R34 Sports Sedan Build

Also just a small update on the engine side of things. A neo head popped up on facebook the other week. Was built by a mate Lewis Engines so had a chat to him and ended up snapping it up so will now just need to save up some more $$$ to get the bottom end built to suit. So plan is spool rods, CP pistons, ARP bits scattered through out and will possibly look at going to maybe something GTX3582 i think but will look into that possibly next year. Just want to get the front end finished and actually get some track time!!!

Nah the cams arent vct compatible as the cams were specd before they made vct cams. But the head can still support vct if i swap cams. But after talking to darren he said he has seen the VCT gear die in dedicated track setups with high load/rpm and he reckons that im going to gain more from dialing in the cam to my rev range than i will running the vct. I would have rather keep vct but im gonna roll with his reccomendations

Yeah i have found a similar build in the dyno thread of 480kw with a semi built neo head, nitto rods, Cp pistons etc.. so my plan is spool rods, CP pistons and probs 9.5:1 with E85 and maybe 24psi of boost so i would love to see 450 and anything over should be a nice bonus

Well my new radiator rocked up today..

Lots of cutting to do but the core is the perfect size!

So plan is to lay it flat basically near the cam gears and duct it out the bonnet. So we will focus on the front bar over the weekend and try get it glassed and maybe shaped.

Have got it all glassed and knocked off some of the high points already. Kinda unsure about how i am going to go with making flanges to mate it to the existing panel work but im sure i will work it out. I think i will endup running it 10mm over the existing guards etc and just having some dzus fastners. But hey here it is in its current state..

Nothing amazingly brilliant but i can say its all been done in the back yard!! Im sure it will get better over time but im happy for now!

Well life has thrown me a pretty big curveball in the past couple of months, my fiance has secured a job in Roxby Downs so about 600km from adelaide so we have had the past month of packing up our gear and moving our life upto Roxby, so nothing has progressed on the car but the plans for it have also changed.. its now going to endup tube chassis. Im going to be working in the mines so im on a 2 weeks on 1 week off roster so im now going to have alot more time to actually be able to tinker with the car and no real time restraints. So i dont think the car will see the track in possibly another 2-3 years but were now going to be making all our own rear suspension, going to a double wishbone rear end and changing the front suspension too. So from now on hopefully im going to be able to start bringing you more of this kinda goodness with our own custom hubs and arms etc..

So it was the last day of my week off so not much will be happening for the next fortnight.

But i did manage to start making the duct from the radiator to the bonnet. I made a timber template of the shape i wanted then if you trace it onto the ally sheet and give yourself 15mm overhang than you can clamp the mdf and ally together and dolly over the edges. This gives you a nice edge to either weld or screw to but it also stiffens up the whole panel as it is no longer a flat sheet. This was a neat little trick i saw on facebook on another build thread and it worked surprisingly well for me so thought i would share it.

I have also made the radiator expansion tank, because the radiator is so low and flat everything sits higher than it so this should hopefully help with bleeding the coolong system off as the turbo coolant drain will 'T' into this hose aswell.
20170523_180501.jpeg20170523_180512.jpeg

I have also dropped the engine 15mm and pushed it back 10mm. So the engine/gearbox are now solid mounted so that should be interesting the forst time it starts up! 20170521_194921.jpeg20170521_194928.jpeg20170521_194949.jpeg

Now with all the engine moving, the front end redesign etc the IC pipework still fits... grabbed it all off the shelf to see where i might need to start cutting and fabbing up new elbows etc and it just slid straight on....
20170523_180524.jpeg20170523_180531.jpeg

I have also dummied up the dry sump pump mount but i need to either find someone that i can get to CNC me something that isnt going to cost a fortune or im just going to wait untill i can buy a mill and make something myself!
20170523_180518.jpeg20170523_180544.jpeg

I also mounted the new Peterson 400 series oil filter
20170523_180331.jpeg

Now i have 2 weeks on and i cant see much happening but i will be ordering more parts!! So untill then shoot me messages asking what ever you guys might want to know and sorry that the posts are sometimes few and fat between!!

So just at the end of my week off again and didnt get as much done as i would have liked but oh well you get that some times.

I have added the oil cooler to the passenger side of the radiator and finalised the duct work that will meet up with the bonnet.
20170607_141646.jpeg20170607_141657.jpeg20170607_141704.jpeg
20170613_185605.jpeg20170613_185611.jpeg

I have also started to make up my wing mounts. Initially out of some MDF and have since replicated them to ally
20170607_141620.jpeg20170607_141632.jpeg

Its a big wing!!
20170608_182908.jpeg20170608_182930.jpeg

I also wasnt too happy with how stable it was so i have made a section that comes out the tail lights that will add some vertical loading strength
20170609_121841.jpeg20170613_185716.jpeg

Also my order from Aeroflow rocked up so started on making lines for the turbo and still need to do my oil lines
20170613_185543.jpeg20170613_185555.jpeg20170613_185658.jpeg

I managed to clean up a heap of the random coolant lines that normally sit under the plenum with a welsch plug in the T-stat housing and then just an AN6 to 3/4 NPT fitting in the back for the turbo coolant drain
20170613_185624.jpeg

So untill next time have fun everyone!!

Yep, I have no criticism either. It looks like your doing an awesome job on this thing.
If you really must have criticism you mis-spelled "come on you guys" above in the quote. That's all I could find! :D

Seriously though, keep it up, you're doing a bloody awesome job. Can't wait to see more!
