Gtst - The Never Ending Build

Recommended Posts

After following many build threads, thought I may put up my own so I can keep track of how far I go and also to perhaps have advice and suggestions from other enthusiasts along the way.

r33 gtst 1996 series 2, bought it mainly stock ages ago...

came with a PFC, exhaust and pod, I thought it was awesome at the time.

then the mod bug bit me, and I constantly searched for info and parts.

- did a bilstein upright and king spring suspension whiteline sways and bushes.

- I found a HKS2835 ProS turbo new for sale cheap, and the turbo change started, added PFC boost control, new stainless front pipe ceramic wrapped, ceramic coated the exhaust housing, sard 500cc injectors, arc airbox, z32 afm, found a RIPS intake manifold and ARC type catch can with braided lines. tomei brake stopper, HKS hard intake pipe

- changed the rb25 cam covers to rb26 ones and fitted a 26 cam belt cover and baking plate later on

- I then found I liked carbon fibre, added craft square mirrors (which I love), CF wing blade, CF eyelids, CF diffuser, CF wing end plates, CF garage defend cooling panel, CF fuse box cover

and it continued on...

Ive done some work on the brakes, braided lines, A1RM pads, motul rbf fluid, cut off the stone guards on the front brakes with RDA slotted rotors, no brakes fade whatsoever on last track day at Mallala, which is a definite improvement from other trackdays where I had brake fade and boiling fluid, cutting the stone guards off did have a good impact.

I replaced most of the engine bay bolts with new stainless ones, supplied by a forum member who was putting together bolt kits for the r33 to sell online, since I helped him out with sizing and number of bolts he was nice enough to give me the set for free, totally happy with that...

Replace the std series 2 front lip that was on there with a new fibreglass one, fitted it up and prepped the front bar got a local panel beater to spray and clear coat it for me, along with that I sanded back my carbon fibre foglight surrounds and got them clear coated at the same time...

At one stage I did have graphics all over the r33, had them on there for about 2years, Im always thinking ideas to put some graphics on it in the future too, Im not too worried about whats in or whats popular, just with my graphic design past I cant help myself but want to do something that makes me enjoy looking at it...

And Matt (MBS206) was cool enough to grab some vids of me warming up tyres before hillclimbs...
and he was also cool enough to talk me into dropping second gear, meh I had a trailer to get back to NSW with so why not...

Nice build! Definitely giving me some inspiration on where to go with mine. Quick question, I've been looking all over for a cooling plate like that for the s2 but no one seems to make them, is that a custom one?

the cooling panel I found is an authentic Garage Defend CF cooling panel, all the others are copies of this brand, I love finding rare japanese parts...

I had no problems, it doesnt fit as perfectly flush around the headlights as it does on a s1, but its hardly noticeable. there are none designed specifically for a s2 because garage defend only ever made it for gtr, gtsts arnt really rated in japan

    • Nice work on the shroud/ducting.
    • Hi and best of luck with your car. Its a bit hard to tell how low the car is all round from that pic or if its been lowered or not. 90mm is a bit low on the front apron but it depends on the shocks & springs condition & whether or not its been lowered. Going to 19” wheels will give you 15-20mm depending on rubber but you might need new shocks. Mine -2005 are weeping fluid slightly but have lasted 19years!!. So if yours are original they need replacing anyway if they havent been touched before.
    • Hi everyone, Recently got handed down a 2004 Skyline 350GT Coupe. I would like to change the wheels as the previous owner installed some weird ones. The current ones are 215/45ZR18, unsure of the offset, and sit pretty deep in. Would like to increase the ground clearance slightly as well as I need to get it roadworthy standard, currently sitting at 90mm. Was thinking that maybe I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone by getting new wheels.  Pictures of current wheels: https://imgur.com/bg1QMIu Any recommendations for the types of wheels I should be on the lookout for? Like the maximum and minimum offset, sidewall height, width, etc.  Sorry in advance if I'm noob, I do not know much about cars other than how to change the oil, a blown tyre and brakepads....
    • Hey MinKer, Where abouts did you get that table from ?
    • Most likely your engine is toast, but also the R32 GTR has different ratios than the GTS4. In 5th it's basically the same, it's mostly 1st through 3rd that change. Stop trying to do WOT pulls before you make the engine entirely unsalvageable. Do a leakdown test and/or borescope the cylinders first. And a boost leak can overspeed a turbo. Make sure the turbo actually functions as intended.
