Jeff R32 Build

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Thought i would start a build thread with my car.

Long story short, bought my car off a friend of mine after finding in Japan 3 years ago. It was built as a track car by JUN. After getting registered it had run a bearing after having all the oil trapped in the head.

Car came with the following:

Hks 256 cams

720cc injectors

Z32 AFMs

Tomei manifold

Hks2530

ATS carbon twin plate

R33 GTR gearbox

Cusco 1 way front and Cusco 2 way rear lsd

Ohlins race suspension with adjustable rebound

6pot endless 360mm front brakes

4pot ap racing 340mm rear brakes

Kakimoto exhaust.

We stripped the motor down and confirm it had ran #2 bearing, and with bore already at 87mm with n1 pistons it was a no go. Part of the deal with the car was it came with a donor motor however #5 and #6 exhaust ports were oily so valve guides were on the way out.

So with the motor out, i decided that it the best time to freshen the motor up, so dropped the motor down the the rebuilders had the following done:

Supertec racing spline drive

Tomei type b valve springs

Kelford 264/272 cams

Cylinder head ported to match gaskets

CP pistons

Spool Rods

N1 Oil pump with inhouse porting

With the motor back together we got the following accessories:

Ross Performance harmonic balancer with trigger

R35 GTR coil kit conversion

1000cc Bosch injectors

24 and 1 disc for CAS

Being an ex japan car it had a chipped ecu, not wanting to risk it, i decided to go with a Link G4+ with all oil pressure, oil temp, fuel pressure and can lambda.

We got the car tuned and on first tune after run in we made 425whp on 12psi. We ended up with the final figure of 565whp on 20psi.

After driving the car for 3 months the front turbo decided it had enough and blew, so now i had 2 choices, replace the turbo with a 2nd one or go single. Not wanting to risk blowing another 2nd hand turbo as they are getting on in age the decision was to go single. After a few nights of researching decided that precision 6466 was the way to go, next was manifold which was hard as they are all about the same price, so after talking to a few guys in the area and decided to keep the money locally and got a local fabricator to build up a manifold.

I told the fabricator, i want something different from the streamlined manifold and after spending a few hours on the net. We decided billet and titanium would be very different. So we went with a billet T4 merge collector with 1.5" runners with twin wastegates, titanium downpipes and titanium screamers.

With the fuelling now a possible issue, i upgraded to a surge tank in the boot as i had experienced fuel surge when i was under 1/2 tank, so gone with a surge tank with built in twin 460lph pumps and using my 460l intake as a lift pump.

Finally got the car tuned today, well kinda of full tune on 100 octane made 502rwkw on 24psi and 616rwkw on 31psi with E60. More to go tomorrow as we will bump it up to E85 and maybe a few more psi

Well its been a while. Had the car back on the dyno due to a fuel pressure cut and decided while it was on the dyno diagnosing problems we would tweak the tune a wee bit more. Ended up only making an extra 10hp however we had gained 50nm throughout the whole rev range. So now making 626rwkw and 950nm.

Had a drag event on last month so decided to take the car down and give it a shot on the stock box. To anyone who thinks drag racing is easy...well its not my first pass was a [email protected] as the car completely bogged and almost stalled 😅played around with the launch control and managed a slightly better [email protected] Then for the last pass as i needed to go to a birthday party i just sent it and ended up with a [email protected] **please note the 60ft is 1.802 not 0.802 haha

Hey @BKi opted for the synchro box as I still wanted a semi comfortable street car haha

I'm crushed !

You would  have absolutely got your 9 with the PAR box coming, if it was the dog box

Sorry, fixed my own post. Man, I was all pumped for you to start banging gears through with the 6466 !😁 Sorry but it will be pretty hard to bang a 9 out with a synchro box. Not impossible - but very, very difficult. I like the 143mph trap though 👍 and if I'm somewhere similar with my 6466 setup after the final tune I'll be pretty satisfied.

So I take it you've got the straight cut PAR synchro set coming then ? I am still very keen to hear feedback from this transmission once in as this would be my choice for a synchro gearset over an OS giken these days.

Surprisingly tho, my current stock box has no issues flat shifting at 9k rpm. I messaged Neat last week and the input shaft was getting heat treated, so once thats all done it shouldnt take too long. Fingers cross it will arrive here after new years, also opted for the OS centre billet plate as well.

It will eventually if you keep doing it. Remember even on your new PAR synchro box, they are just standard Nissan brass synchros. They only tolerate that sort of abuse for so long, then you'll see this on your transmission drain plug:

Yea, the stock box really is a ticking time bomb.

I did consider the PAR dogbox, but unfortunately not many people near where i live has a dogbox to kind of get an idea on what its like for a daily.

At least i got a good deal with Sam, i could sell it and go dogbox later down the track.

Another hard thing to justify going all out is we only have 6 drag meets a year, and after my last stint i am banned until i get a full cage.

I love H pattern straight cut dog boxes. Would I put one in a daily or even fairly regularly driven car ? - HELL NO !

I've got an OS giken gearset in my 33. I love that box in that car and would never put dog engagement into it so I completely understand where you're coming from - good choice.

Just had an update from Sam at Neat Gearboxes. Gearbox build is in its final assembly and will be shipped in the next few days. Pretty excited to say the least. Opted for the PAR straight cut synchro 1st-4th with stock 5th, PPG centre billet plate and upgraded 26 spline input shaft.
