hey is there any way of telling if a coilpack is a series 1 or series 2 just by looking at it while its off the car. I know they are different and the s2 have an inbuilt ignitor in them and i would have thought they would have had an extra pin or something but they dont so if i seen a photo of one i want to know if there is a way to tell if its a s1 or s2 just by its looks, there must be something cos the plugs dont fit eachother

if i go new would i be best going spitfire or audi r8 coilpacks like i saw on a gtr on some site, looked nice and worked out cheaper, but obviously wiring loom needs to be modified, and does anyone know if the audi r8 coilpacks would work on a s2 gtst or just a gtr

ok i have a question, i just tested the resistance on my coilpacks, now i have a series2 so im not sure if its supposed to be different but i read that i should get between 0.6 and 0.9 ohms and im getting 1.66 kilo ohms, but i saw a guy testing his on youtube and he was getting similar results, so does anyone know if the series 2 are supposed to have a very high kilo ohms resistance instead of a small ohms like a series1 has

    • I've never seen this on a factory built RB26 have the screws come out, or gears break for that fact. Only once someone has touched the motor have I heard / seen it.   I've seen a few factory built Rb25's shatter gears but we talking high mileage extreme beating at drift track, constant limiter for a full season.  Well outside what it was built for.
    • Over the moon in fact.  Engine is coming out to put on a new enlarged sump. I planned on putting on either a new pump(Tomei / Nitto) or billet gears.   But a bit of waste of time if the crank has narrow collar.   Things spiral quickly, if crank is out, new bearings ... maybe new rods and pistons ... wait just rebuild the engine... oh but I should get an N1 block  .... 40k later  .... haha.
    • I think he's just happy that the crank doesn't have to come out of the engine in order to have a good (read reliable) oil pump.
    • Doesn't really do any good, especially without billet gears. The oem pump is crap. If it doesn't break, the screws holding the backing plate will come loose.
    • Has the VCT bulge on the intake(Actually, you can see the VCT solenoid on the intake side, so looks like an RB25, but thats not a RB26 intake for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if its a rb25 that someone has just 'slapped' on a turbo on the factory ecu. If its running like a dog, then the dead giveaway is the intake.. missing the AFM.
