jerry is better than 5 which is what we did to get to Goulburn and even then I had to switch to petrol..

It is big servo with plenty of pumps I cant see why they couldn't afford one pump on e85 and although it may not be pumping 24/7 it would definately get its rush periods where I would think where they could cash in..

So I dunno maybe its a little premature cause I don't know how many of the other car clubs are on the sweet juice as well..Plus there is still loads of skeptics here.. But does anyone think it may be worthwhile we gather up all the people that are interested and maybe trying to encourage them to look into stock it and open up the gateway for interstate E85 travel...

They are right really.

E85 wouldn't count for 1% of the sales there if you look at it over the course of a month in terms of volume and also the logistics to get it there if there isn't another near by - which is probably more the point from a distro network point of view. They'd have to fill a tanker here or in Syd and send it down for one servo.

Also if it's off the highway that makes it even less unlikely especially given everyone already jerry cans for a decent price here in Melb. I wouldn't drive an hour north, and then an hour south just to get fuel for Winton - I'd BYO :)

By all means try but i reckon you'd be pushing up a hill at this point in time. 18months it might be different like all things.

It was about 500mtrs from the freeway....right near an exit..

Surely there is a whole lot of hoons that live around Albury Wodonga area that would love it too..

I guess not alot of VIC go to Wakie and not alot of NSW go to Winton , not regularly enough to make it viable anyway..

I think as you say though the logistics of getting there is where it would fall apart..

If there was a servo semi-near that had it (couple hundred KMs) then it would be viable for them to do it given the tanker is only going up the road.

But sending much further out is unlikely unless there were 2-3 servos in the area. Not sure Wodonga has the population to support it.

I mean I'm sure there are a few workshops up there who would like to have it as they are probably shipping it in already anyway

    • Hello from Germany,   i build my RB25DET Series 2 -> Target 600hp i have now ordered solid lifters from Tomei for the cylinder head and will replace the original hydraulic lifters. Which cams can you recommend ? It is only a street car.... Maybe i order a Garrett GTW38 or something like that.   and what is with the VCT ? is it blocked with the solid lifters ?   Attention is a RB25DET with solid lifters!   Thank you for your help
    • Diff arrived from Japan last week.  Nismo gt pro 1.5way for gtr. Still deciding whether to use 4.11 or 3.9 gears before installing.  Spent some time yesterday going over what's needed to finish engine bay fuel lines. Got a list so will order soon. Played with radiator placement and decided on stock location with bottom spaced a bit for a small amount of angle. So ordered standard mounts and rubbers. Reason for this is the 180sx was a pain to work on any of the coolers and was also going to take longer to fabricate mounts. Today made a bracket to mount the dbw throttle pedal. Factory location wasn't great to work with the pedal box. Luckily there's a rail that pedal box mounts too so did some measuring, drew up a design and got stuck in.  It's made of 3mm aluminium and has a lot of strength just need some bolts, washers and nuts to finish up.   If I get time tomorrow I'll pull the front bar and lights to start intercooler mounting, it will be flipped under the rad support which will require some trimming.
