Track Day Requirements

Just wondering if a visible tow hook/sticker also a requirement for our days?

It's prefered. For circuit racing it's mandated, for sprint days the rules are relaxed. If it's not marked it take longer to recover the car.

If you don't have a properly accessible tow hook, especially on the front of your car, then you accept your front bar might be damaged if you do need to be towed off the track. The recovery guys are not going to wait for you to take your front bar off. Stickers cost $2. Put a tow strap connected to your factory chassis tow point in the front and then cut a neat incision through the front bar. Modern cars have the tow point already mounted through the front bar, just pop off the front cover plate and screw in a tow loop for the day.

There is a link on the forums to a fire extinguisher mounting bracket made by evok3d. I bought one and all fitted well in a couple of minutes.

Having done Calder Park yesterday this is a 'note to self' for scrutineering next time:

  • Fire extinguisher needs to have a date (mine didn't?! must have been a Bunnings special)
  • That date needs to be less 3 years old
  • They also check the expiration date on the harness if you have one

Does anyone know what the go is with the age of the helmet? The guy looked at mine and passed it but I don't think there's a date on it and it's positively ancient...

Also I'm pretty sure there's a date somewhere on the Sparco fixed back, does that need to be valid for club level events?

They were looking at the helmet sticker (see page1 of the thread) and whether the helmet was beaten up/cracked/frayed chin strap etc.

As for harness, shakes head at track car rules applied to street cars on a track - so I can use a +25yr old OEM 3pt lap sash and pass but the 6pt harness has expired by a month :-)

    • Yeah the Drift R wheels look awesome. They are pitted though, wonder if I can fix that somehow.
    • I picked up my diff today. Both their shop manager and machinist wanted to have a chat prior to me leaving. Conversation started with "Where did you buy these garbage parts? What's the name of the company?" They actually went on Speedtek's website during our conversation and made what I think is the best gear head joke I've ever heard after seeing they make straight cut gears. "They've probably only gotten away with selling straight cut gears as they'll make noise whether they're properly machined or not. People are none the wiser" The humor made the 2500$ in the hole I'm in after this whole experience a little better lol. They also pointed out that not only did they find identical issues on both ring and pinions that Speedtek had sent, but that by eye you can see the pinion teeth do not have the same profile from one end to the other.  They went on about this being the worst diff job they've ever done and how it was a colossal waist of time. Luckily after mentioning how I purchased another diff to learn how to assemble them, they were nice enough to give me a crash course on diff assembly on another diff they were currently doing. I like to tell myself they did this to be nice but deep down, I know it's to be extra certain they'll never see me there again lol.  Speedtek was pushing for a store credit but I'll never feel confident purchasing from them again due to their third world machining techniques and QC. I just asked for a full monetary refund.  I'll pop the diff back in this Friday and take it for a spin if the streets are clear of snow.
    • Hey any chance you still have this for sale or know someone that could help me out with tuning my stagea?
    • Haha, yeah parts will become much more expensive than the car in no time. Decent list of mods and I haven't seen a set of ROH Drift R wheels in a long time! They look great too. Helluva project, I'm jealous.
    • Thanks so much for the wiring diagram, that'll come in handy for sure!! Yeah looks good from a distance, and for a drift car it's better than what I expected, except for the rail condition, I expected that. Bit of bog here and there in the panels but not too bad, we've nicknamed it Bogzilla. I'll make a new thread after the weekend to give an update, hopefully we can get it running this weekend.
