  2. hey guys well im not sure about the auto ecu and whether it can run correctly without the gearbox, maybe sydneykid knows, and i remember him saying that i couldnt run the stagea auto ecu with my rb25 (stagea engine) in the VL becuase it was manual, i used a normal rb25 engine ecu from a gts-t manual and it runs the engine exactly same as stagea, BUT engine loom would have to be the gts-t manual one and that means u got to intergrate it into the stagea stock harness becuase they also have wires running non engine related stuff like passenger indicator, abs, etc.

sounds like alot of hasle for a manual conversion but id say its worth it and u are gonna mod more in the future  then u can get a power fc for rb25 gts-t manual and it will plug straight in

costs well i paid $1K for gtr 5 speed, and clutch depends on ya $$ situation cause twin plate 800hp from direct clutch in QLD cost me $1600 but its brilliant and light as hell and ally flywheel also

    then ya got:

clutch pedal box from stagea 260rs would be the best cause it will definately fit and available from nissan brand new, not sure on $$$.

clutch vacuum booster same as above

    clutch master cylinder as above

i got a autech genuine pedal so i dunno what will fit...

    master to slave steel line

    gtr slave cylinder

    r33 handbrake

    thats about all

i bought my manual conversion stuff off the forums and got a bloody bargain :) even got about 20-30 genuine nissan washers individually wrapped haha what a waste of $$$ for the poor guy who bought it all originally :)

    anyway thats it

  3. hyperdrive is the go in perth :P

lumpy u r getting grumpy in your old age haha, u gotta treat customers with respect, haha jk, u done a great job on all my cars and he even has done work on them at my own house saving me getting the car to the shop :(

thats only for me i presume so dont go asking for a home service or something from glen and ken :D

just a note, shops and certain unnamed people deserve to be in jail, bloody greedy theiving arseholes around, and also PSI Performance, dont get me started please... i got the good work of brett a few years ago and he pulled my CAS apart with a bloody hammer and chisel in the vice like a butcher, and the autronics ecu wiring was totally arse around and coils were wired in wrong order, so i wouldnt trust him with a bloody datsun 180b.

pm me if people want info on dodgy dickheads in perth :)

    arh well enough whinging

    cheers :)

  4. sounds like a beast and a nice sleeper :)

if its manual, 10s will be a big call without smashing unijoints, and bending diff arms on slicks (i had trouble with both on only 350rwhp in the vl)

i think auto would easily get 10s and sure does save that driveline :P

i gave up with the commodore cause i was told only way to upgrade uni joints was a ford 9' diff and then i need a tremec 6 speed which is about 8K so i gave that a miss :(

    4wd is the go :D

but must admit ill be missing the crazy sideways action of the vl :aroused:

good luck to the owner and hope to see it on some cruises :)

    cya guys

    Brad

  5. thanks guys :P

i bought the stagea to keep a low profile with cops and people in general (theives) so im unsure if i want it in a magazine but maybe ill change my mind :)

i want personalised plates but then again i dont cause people remember them so easily and usual bullshit of jeleous people damaging it when parked etc

so its gonna be nice and quiet (well thats the plan) and subtle :) but once i drop the clutch it will be abit obvious it aint stock :D

ill be cruisn in perth very very soon and i dont mind taking people for a spin if they want :)

with the 350rwhp figure i got from the 26 in the vl and now i got a couple of new mods im hoping to get a high 12 sec pass at the track but thats on street rubber :aroused: not bad for a cruise liner :)

    anyway thanks for the comments

    Brad

  6. hey tigerleo, i have a fulltime job and i do ALL the labour except wiring the 4wd up which hyperdrive motorsport is doin :)

but i tell u what its scary adding up the cost of everything, i have bought all the stuff over the space of 4 years so its a slow process, but i had the goodies all from the vl, like autronics smc ecu, high flow turbos, 700cc injectors, gtr cooler, 044 fuel pump, yadda yadda.....

i cant wait for the first cruise in it ;)

estimated time of completion is 2 weeks from today..... WOOO HOOOOOOOO

exhuast is what we are doin atm, twin 3" off each turbo into single 4" then a 4" magic performance cat convertor, then reduces to 3.5' into a 3.5' stainless muffler, and then 3.5' all the way to rear into a large apexi muffler, gotta be nice and quiet :)

just installing the two (yes 2 ) geo42 GOSS fuel pumps into the tank, and then they feed a external bosch motorsport 044 pump which i gotta mount yet

piping is being welded by someone else, and its all aluminium mmm :)

gotta add all the engine /gearbox/front diff OILS and then shes ready, once lumpy wires up the stuff for 4wd and its ready to fire

engine bay is totally polished to the max and new catch can setup is worth $600 alone, with 2 metres of braided line and 4 x dash 12 fittings and the catch can itself plus the k and n filter on it :) but it looks good and im happy

welcome to the world of modifying cars hehe, cost alot and cash doesnt go far when doin this sort of conversion let me tell you :)

im single so i dont have the costs of a g/f like i had for the past 3 years until last november so i got $$$ :) and now i got the time to actually do stuff on it :)

gonna be awesome and ill post some piccies of the engine bay soon when i get time

    gotta go

  7. the stagea auto tailshaft fits perfecto :) the gtr manual box and stagea auto r exactly the same length

also a hole needs to be cut for the shifter (i did one about 2.5" round in the centre of the plate under the console)

with the wiring side of things i just been doin yesterday, the neutral safety switch is one of the four plugs that are on the drivers side chassis in the engine bay (left from the auto gearbox wiring), it has 2 fat thick wires, well u just need to join the 2 and ya sweet

reverse lights are one of the other 3 plugs (the grey one which has about 7 wires) and the reverse lights r the green wire and the black wire which join to the switch on the manual gearbox to activate reverse lights :)

r33 handbrake is a peice of piss to fit, and the cable is exactly the right length when u disconnect it under the car, and join the first section from the r33 handbrake onto the 2 pins under the car for the rear half of the stagea cables ;)

once ive got my car on the road and i have some spare time ill draw up a diagram of the clutch vacuum booster holder thing i made :)

oh also for the clutch system u need to get hold of a gtr clutch/brake vacuum canister which sites in the bay hard against the drivers side gaurd closest to the firewall (about 4" in diameter and 200mm long with 2 outlets). u need a one way valve also so it doesnt explode on boost :)

ill get the exact part number of the vacuum canister in the next few days and ill post it up

cheers and hope it helps guys

    Brad

  8. Ok guys, I have decided to do the conversion, I just cant stand driving the auto anymore (I have been using our Mirage every opurtunity i get because its manual).

Now, the trickiest thing that I can think of is moving the handbrake up to its normal position so it doesnt get in the way of the clutch (wouldnt that be fun!).

    • R32/3 GTR/GTS4 gearbox (because of 4WD? or can I use the Gtst one?)
    • Pedal Set (Any car really eh?)
    • Clutch master cylinder and all brackets etc
    • Clutch (bleugh)
    • 260RS centre console trim and handbrake lever (otherwise I will just hack mine up i guess)

    What else is there?

So looking forward to doing this...

    Christian!

    hey prank

well heres the best info i can describe in words to ya, and probably forgot some of it too ;)

    gtr 5 speed box

    gtr clutch master cylinder

    gtr clutch vacuum booster

    gtr clutch vacuum canister

    gtr slave cylinder

    r33 gts-t handbrake (fits perfect)

first thing is to mount the vacuum booster and clutch master cylinder to the firewall and with my rb26 engine (not sure on rb25) it wouldnt clear the plenum, so, the vacuum booster had to be recessed into the firewall about 40mm to give clearance, and we got a piece of 4" exhuast pipe, cut it to 40mm length, then welded a flat plate onto one end of it for the pedal box to bolt onto, and the other end has a flange about 10mm all the way around the outside of the pipe. needs a centre hole cutout about the size of a 20c peice and then two holes need to be drilled for the studs on the clutch vacuum booster.

now to find the right place to cut the firewall :( go under the dash and look where the clutch should be and there is only 1 panel thickness hole for the clutch, but i used that hole as the centre point for the 4" hole, now cut the hole once marked and then the peice i made earlier slips snug into the firewall leaving only a outer flange visable, and we decided to screw it in rather than weld because otherwise it wrecks the paint, and carpet and underfelt dont like flames :(

now the clutch pedal box will bolt onto the peice i made, and the top bolt holes from the old footbrake are used, only 1 lines up with the help of filing the pedal box hole abit bigger, and then we welded abit of steel bar off the side to drill a hole in it to bolt it up in the 2 factory spots :) pedal lines up perfect with the rest.

the r33 gts-t handbrake is easy to install i used two decent sized bolts to mount it, had to remove drivers side seat to get the drill in to drill the two holes ;) i aint sorted out the console surround yet but i presume a 260rs one is the best bet, or chop the factory auto one :)

ill post up bits and pieces as i remember :)

    hope it helps

    cheers

    Brad

  9. hey guys, sounds very familiar ;)

i only drove the stagea for about 2 weeks before i took it off the road for the conversion and i got more looks than my rb26 purple VL Calais which used to get everyone looking, i thought hehe. but the stagea is good cause people just think WTF is that rather than immediately thinking purple vl= modified, such as cops :(

so when my rb26 engine is running its gonna be a bloody fun wagon to cruise around in and surprise plenty of people

  10. I cant help but stare at that engine pic, the engine bay is just immaculate!

    hehe

cheers mate, took farkin ages to fill all the leftover holes, and weld up all the inperfections etc, but well worth it, once wiring is hidin etc :P had to extend all the headlight wiring and shit so it would run under the gaurds and just annoying shit like that :(

unfortunately the stagea isnt goin to look as neat and empty as there is bugger all room for everything and most of the room is full with bloody 4wd stuff and battery will be goin in the boot just so i can fit a catch can in the place of it :D

in the near future ill do the stagea bay the same when i upgrade to hks 2530 turbos and the engine is out, ill repaint and hide everything :)

trust me its a pain in the arse of a job

  12. hey guys i was wondering which model attessa system is in the stagea? cause i reckon its the r33 or maybe 34 one so that means i cant safely run rwd with a toque split controller in the car????

im talking for pulling up somewhere and flicking the button and instant rwd and some donuts i shall try :aroused:

do i need to drain the attessa to not cause any damage to clutches?

    any ideas on the issue?

    thanks :D

    Brad

  13. seen my first stagea in perth on saturday night besides mine on the road :D

was white with zorst, rims, and i was in my vs commodore so he wouldnt let me catch up :)

it was saturday night about 9pm in leederville i think

    anyone own it here?

i noticed a silvia cruisn with it if that helps :)

  14. no worries gary

and yes ill be cruisin in the future for sure :)

recently put 4wd sump onto engine and installing engine in bay for final time tomorow :) had to remake the front turbo dump pipe to clear the passenger side driveshaft on the sump.

as i said in other post the handbrake is done now using r33 one

and in a few weeks it should be a goooer :headspin:
