Evo/GTR Brembos on to other things

Recommended Posts

I bought and used Alpha Omega for track days.  I'm really happy with them - stock master cylinder too.

They pull up so well I have to use travel sick tablets now while on the track !!

The design is so strong, no way they break.  I did all the research into BBK etc other brands but have heard of evo track guys going back to their stock brakes after BBK upgrades

they were not happy with their BBK upgrade over the stock evo brakes !! so they sold them and went back to standard

Is this for your S13? I would just personally go R33/34 GT-R Brembos all round and call it a day.. just good pads, good ducting and of course good rotors!

I'm running r33 brembo setup on the sil80 with project mu pads & rotors and works well, is consistent after big stops coming into turn 3 at Queensland raceway and they have performed well at smaller tracks and gil climbs. A mate has the AO evo setup and can only run 18inch wheels where I'm using r33 gtr wheels still.

If you upgrade to a bm57 master cylinder get an abs version and drill and tap the 3rd port out much cheaper than buying a non abs version.

Yep for the Sil, I already have a BM50 and just a line split and it's never leaked or caused issues. Jury is out on whether 57 is even required. I don't need my brakes to be ultra sensitive as I heel toe and like a progressive pedal.

If I recall correctly, rear Brembo's don't bolt on directly? But I have read so much shit and can't remember now.

I was looking at Evo up front as I could grab some calipers, adapters, pads and rotors for $600 - just the 320mm rotors. They seem to be consistently cheaper than GT-R Brembos and look to be a better caliper with a bigger pad area.

I'm too caught up in the engine build at the moment anyway.

Do GT-R rears go straight on? Would be nice to have a direct bolt on option, no adapters etc.

If you don't need the handbrake assemble then the rear calipers bolt up easy.

Front Brembo wise, you can find 350Z ones cheaper than GT-R ones but you will need to run 350Z rotors as the offset is different. Calipers are identical (besides the offset), pads are too (DB1520 or IN1520 in Intima). Just need to drill the hubs out to 14mm and use R34 GT-t caliper bolts as the 350Z ones are too long.

the r32/33 brembo bolt straight up , just need shorter bolts for the fronts.  i've read a certain rear subaru brembo caliper bolts up on the rear. Another option is 324mm rotor with your current calipers using a good quality rotor & pad combo. It may be easier for you to buy a bbk and test different pads.

Need to use a washer to space it out a little.

Better off with just GTS-t twin pot rears, less dicking around and cheaper.

    • Congratulations on your find  Did you mean it has 6k miles or was that a typo? Firstly, keep in mind some movement of the shifter is normal...it is a long rod hanging out of a box bolted to the engine. Having said that there are 2 next places to look: 1. Transmission and engine mounts. If these are worn or broken the shifter will move around more. They are reasonably easy to source and replace on a hoist, and possible but uncomfortable to replace car stands 2. On the bottom of the shifter there is a nylon cup that sits over shifter's ball end. If this is worn or broken the shifter will move around more than it should (but will still shift OK). That is a cheap part and requires removal of centre console, rubber shifter hole covers and a circlip in the gearbox shifter hole to remove the shifter. Re maintenance, as with any new import you should change all the fluids including transmission when you get it; never trust the seller and previous owners to have done the right thing. I am pretty sure R34 GTT is the same as earlier big box transmissions, so use any good quality GL4 75w90 trans fluid if it is shifting well (if it is hard to shift due to synchro wear, redline shockproof lightweight will keep it alive a bit longer before rebuild is required)
    • Well considering I have the exact same problem with that as the original one I don't think that the ignitor is the problem. I would imagine that this being such an uncommon problem the possibility of getting a new ignitor that is bad in the same way as the old one has to be very slim. I'll definitely pull everything apart this weekend and check the turbo out. Got quite a bit of things to check out Saturday like fuel pressure and the pcv so I'll report back once I do that.  Thanks everyone for all the replies this is all really helpful
    • Rb's have issues with bottom end starvation, not head starvation. Which either way, you probably wouldn't ever see on a dyno. Strange... What's pump gas for you? Octane rating?
