  1. You dont need to take the reinforcement bar off. Its not difficult to take the front bar off, just figure it out as you go. You do have to pull the indicators out to get the plastic fastener underneath. No need to unplug them tho.

Just make sure you have some containers handy to store the screws and clips...it's a pain when you loose them, but yes, it's not that bad, make sure you take your time with it, otherwise, you'll end up loosing pieces and breaking something....never a good feeling lol (I've done this way too many times)

  2. If you have zip tied it so the blend door is in the full cold position and ur not getting cold air then you have a problem. Are you sure its in the fully cold position?

And yeah see if your AC compressor clutch is engaging. Should be able to see the front of the compressor stationary then start spinning when the AC button is pressed on

I was under the assumption that it was, however, since i haven't had the time to pull it out, i've decided to just take it to another airconditioning place to sort it out

As for the AC clutch, it does engage, the whole system is working fine, just not producing cold air lol

the heater tap is to do with the coolant entering the heater unit. basically, when you turn on the heater, the tap opens and allows the warm coolant to enter the heater core. if the tap is dodgey then you will have coolant circulating through the core all the time, but this shouldn't affect the air temp too much unless the flap wasn't fully set to cold.

thanks for the reply mate, I'm having it checked out today, so i'll repost when (hopefully), it gets fixed, hopefully this post will help someone later in the track

  3. I just assumed it was a fake, isn't the original engine worth more than the asking price for this car? Not that it would bother me, I would love to drive it either way but 50k for a 40 year old Datsun?

lol, it's not actually listed as a genuine but a clone, but could be right 50k does seem steep, however, it's hard to price a hakosuka clone as there's literally a hand full in Australia

Cheaper to get one imported from Japan especially with the Au$ being about 93yen. For example:

    http://www.carsensor...tml?TRCD=200002

Now this interests me lol, since i can't read Japanese, i'm guessing, but is that 268 million yen? If so, i'm guessing that's under 30k for a hakosuka clone?

  4. Here's an indication of the way things may be going:

    A restored standard 1990 GT-R

    2000 km travelled

    Still with original tyres

    JPY4,590,000 = AUD48,500

    http://translate.goo...uKmga-OrYT5OBiw

1994 V-Spec II - unrestored and unmodified (apart from dealer fitted Mine's instrument cluster)

    22,400 km travelled

Factory option original Sony 10-disc changer

    JPY3,800,000 = AUD40,438

    http://translate.goo...jeTSA1XB7UcbeVQ

    1994 standard GT-R

    49,000 km travelled

A lot of gadgets in the cockpit and leather seat covers but apparently stock other than that.

    JPY2,690,000 = AUD28,625

    http://translate.goo...ZzEu7IVv2ig#mnc

Not sure how much those would be landed in Australia and then sold on the local market.

Interesting posts, I suppose this is one of those topics we should be re-hashing in say 20 years time? lol

  5. Hi everyone,

I've been gazing upon this on ebay, and was wondering why nobody has fronted the cash on such a nice Hakosuka?

Is it possibly because they're asking too much?

Has the car got some dodgy history?

    Is the importer not reputable?

I'm just interested to know, as Japanese cult classics are starting to rise in promience, both here and overseas and simply why this particular Hakosuka has not been snapped up by a keen skyline enthusiast?

(here's the link for those of you who haven't seen it on ebay):

    Anyway, thoughts?

  6. the aircon was recently serviced and also re-gassed, so i'm assuming it's not that

The compressor does engaged and works fine, what i'm finding is that once the aircon is on, it just blows ambient air, which rises stays at a constant warm heat.

It was working perfectly fine prior to my blend door servo motor dying

I had an airconditioning place remove the motor and "apparently lock it" in the cold position, which doesn't seem to be the case :(

as for the heater tap? sorry, you may have to explain this one too me sorry lol, not good with aircon

  7. Looping or blocking the heater hoses off may produce cool air, but may produce ambient air temperatures

if your already playing with the blend door, cant you just zip tie it in the cold only position or something? That is the easiest thing to do.

Lol, i've actually zip tied the blend door to cold already, but i'm still get warm air

Pop the cable off the water valve and keep it in the closed position

thanks mate, and i hate to sound like noob, but where is that located lol... i'm just being wary to tread carefully, i've had enough mishaps lately lol

  8. Hi everyone,

My blend door servo is still giving me head aches, so instead of trying to sort that out for the 3rd time, I wanted to know if anyone knew how to jimmy the aircon to just produce cold air?

I remember reading on a past thread that someone managed to do so by taking out a heater hose or something in the engine bay or possibly re-directing one to just allow cold air to flow? (can't find the thread anymore :( )

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about how to do it or know's a link of how to do so, that's be great as i'm tired of hot air right now lol

    thanks

  9. Hey everyone,

Searching for a front left hand guard for my 1989 r32 gtr as some drunken "un-insured" dick reversed into it.

If you have one lying around, PM your price, I'm preferrably after a gun-metal grey one, however, happy to take any colour as long as it's in decent condition and doesn't require major repairs.

Anyway, if you have one, feel free to PM or email me with a picture of the guard at:

    [email protected]

or alternatively, message me with a pic on:

    thanks

  10. What is the car going to be used for, if your going to hit the track or the strip I would go for a nicely modded 33 as it will be well cheaper than a standard 34 and you will have cash to pay for tyres, brakes and other consumables, if you just want a daily then its what ever floats your boat.

Me, even if it was a daily, I would get a good late model 33 that someone has spend a shit load of money on "sensible" mods, maybe a rebuilt motor with good service history and engineered, it would still end up cheaper than a good 34 but be a much better performance package for less.

I agree with you here, however, instead of just a built motor, i'd be consider other aspects awell, too many people just rebuild a motor for horsepower, throw some rims on and lower it on coilovers, and then leave the rest, it's all well and good claiming to have plus 300kw, but considering even an r33 gtr is on average 15 years old, i'd be looking for a owner who's actually spent the money and time restoring the car's dynamics as in suspension bushings, upgrading the brakes for the power, etc

If you look for a car with this mindset, at least you'll be getting a car that genuinely had performance in mind as opposed to a dyno-queen/ drag strip car

  11. http://en.wikipedia....000#Early_years

It depends alot on the demographic.

There has been alot of cars with race win history that have only seen moderate acclaim form their victorys.

    In Australia its the V8.

England has had some big success with old Cortinas and Escorts, what we think are average old cars the Brits are importing them, alot of our old ones are going or have gone to England where the smart people making some good coin out of it.

My missus was exporting them by the container load for a couple of years.

I don't disagree with the v8 claim, but to say that will ring true in say the next few generations is a statement to be seen?

Considering the carby v8's of yester-year are dying out with our parents/ grand-parents generations, perhaps the rise of japanese imports will take their place?

do you feel there'll be a strong allegiance to v8's in this generation and the next? or will it be imports and turbo charged variants like the xr6 turbos?

  12. Hmm... lots of opinions and guesses.

Think about it though, ive had bikes that drink fuel like a skyline, and cars that are even worse(kingswood v8).

But by the time they are really worth something there will be very little petrol left.

All collectible cars will just be expensive sculptures.

    Reality sux sometimes.

Drive them and enjoy them while we can

that may be true, but then, consider how many american muscle cars, v8's and high performance european cars roam the streets, it's not about fuel costs, but the enthusiasts value and enjoyment of a car. To most, petrol costs, are just another expense of owning a nice car.

A concours car can be a rebuilt car, the rebuilt car will lose some points but will make it up on build quality, it just needs all original parts like engine/body/tranny match, they will strip the car down to nothing and have it rebuilt to the standard spec that the car was realeased from factory only better quality, I'm talking everything, not your usual show car spec.

In saying that VERY CLEAN low Km cars are sourced.

Sorry for being a bit off topic, get yourself to some concours car/bike shows, they almost make me cry with the detail of everything.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone actually does this later on in life, as so many r32 GTR's have been modified beyond the orignal standards, i.e changing the twins to a single and so forth, considering the costs involved and how japanese imports are viewed as performance cars today, i wonder if our generation will view them with the same perception as our previous generations and restore them to that detail?

It may take some time to get rid of the whole "it's just an import or another skyline stigma?"

Most cars that have a bathurst history have been worth tenfold what they released for new at their peak. The R32 GTR will be a $600-700 thou car at least at their peak. The ADM models will be closer to the 1 mil mark most likely. But you can never tell.

Edit: keep in mind this wont happen for another 15 years or so and 600 thou may not be as much in worth as it is today. This is all as long as the trend stays the way it has been. Look at the phase 3 falcons

the phase 3 is a little different than the r32 skyline, it was exclusively produced for the australian market and for the Touring car championship of the day.

Unfortunately, being a mass produced car, the GTR might be tougher to transcend to that level, i can see it being worth perhaps...$50k - 70k in the future, say a couple of decades lol

  13. at the end of the day, they're doing good for the import/ modifying community at large,

I honestly enjoy their youtube vids, although some of you may not like them, that's fair enough, but on a reasonable level, they've put time and effort into every project they've gone with and have done so with their own money and/or a little from others, for these guys, it's not profit but for the enjoyment of modifying cars
