Auto R33 Key Stuck In Ignition

Hi guys,

My brother's automatic R33 Skyline has its key stuck in the ignition. We tried everything, put it in Park, Neutral and then back to Park etc but the key is still stuck and won't budge. What's going on? Any ideas? I heard people with R32's say there's some orange button or something - I don't think the R33 has a relase button? Any help?

This is a common problem after doing a manual conversion. There is an interlock on the key barrel that prevents you from removing the key unless it is in park.
The problem could be your gear selection sensor. Do you have lights on the dash to indicate what gear is selected? Is it showing that Park is selected when you move the lever to Park?

If you can't find a problem with the gear selection, remove the cowling around the column/barrel and you should find a couple pairs of wires plugged into the side of the barrel. Try unplugging the interlock or applying 12volts to it (try reversing the polarity too). You should be able to get it to release and then you could just leave it unplugged.

Fixed it. Turned out the ignition interlock sensor was disconnected between the transmission box and the key barrel lock thing. Cheers Luke!
