  1. I will probably only have windows on the ssd and what is a good price for a 3.5 ghz i5?

Not sure but you could always look on eBay and see what kind of deal you can get. If you're in the UK you could look on Scan.co.uk which is a pretty decent site, I've got quite a few components off there and so far no issues with them.

eBay you can get decent parts if you're willing to look around. I've just bought an old EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SuperClock which cost £40 + £5 for delivery, I didn't need it but I like them so it was an impulse purchase.

  2. Yep! I love my 'dubs.

I considered selling my Bora (the daily commuter) and getting a B5.5 W8 Passat but they were SO thirsty and were slower than my Bora, though would have had some 'wow' appeal. :D

The W8 engine is an interesting design. I came across this video on youtube if you're interested.

  3. What do you guys think is better a 970 black edition or a 970 wind force ?

Apart from clockspeeds (usually isn't much to be honest) and the styling they will be the same. There isn't really much that distances the same cards today. They are both good so get whichever is the best deal.

  4. Yes. Evo IIIs were (and are) very special.

I wish I was old enough in the early 1990's to see those on the rally stages.

I want her so much, I wish there were more cars like this. The original Evolution GSR is really nice as well.

  5. All the time, meaning constantly while running.

As a test just drop the PCV off the intake for a few days, and plug the intake side only. Should prove it's the PCV or not pretty quickly.

All the time meaning on start-up. I leave it running for around 10 minutes and the smoking calms down. What is the PCV?

  6. No-one wants to see your old Peugeot in a Skyline specific section, did you misplace it here? The new Euro section above might have been better. :P

Cold start smoking can just be a little blowby causing excess oil to drop down from the PCV overnight and sit on the valve, nothing to worry about usually, unless it does it all the time.

That would have been better but couldn't find it and also it does it all the time on start-up.

  7. Hi all,

Just changed the turbo exhaust manifold gasket and car is much quiter

Also changed the plugs which god knows how long they were there with which were bkr5 to bkr6

Car runs fine and did a zero to sixty under 6.4 as that is how i am measuring its power:D

But two issues from 4k upward the car seems dead and power band is flat . As far as i know the neo moves from 5 psi to 7 but that isnt working i guess

Also sound of turbo is lesss

    Second issue is misfire

You can hear the missess every now and then when car is standing idle or when reving and it revs down you can hear the spits backs

    What can it be?

Plug changed( could it be too cold for my engine?)

Coilpack cleaned and used dielectric on it

    Turbo gasket fixed

The fuel canister pipe was leaking a bit of air which i fixed it but no improvement

Does the consult software tell you anything ?

How would you narrow the misfire?

    Many thanks

You could swap the coil packs around to see if you can localise the cause.

  8. Sounds good but we'll see. I'm a Level 3 qualified vehicle technician but because I only have 16 months of experience there aren't any garages that want me, the really annoying thing about it is that I spent 4 years of my life studying for the qualification and so far it has been a waste of time. I'm currently 26 years old so time is ticking by and I don't want to sit and watch the world go by.

  9. Whereabouts are you bud?

Dvla vehicle check won't show much tbh - most aren't registered as stageas. Seen them registered as skylines before. My v5 just says Nissan!

Normal service stuff really, OEM cambelt is good enough.

Brilliant, sounds good and also I'm in a town called Boston in Lincolnshire UK. Quite far away from Australia :)

  10. I have tried moving the coil packs around. Moved number 4 to number 1 and the problem seemed to continue on number 4.

Could be a spark plug issue. I would probably take it to a garage before replacing any parts

  11. I've read that the RB25 engines are prone for the coilpacks not working correctly. Have you tried moving coil packs around onto different plugs to determin which pack it is?

  12. I've been here for around 2 weeks and couldn't find the off-topic to post an introduction until I came across this lol

Anyway hey guys, I'm relatively new here. Currently stuck in the UK though I do have plans to move to Melbourne but right now I'm not sure how to go about it.

I have two cars which include a 2003 Suzuki Alto GL and a 1993 Peugeot 306 XR that currently needs some (or alot) of work doing to get it up to standard.

Anyway better late than never :P

  13. Still can't find any series one Stagea's. Found some pictures online and used the 'DVLA Vehicle Check' feature and most are SORN which is annoying. They're probably sat unprotected rotting away on someones drive.

Hope I can find mine before they all vanish.

  14. Well I'm starting to compile a list of the parts that will be needed for my old 22 year old Peugeot 306 XR. On start up she does smoke quite a lot which I'm suspecting is the valve stem seals purely because after a while the smoking settles down. I've owned the car for almost 7 years (Bought her in November 2008) and she has been off the road now for almost 4 years. In total she has clocked up 153,328 miles which isn't too bad at all for an old 1.4L engine.

Engine is a TU3 series 1,360cc producing (once apon a time) 75bhp which sounds like nothing compared to a lot of cars on this forum. The car has no rear window which was my fault but as for corrosion it isn't as bad as it should be for a car of this age, there is quite a bit in the engine bay which I want to deal with but underneath it isn't too bad. I took the pictures with a stock digital camera so I am far from an expert at it so please bare that in mind :P

I've bought some decent 10-40w engine oil from the store that I work at, doesn't have to be amazing as I just want something clean because the oil has been sitting in there for almost 5 years, I have a new filter and some Wynns engine flush for my day off when I have time to do it. I've been told an numerous occasions to scrap it and quite a few times I've tried but couldn't bring myself to do it, I'm stuck with her and that is OK to me and since it is a 1993 XR there are only around 500 left on the roads in the UK so all the more reason to keep her and once I can find a garage or somewhere to rebuild her I'll make a record so I can put together a build log of some description.

  15. My 5 year old GTX 570 is still going strong. So much money can be wasted in GPU's.

Those old Fermi's are still pretty decent. I know someone with an EVGA GeForce GTX 460 and even though it is showing its age still runs pretty well but he does have to knock the settings down and also I know someone with a pair of GTX 580's and they still kick ass to this day.

My brothers has quite an old PC that he is still using. Asus P5EX38, a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0GHz and an EVGA GeForce GTX 760. Until around a year ago he was using a BFG Tech GeForce GTX 260 which at almost 7 years old (along with the rest of the system minus the GTX 760) is still running strong.

  16. Can't wait till the end of the year, so long as they are worth it I'll be upgrading my platform to a Z170 board and an Intel Skylake Core i7 but if they are following the same bullshit 6-8% performance improvements then yet again I'll be sticking with my Z77 Gigabyte board and my trusty Sandy Bridge Core i5-2500K.

A better case will help with the GPU temps but I doubt you will ever cool them well. I have had the same issue in the past when I ran 2x GTX 660Ti with minimal distance between the cards. I mounted a 1500rpm 120mm fan blowing fresh air directly between the 2 cards but the top GPU always ran way hotter and on some games I had to de-clock the cards so it they didn't crash. It looks like your cards are designed to vent the hot air into the case and not out of the case which will make matters worse as the top card will be pulling in even hotter air.

Yea agreed, not really sure what I can do. I know the GPU's are designed to run at close to 80 degrees but I don't want them there
