Buying a GTR, and I need your help!

Hey guys, I've been looking for a clean BNR32/BCNR33 for a while now. I've mostly looked on carsales and it left me with a few questions, hopefully you guys would know the answers,

  • The price range of the cars? How much do they go for these days? Didn't make sense to me how a V-Spec33 would be cheaper than a normal BCNR on carsales...
  • Importing? Costs vs benefits?
  • What should I look out for when buying a GTR? Never bought a car this age before.
  • For the long time owners, reliability issues?

Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to your replies.

Hi........ I don't have time at the moment to answer all your questions but this car seems to be a pretty good indicator of where the market is at.

http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=OAG-AD-13728478&Cr=9

Please note I have NO VESTED INTEREST in this car but like the basic original presentation of the car.

That said, the N1 add ons are desired by many but not me.

18 months ago a similar car would have been $25K but the facts are these cars have zoomed up in value.

To import, compliance and register a grade 3.5/B car your looking at around $30-$35k.

This car is slightly better than that and you can see and drive it.

Anyway, this gives you a starting point.

Cheers,

Bob.

check..
rust under the boot & around strut towers (under the hood)
do a leak down test
compression test 145psi or mor is ok
drive behind it and see if it blows smoke on WOT

spend the extra and get it inspected by a mechanic (no one young)

I've got nearly 0 experience in mechanical stuff (changing perishables and coilovers in my c63 is the furthest i've gone)

I'm located in VIC but seeing the majority of the cars are located in NSW, any of you know good mechanics/workshops I could call to do all the inspections and testing?

Best when you find a car, let us know what area it's in, and we can recommend a shop near there.

Most reassuring thing I've heard today, thanks for telling me
