If it doesn't do top gear limiter burnouts don't buy it.

Don't buy an auto and plan to convert it to Manual. I really hope you are going to buy a turbo one. Otherwise abort plan

Look underneath the car, inside the boot, look for signs of repair. Also look for rust areas/bubbles, check condition of the interior for mismatched stuff (e.g. worn panels and a new-looking steering wheel). All the basic stuff really.

Make sure the car drives correctly and try to drive as many as possible.

Service history and accident history are my first questions.

The owner should have some form if log book or receipts, service receipts should have the cars rego n them.

Accident history, Revs check costs $36, well reported history anyway, plus lots of other stuff, well worth the small outlay.

Then look for accident damage that wasn't reported, overspray, wrinkled panels, radiator support, inner boot well.

Then what modifications that may have been done, were they good quality parts, or cheap stuff.

Hows the interior "smell", what are the front carpets like, a leaky heater core can be a PITA, plus any seal leaks are also generally a PITA.

Do all the electrics work.

Whats the oil, coolant and brake fluid look like.

How does it handle on a test drive, does it have steering wheel shake, does it pull to one side, does it brake straight.

As for automatics, how does it shift, nice and smooth or rough, autos need more attention when it comes to servicing.

Grab the wheels at the top and sides and shake the bejebus out of them, do they clunk, is there alot of play.

Hows underneath the car, are the rails damaged.

Remember though, the R34's are getting old, you can find cheap beaten ones, they will usually end up costing alot to fix up when they break, you will pay top dollar for a clean old girl, most would have had a hard time though, ensure you have a "slush fund" for when things go bang.

Etc. Etc.

Happy hunting
