Mind blown... Just went to the bottle-o and they had 6packs of beer in 135ml, 250ml, 375ml and 500ml. The small packs looked like they are for children. I'll get photos next time I go there.

We're planning to head over next year for 3-4 weeks. How did you find the language barrier?

Essentially there is none.  You can almost always find someone who speaks English.  If it is a bit hit and miss you will absolutely make their day if you compliment them on it.

depends where you are going... when i first moved there i only spoke the basics and being in a town of under 10,000 most things were in japanese and i fumbled my way through it. in the cities most things are in english too. As said below they do speak a bit of english and they do thrive on being complimented on it. some ppl are shy and pretend they cant speak english too. nowadays i speak and read enough to get by with most things

Ebino Plateau - We werent aloud to walk in the direction of the hills shown in the first pic due to the amount of gas venting out so had walked towards peaks in the opposite direction. The forest was very eerie...i kept expecting to stumble across a dead body
