Accumsump - Important Question Rb26 - Who Is Actually Running One?!

Hi Guys

As part of my current build I will be running a Tomei oil pump, ACL bearings (with an extra thou clearance) and sump extension (8L capacity). Unsure of oil weight as yet...

I am interested to know what oil pressure you're reading at say idle, 3k, 6k and 7.5k RPM?

Also, those doing track work what level of pressure drops are you getting?

I am trying to figure out which EPC valve to run with the Accusump....I found this doc from Canton, see link below:

But just want to confirm the 35-40 psi valve is going to be the correct one??

Really unsure at which level of oil pressure (psi) I want the Accusump to open...35-40 psi Or 55-60 psi??

From what a few people and I worked out, you won't need the EPC valve.

What you'll want;

Accusump with the electric solenoid valve which is switched on with the ignition on (with an override off switch as well).

Some type of ball valve between the solenoid valve and the engine - to regulate flow

Basically the accusump is open to the engine full time, it discharges and charges as needed, the ball valve is to regulate how much oil is fed to and from the accusump. People found the accusump with no ball valve was dumping way too much oil too quickly when a drop in pressure was found and when the accusump was re-filling, the pump was struggling to feed to accusump and the enigne.

This was worked out using oil pressure vs RPM data logging. I'll be doing the same once i'm ready.

Before the accusump the amount of surge the engine saw was stupid (factory sump, was overfilled slightly i believe) and surged quite badly around some corners. Once the accusump was set up like above there have been no surge issues that i'm aware of.

The car i'm referring to is Simon's S14.

Before first start up the oil is dumped from the accusump into the cold engine for pre start lubrication. This is normal.

When the engine is running the accusump is charging and discharging as oil pressure rises and falls. Oil doesnt just sit in the accusump doing nothing. So the oil doesnt get a chance to sit in the accusump long enough to cool down.

Yeah thats it. Anyone of those accusumps, the electric solenoid valve and that ball valve will do to reduce flow.

This is mine installed in the boot of my R31 under the parcel shelf.

Did you guys tee the feed into your oil cooler lines with a one way valve? Or connect the accumulator directly to an oil gallery?

I'll be doing this yes. Earls one way -10 check valve. The one way valve that Canton sells restricts too much flow.

But post oil cooler, just before the inlet into the engine.

theres no need to worry about cold oil dumping into engine.. i can assure you that during engine operation that hot oil makes its way back to the accumulator.

mine has been running mint. used just the manual ball valve mounted it behind drivers seat with braided line running through the cabin, however on the new shell i now have mounted in engine bay and using an elec solenoid.

Just a side question, sorry to move off topic.

Running an external oil pump with a long line between pump and feed to engine. Always get a lot of rattle on startup so I crank the engine over without ignition first to build pressure.

Not worried about anti surge but very keen to use the accusump as pre start lube.

How would you use one of these with an external pump picking up oil from external sump pickup and fed direct into oil pump housing?

That is exactly what I'm looking for. My engine never rattles once I crank it over for a little bit, even if I just see 10psi before starting.

@DCIEVE - Not sure what you mean, I don't run a sandwich plate between the block and the filter. No oil cooler. As for the 1 way valve, little worried it will restrict flow. If I tee it into main gallery with the electric valve, will this not work as well? (think I'm missing something) Cheers.
