Daymo's Back! - R32 RB25DET NEO

Recommended Posts

Thanks @KyleArcher, cant take credit for most of the work though as that was the previous owner!

I do have a lot more plans for it now as it wont be a daily driver anymore from next week (getting a work ute)

Yep stock internals, just has ARP headstuds.

300kW on 98, and 365kW on E85

before i do any trackdays i'd like to do a brake upgrade, still on 280mm rotors and unknown pads, im contemplating 350z brembos or 33 GTR brakes but unsure whether they will fit behind the LM's.

Also need to look into all the adjustable suspension arms, im not a massive fan of all the rose joints! i've been looking at the driftworks adjustable arms that have polybushed ends.

We'll see what the tax fairy brings me this year and set up a plan from there.

Maybe you should ask that Dose Pipe prick about fitting BBS LMs over 350Z Brembos :)

(dirty plug I moved away from trak-life and started up my own side hustle, so if you need any braking hardware as such, holla :) )

thanks for the informative link, i've got 17" LM's though so i may be cutting it a bit fine!

I'll keep an eye out for a set of callipers once ive got some coin, either way, if they dont fit i can always sell them on i suppose!

hmmmmmmm

I did have R33 GT-R wheels over them before and they were fine, however I do recall the 18x9 +20 BBS LMs sat pretty close, about 6~7mm of clearance.

Say you had bad front wheel bearings, it probably would have kissed.

I’m running 17x9 +35, however they are reverse mounted so that lowers the offset I believe. I’ll have to do a bit of googling to confirm. I’m sure the VAG boys will have a super detailed explanation as they all have them on their stanced golfs with crackle maps.

Been a little while since i updated this thread. Nothing huge has happened but i'll go ahead anyway.

Managed to source some OEM indicators so that i could get rid of the clear ones that had been painted orange.

IMG_6056.thumb.jpg.9723337bc55ef1c93ea8c7d43552132b.jpg

Then gave the coilpack cover a trim as it fouled on the wiring and installed it back on the engine

Also spent a bit of time this weekend designing and 3d printing a new dash cluster for the car. the one that was in there was just a piece of ABS sheet. i tried adding a bit of an OEM flare and recess the guages properly into the dash rather than having them proud. ive moved the guages closer to the cluster so that its easier to read them when both hands are on the wheel. Pretty happy with how it turned out. may revise the design a bit when i next get some free time!

Ooo looks nasty! I raised my car a bit so I could get on my own driveway. My servo is pretty steep too and I clear that one....just!

It’s been a month or two since I last updated this thread. Been slowly chipping away at the car and doing a few upgrades.

First thing on the list was replacing the front brakes, the discs were below the limit and the pads weren’t too far behind. I thought I’d increase front rotor size whilst I was replacing them.

Purchased some HFM 2 piece 324mm r33 GTR rotors, gktech braided lines and 280-324mm dog bones. Intima SR pads and some motul brake fluid. Gave the callipers a splash of colour whilst they were off too.

Next up was tackling the alignment issue, it’s handled like a bag of crap since I first got it, also had a horrendous squeeking issue on the front passenger side. So I stripped the upper adjustable arms off the car and look what I found.

2E89961C-5617-44C8-8DEA-DAA6992E1351.thumb.jpeg.f7429935325f698ae5c8c628c6657f71.jpeg

Passenger side was the top arm, drivers side was the bottom arm. Notice how drivers side is offset and correct and the passenger side is parrallel? Always wondered why drivers side had more camber than the passenger side. Also found that the bearings where flogged out.3F280A88-FA0C-4999-ACF1-408E217073DA.thumb.jpeg.d1d1e8352bbc285be7ad676759269ad3.jpeg

So they have been thrown in the bin and I’ve replaced them with some Cusco fixed negative camber arms instead. No more squeeks!

Took the car for an alignment and wow what a difference it’s made!!

And last, but by no means least, I’ve put a carbon GTR rear wing on the car. Think it makes the car look heaps better!

Knocked up a sheet metal pod filter cover with some scrap stainless from work this weekend, just need to grab some pinchweld to go around all the edges. Then i took the car out for a drive with my mate in his clubsport, i'm not usually a fan of holdens but this one goes alright!

Hopefully my new headlights arrive in the next couple of weeks, i ordered them 5 weeks ago with an 8 week lead time - might fit them before it goes in for a pink slip and see if the tester picks up on them as im not sure whether the coplus items are ADR approved.

Lights finally arrived today, got them fitted up ASAP. First impressions are pretty good, build quality is solid and the cut off in my garage in daylight seems pretty good too. I’ll have to wait till it’s dark to fully test them out but I’m happy soo far!

Been quiet for the past couple of months and haven’t really driven the car much. I have bought a couple of goodies though.

First thing I did was buy some wind deflectors. These were more to cover the window trims that are starting to crumble up a little bit.

Also gave the car a good wash!

05A325D3-0879-4DEB-BE12-928BCCD123C7.thumb.jpeg.7121768a5fe51fd36a00be61d2960868.jpeg16A89B2C-E5B3-4D45-B77B-263D04F76D7F.thumb.jpeg.8fb9c625ccc09f158d08d6039c833251.jpegB6EDA5A4-C7BB-4092-A42B-B8CF0DF7B989.thumb.jpeg.e111fa615b9a21e40f1fa34d47fdc4e4.jpeg

Next thing on the list was an IC-7 dash. I ordered it and got impatient so I designed and printed a new surround before I even had the dash in my hands. Happy to say it fit perfectly first time!

I’ve only tweaked one layout soo far. Need to figure out how to get the fuel working (it worked on my haltech/racepak iq3 street dash so I’m sure it’s just a setting that I’ll have to tweak.

Really happy with how it looks though, looking forward to having a needle to read for speed rather than numbers! And the ability to fully customise layouts. Will have a proper tinker over the weekend. Anyway, enough chatting, here’s the photos...
