  1. I know I'm a bit late to the party, however I was just working my way through some old emails and saw this. I have been toying with the idea of getting a Stillen supercharger for a while now, however it's for the 2014 Q60 S (VQ37), I know they have ones for your model also. Stillen does seem the way to go. I will put a link below for you.

    http://www.stillen.com/products/superchargers/370z--g37--q50-intercooled-supercharger-system-99946/?varyear=2014&varmake=Infiniti&varmodel=Q60

Also there is an awesome business in Sydney, that specialise in our cars. - I'm not affiliated with this mob at all, I have just read some great things about them. I'm in S.A , so I don't get to use them unfortunatey. The place is called Tunehouse - link below.

    http://www.tunehouse.com.au

This looks like a great all round site.

Good luck with it all. I will be interested to hear how you get on. Also, if anyone else has gone down this path, (preferably for the VQ37, sorry to hijack thread.. please let me know)

  2. I really like this car.

It seems to be a logical step in terms of its design over the V35 coupé, you can definitely see the similarities.

$71,470 on road is the price quoted on the website.

I'm just not sure I'd pick it (at that price) over a German alternative.

    Pics;

    exterior.Par.75382.Image.direct.jpg

If you had $70k to spend, would you buy an Infiniti?

That first pic you posted up is the Q60 IPL (Infiniti performance Line) Now that's the pick for me. It has 259Kw compared to 245Kw or in the old measurement (my measurement ;) ) not sure why Australia changed it?

    348Hp compared to 330Hp

It also has a few extras, wheels etc but the big thing for me is the look of it. It has a much more aggressive stance due to the body kit. I'm actually thinking of ordering at least the front part of the kit.

Does anyone else like the IPL ?

Actually come to think of it I reckon it looks a bit like a Mustang... ?

Below is the link to it.

  3. G'day mate,

You are spot on with The sizes. I just purchased an Australian Q60 S coupe (this is top model spec, same as 370GT SP in Japan)

    Wheel & Tyre

    • 19-inch 5-triple-spoke alloy wheels (P225/45 R19 Front & P245/40 R19 Rear)

    Front Rim Description 19x8.5

    Rear Rim Description 19x9.0

The Base Model Q60 or in Japan 370GT

    18 inch 10 spoke alloy wheels • (P225/50 R18 Front & P245/45 R18 Rear)

I will hopefully let you know tomorrow what brand.

  4. It's goes off tbe compliance date

    yup, compliance date.

warranty goes by first date of registration.

Ok... They sure have it both ways then. I bet when it comes to resale it will be based on Build date :(

Like I said in S.A , no matter what, the car has to be sold by the build date. I must say its a bit disappointing, from what I have found out it is a bit of a grey area. I also would have thought the rule/law would change when it has been registered? I would expect that from a dubious used car sales place etc. but not from a premium dealer especially when forking out a bit of coin. Would be nice if they said it's really a 2013, another lesson learnt I guess, don't trust anyone :(

I also thought it would change things when it's been registered all ready,

  5. Hi all,

I have been trying to get some information clarified. In NSW, legally how is a car dealer meant to advertise a Demo car that has been registered. Is the advertised year determined by Build date or Compliance date?

For example, a car has build date of 2013, compliance date of 2014 and is a MY14. It is a demo car that has had registration for three months. What year are they legally meant to advertise it as? Again it's a Demo, so I guess that would qualify it as a used car? If so I'm sure that should change things?

I know it's a bit of a grey area especially when it comes to a brand new car, It is also different in each state.

In S.A it doesn't matter if it's a brand spanking new car, a demo or a fully used car, it has to be advertised by the build date.

Again just after information for N.S.W. I would Appreciate any help.

    Cheers,

    Paul

  6. This thread is a prime example as to why I think this is the most knowledgeable car forum in Oz and possibly the world, great show of wisdom and kindness

All the best with your endeavours Edifier, look forward to living vicariously through your future GTR experiences - feel free to post up any prospect cars to find outside SAU, everyone is more than happy to lend you a second set of eyes

Holly crap Jun, what a damn hassle for you. Happy to hear it all worked out. I really wish that business got what it deserves, shonky as.

I totally agree with the above comments, this forum also saved me from buying through another, let's say, a less then honourable place. There is a lot of them out there when it comes to grey imports. If able to its always best to go through a broker service, another +1 for Iron Chef Imports. However it seems you have some great examples already offered to you, I reckon you can trust Terry... Just maybe ;)

Actually perhaps that's an ill timed joke, yes you can trust Terry and co :)

I also can not wait to find out what you end up with. Please post pics when you do get your baby/beast.

    All the best.

  7. Just rub it in Black Dog...

But in all seriousness, congrats. I think I may need to visit my local dealer to take one for a test drive just so I don't feel like I'm missing out! :D

Haha, yeah got a bit carried away ;) When I was Going to get the import one it was such a hassle and concern regarding the conversion etc. So it's a big relief I don't have to worry about all that now. I will post some pics when I get her, that's if I'm still allowed on this site? Anyway we all know it's still a Skyline at the end of the day ;)

Thanks for that though mate. Yeah seriously if anyone is considering buying a local one (not grey import) now is a great time to get one. Most will be aware they are struggling at the moment to gain a foothold in the local market, especially with their current line up (soon to change) so they are keen to get bums in seat. So if thinking of going that way, now is the time to go for it :)

  8. I would like to add another one for Iron Chef Imports. I hope it will count.

For full disclosure, I did not get to the stage of having a car landed and complied (reason below) however I did go through every other process involved. Searching for a car etc. I have to say Troy was brilliant, nothing was to much trouble and I sure bugged him a heck of a lot. The process was very easy all my concerns were met and I felt completely secure during it all.

The reason I did not get one landed, was because in the end I decided I wanted a new model vehicle and because of import laws (car now sold in Australia, I couldn't import) I ended up buying a 2014 Australian car, NOT a import.

  9. Just finalised a deal on a 2014 Q60 S Coupe. Hopefully it arrives this week coming.

I was initially going to get the import top spec but I wanted a later model one and for the price I was going to spend on that, as I went along it seemed more like a crazy option, if I had come across this car when they were first released in Japan then it would be a no brainer to import or if I still only wanted a earlier model today. Considering that once I had it here none of the Tech worked, you know like Sat Nav, no Cruise or if it had cruise it was limited, everything was in Japanese and no warranty plus limited options when it came time to sell (no trade in at most places etc)

Now we all know it's bad manners to talk about money spent etc in public however I can tell you I paid absolutely no where near the price advertised. I ended up with a new Q60 S Coupe, 4 year warranty and 4 year roadside assist and the biggest advantage, everything works :) nothing is in Japanese, I don't have to screw around with Sat NaV etc, all the info and warnings are no probs, I can set the cruise to what I want and on top of that way more options when it comes time to sell.

So I'm 100% satisfied with my decision and cannot wait for it to get here.

  10. I'm trying to find out what years Nissan Skyline V36 Coupe used the colour code KAD. It appears it's been around for a while in the USA G series, but I can't confirm what years for the Japanese Skyline.

It's also being used on the R35 GT-R and I think the 370Z

If anyone can help I would appreciate it heaps. As I'm trying to import one in that colour.

    Cheers,

  11. That's because he's encouraging you to exercise a little logic. Do you buy a brand new car or do you buy the same one from Japan with low kilometres at a significantly reduced price and slightly better featured, as evidenced by the specs?

It's a no-brainer. I, personally, would never buy a car brand new. The fact I bought my '09 SP coupe back in late 2011 with better specs (namely the bigger rims) at a fraction of the Australian '12 G37 is evidence of the better value I got and the less I stand to lose over time in depreciation.

I understand you're excited and all but if your brain is working overtime, then you need to take a breath and keep a cool head before you make a decision you'll regret. Take it from another grumpy old fart.

My brain always works overtime, there's no off button for this one ;)

It's not a brand new car, hence the reduction in price and some other factors as mentioned. There is no way I would pay $80,000 + for this car. I really would have thought that a locally sold car that has everything already in English and set up for Australia (Sat Nav etc) would have a better chance at keeping some resale value and the general public would readily accept it over a import one. Also a big one is it would be freely accepted as a trade in at any car dealership. Where as I wouldn't think a lot of dealers would take a import as a trade in? Please correct me if I'm wrong. There is no doubting that getting one from Japan is the bargain of the century, but it's just like I said, I want to try and cover all my bases. Now I know this isn't always possible, however I'm trying to find out as much info as I can. And I can't think of another place better than this forum, to get that knowledge from.

  12. Yeah fully understand that's what made me pick up a V35 over a 350Z. Think I have used the back seats 3 times in the 2 years I have owned the car but its always nice to have the option.

Even just to chuck stuff on, it's a handy option. When I first started thinking about getting another car, I was originally going to spend only $10,000 on a 300Z for a play around, that's what started the whole ball rolling with my first import & Nissan. Then it went to the 350Z & so on.... Here I am now, searching for a 370GT coupe and a hell of a lot more money going into it. Gotta love the cars/toys the whole process turns into the making of a monster before you know it ;)

I have 2 car/booster seats in the back for my 6 and 3 years olds. My back seat gets used a LOT :) .... I had no option, but do love the 370Z.

Wow, now that's putting it to the test, I like it :) Cool kids in the backseat of a cool ride ;) if you dropped them off to school in that, you will be a hit with everyone, they will be going like Wow your Dad is so cool what a sick ride ;) that's if they still say sick these days? :) So your's is a coupe isn't it Andrew?

When I did my trip to Adelaide recently, I got to sit in a 370Z (first time, no drive though) & yeah it's very nice, just too impractical, all it had was those two little compartments behind the seats. It might carry a six pack if you're lucky but that's about it. Still love them though.

On the same trip I also got to sit in a V36 coupe, again first time. Still haven't driven one :( and won't get a chance to do so until when & if my one arrives. I was pleasantly surprised about the back seats and how much room there was. Well pretty good for leg room but not head space. I'm over 6'2 so there was no way I could sit up properly, not without doing some serious acrobatic moves with my neck. I felt like a damn giraffe....

That's the beauty though about being the owner, you never have to worry about travelling in the back seat of your own car :)

  13. and when you clean them too much as most people with black cars do.. they often end up looking like this...

    DSCN1870_zpsc40a9e26.jpg

good from afar, but far from good ..

Truth is they do take some knowledgable maintenance to keep them looking proper...

But if you are prepared to take some time to learn the correct maintance procedures they will reward you...

Yeah, I'm definitely not the type of person to spend ages cleaning & buffing my car... It might be different if I had a Supercar, say like a Pagani Zonda R or Bugatti Super Sport, drool... Torture :(

So not the colour for me, however I still think it's the best looking colour.

ARTZ, is that pic a bit like what they call paint burn in?

Also as far as the correct method for maintaining black cars etc. Surely All you have to do is watch the movie 'Karate Kid' ;) just make sure it's the original movie and not the rip off/remake one.....

Edit - Forgot to add this website, some might find some handy hints on it.

The pics I have added were taken by me, all I had was iPhone, so not the best quality. I was lucky enough to see it in person, pretty close to when it was released to the public. It was in the middle of Berlin, Germany, at their superstore/museum, amazing place btw, it has every important product the company has made throughout the years, including some amazing old motorbikes. Mind blowing to see it that close in real life. I also spoke to the main guy that was there, he had driven the Super Sport model, so it was a real treat to hear first hand feedback on how good it really is. I swear he has one of the best jobs :)

  14. Haven't been on carsales in a while but can you pick up a 370Z for under 40k? Might be an option if you want a Aus made car and might be a little easier to sell/trade at a later date.

Thanks Lee for the suggestion. I have seen some great 370Z's for some bargain prices and I really like them as a car. However the reason I would pick the 370GT/G/Q60 & so on ;) coupe over them is because of the rear seats. It just adds that little bit more user friendly/options than just a straight two seater. Otherwise I would most definitely snap up a 370z in a heartbeat.

  15. Nice looking ride. So it is K23, colour code? I really like the wheels too, did you keep them? The boot spoiler is nice touch as well, which is what I will be adding. Is it the standard extra option Nissan one, or another make? Also I reckon it looks pretty mean lowered, not to everyone's taste I know. I would love to get Chris to do my Cruise Control, only thing standing in the way is, I live in S.A. Not sure where Iron Chef do their Compliance on the cars coming in?

Also Dave, as I said, the sunroof was high on my list of options, so I'm really disappointed I can't get it due to my height :( if anyone has any ideas on this please let me know. I mentioned it to Troy F, as soon as I read your post. He of course remembered you and your wife and came up with an idea (not sure if he has contacted u?) since you already have the sunroof, he said try the option of lower seat rails. Better & cheaper surely then new roof etc.

  16. If you think your purchase might be a short term one, then why buy a new(ish) model with super low km for $40k??? Buy an 09 with 50,000km on for $25k and the loss wil be significantly less when you sell it.

Again as I said in another post of mine, I'm the type of person that likes to try and cover all his bases. Also I have no idea what the future holds for me, damn I'm not sure what I will do a week from now let alone a few years down the track ;)

It could be long term it could be short term..... Welcome to my life :)

I really like to get a car/toy as good as I can for the money/budget I've allowed myself for this one, which is up to about $40,000, there about.

So this is where and why the hesitation comes in as I have no idea what might happen? If I do sell it short term, I sure as hell don't want to take a ludicrous hit on the money side, well no more than you would with a non import car and my biggest fear would be, not being able to sell it or trade it as easily as you would with a local car.

  17. Sadly most cars are released in Aus come somewhat detuned compared with their Japanese/USDM counterparts :(

Yes, a near new G60 for $46k sounds like a great deal - but when you go to sell it you will basically be competing with all the V36s around. Yes of course the English controls/buttons is a big plus, but the distance a $46k can fall compared to a $25k car is huge.

And yes, I am a grumpy old fart :) ..... and I have seen similar questions posed by a million whipper snappers since I started moderating SAU in 2002, so forgive me :P

So in respect to the Aus engine, I assume it's just a matter of getting it tuned to unleash the beast? Really strange they would screw around with it in the first place. Not sure of their reasoning on that one?

I just thought the Australian sold one would also open it up to a bigger marketplace and I'm sure all dealerships would readily accept it as a trade in compared to the Japanese one.

No worries on the grumpy part ;) I can only imagine the same crazy questions over time, coming up over and over again, would get old real quick.

I'm very new to this whole import stuff and I'm the type of person that has my brain working overtime 24/7 trying to learn everything and look at things from every different angle :)

    Cheers

  18. Don't hold your breath on resale value. V35's that were $30k-$40k 5 years ago are worth $15k now, and V36s that were worth $50k-$60k 4 years ago are worth $30k now. It's just cars in general - and yes, any import is an absolute pita to sell. Just enjoy them and not worry about the money.

Now this is a great reply ;) Thank you. Not the answer I was hoping for but good info nonetheless.

If you think you'll make anything bar a loss then you'd need to re-consider. First hand evidence...both myself and my mate have V36 370GT SP (i.e top of the line) advertised on carsales and other forums. Mine has consistently been way under market price - despite the fact I'm in a large market (Vic) - I basically get zero enquiries. EVen timewasters would be welcome.

Whilst I think the 370GT SP is a helluva lot of car for the money (I would presume an imported one should now be about $25K drive away?), good luck in getting anyone to buy it when it comes to selling...unless you have a particular config that is exactly what the buyer wants.

As NIghtcrawler says - just enjoy it. You will. It's a great car, and perplexing why anyone would fork an extra $5-7K for a 370Z when they can get this (although, I have to admit, the two rear seats are almost redundant).

Good luck with it - look forward to seeing what you end up with.

    Thanks for info mate :)

Hmmm it's definitely not what I wanted to hear. I'm also going for, the top of the line SP model. I will be dolling out some serious cash, well for an import it will be, Up to $40,000.... I don't see it being a long term car, only because of practical reasons, Coupe etc. I will certainly enjoy it I have no doubt. However I don't think I could take a serious hit when it comes to resale. Also as said its a lot smaller marketplace that would buy one of these compared to selling a non import and I'm not sure if a normal car dealer would accept it as a trade in? The trouble with looking at CarSales it can give you a false impression that the vehicle has been sold. As when it says the vehicle is Sold, that can also mean the person trying to sell has just removed the car from the site. Makes it very hard to gauge what is really happening. I of course know that certain home brands are also shocking at resale value (bigger marketplace though) Ford springs to mind. As you said Foibles, it's a hell of a lot of car they would be getting for bugger all money. I certainly don't expect to make a profit but I sure as hell don't want to lose a fortune.

Please Guys and Gals I'm after some really solid advice, as what to do. Would perhaps getting an Australian Infiniti sell better? Any suggestions at all would help heaps. As this information has really worried me :(

Perhaps after all that I might need to scrap the idea altogether of getting the import. Which will be a real shame.

    Thanks

Edit- I've just had a couple of Valium & calmed down a bit ;) I know cars in general resale value are insane these days. My folks for example have a BMW & the trade in or if sold privately is a completely stoopid price. I guess my biggest fear is if I can't sell it as a trade in or I just can't sell it full stop, short of selling it for a carton of beer if I'm lucky..

Again any advance will be a big help.

  19. At basically double the price, why would you even ask the question? Why would the Q60 be heavier? It is basically the same car.

Seriously.... Damn man your replies can come across as a grumpy old fart some times..

As for the price, yes they are dearer. They most certainly are advertised at almost double the price. However I have been following closely an Infiniti flagship dealer in Australia and I can absolutely confirm some of the prices they have been selling some of their coupes at is only a quarter at most dearer and of course with that you get everything in English. They started selling the Infiniti in Australia in 2012, first badged as 'G' series then changed to 'Q60' in 2013. One example there is a vehicle for sale right now at Infiniti, compliance date 11/2012, badged as 'G' but is the 'Q60' for all intensive purposes. It's the premium version, 11,000 Km's on odo and is only $46,000 drive away. Tell me that ain't a good deal ;)

Car advice has an article on the very topic. Stating that Infiniti Australia slashed their prices to combat poor sales figures. If I can change my thread topic to include the 'G' series Australia in it I will..

The V36 Coupe is only 1620Kg Kerb weight isn't it?

It's the same car. I doubt the power output is different unless they really tune it differently.

    http://www.infiniticars.com.au

    http://www.infiniticars.com.au/q60-coupe/specifications-options/specifications.html

Yep, I've tripled checked it and then some. It's definitely only 235Kw. Why I'm not sure?

Some Power to Weight Ratio figures I have seen are 135.9 W/kg

I asked what I thought would be a pretty simple reply from someone in the know. That was, if you would notice a big difference in the power output, performance etc.?

Sonicii, yeah the Q50 Hybrid is a damn good pick :) 268Kw & 546 Nm Torque, very nice indeed. Haven't seen any good deals on those suckers though.

Edit- Don't know how to add 'G' in Thread Topic?

  20. Just after some opinions. The Australian Q60 has 235Kw and possibly heavier (not sure on that one?) and as we know the Japan V36 has 245Kw & is 1620kg I think? Please correct me on the weights if not right. V36 based on that would have power to weight ratio of 151 W/kg. Not sure of Q60 because don't know the weight.

I think that is really the main difference between the two cars.

Would you notice the difference in power etc between the two? Or is it too close to call?

  21. i did ask this question once here. i ended up going with NRMA. i pay around $1700 with $1k excess (on its second year i used to pay $1800).

the good thing about NRMA is they are not fussed with mods....

so works with me. just have to fork out this much to drive this beast on the road

Holy Shit... That's crazy expensive. I'm guessing you are young or possibly have a bad rating?

I got a quote & it is less than half of what you are paying. Look below for more info.

I didn't know NRMA would touch grey imports!!!!

I thought Shannons and Just Cars were basically the only two...

Yeah I wouldn't have thought NRMA would insure it either... I got a quote through Just Cars, comprehensive cover, I based it on a 2012 370GT SP Coupe Auto. I put an agreed value of $40,000 for an example, as I have know idea what the real value is? I'm not sure if they do market value? I didn't see the option. They also allow an unlimited amount of legal mods. Total annual premium $716, $650XS. Total annual premium $774, $450XS. Pretty stoked with that. Can some other members please post what they are paying and who with, or PM me if you are not comfortable letting everyone else know. It will be a big help and of course will save a lot of time.

    Thanks.

  22. My car on the dock... Still ridiculously low which has been fixed. As to Cruise Control, I had Chris from Audio Express put it in my car. Factory too!!! He bought a steering wheel from Japan that had the right buttons and then fit it and turned on the existing controls!! The man is a genius!!!

    attachicon.gif033.jpg
