    FERODO BRAKE FLUIDS CHARACTERISTICS

    We’ve spoken quite often in the past at length about why it’s essential to choose the right brake pads for your intended application. But one thing enthusiasts often don’t consider is the final piece of the puzzle – choosing an adequate brake fluid to bring the whole braking system together.

    Brake temps can soar sky high whenever a car is driven in a spirited manner – whether that be from a simple run through a winding road, to a short sprint event, or even a full race day.

    And it’s no surprise that if you’re not fully prepared with the right brake fluid flowing through your system, you’re going to have a bad time, at the worst time possible.

    Brake fade is not a good thing to experience, and outright brake failure even more so. By utilizing the correct fluid for the temperatures your brake system will see, you’ll ensure that your brake fluid doesn’t reach boiling point and braking performance will remain optimal during use.

    Use the below guide to assess which brake fluid is most suitable for your application. If your brakes are still getting excessively hot even with the highest temperature-rated product, then your braking system is either poorly ducted, or more typically, simply too small and must be upgraded to suit the demands.

    For best results, brake fluid should also be re-drained, re-placed and re-bled after each heavy race weekend.

    It’s safe to say that when your brake rotors start to show cracks, they’re pretty much done for. A cracked rotor is completely unsafe to drive on and should be replaced immediately. What causes such extreme damage though?

    Generally, cracking occurs mostly with rotors that have been drilled. Whilst drilled rotors do provide loads of braking performance improvements, they are more prone to cracking. More specifically, rotors that would have started out as blanks and had the holes drilled into them rather than those that have been casted with the holes in them. Cracking in these types of rotors has a lot do with structural rigidity. Drilling through a rotor greatly compromises its strength, especially if no care has been taken to not drill through the support vanes of the rotor, making cracking pretty much an inevitability. DBA’s cross-drilled brake rotors are quality-assured as they’re casted with the holes in them meaning you’ll be hard-pressed to have this type of damage come about.

    Heat dissipation also has a lot to do with why cracking in drilled rotors occur. As rotors get hot under usage, thermal expansion occurs and if the drilled rotor has been manufactured incorrectly, they begin to crack as the heat dissipates. This is due to the fact that the thermal energy is centralised around the holes rather than spread evenly across the rotor. Again, this is unlikely if the rotor has been casted with holes already present.

    Another reason is to why rotors may begin to crack is the build-up of gas and debris. As the brakes are engaged, gas and debris collects in between the brake pads and rotors which can cause the rotors to crack over time. Slotted and drilled rotors can work to expel any built up gas and debris, but mindful of the quality of any drilled rotors you might consider.

    It’s important to remember that once a rotor has started to crack, they pose an enormous risk to your safety and must be replaced as soon as possible. You also need to be careful with drilled rotors as if they’ve not been manufactured properly, cracking can become a very likely possibility.     When talking disc brakes, as with any safety component – where expectations must be exceeded – there can be no shortcuts. Drivers the world over demand DBA products for consistent, reliable and superior performance.

    DBA ensures this by engineering discs that are far superior to generic and aftermarket counterparts. How, do we do this? DBA sets the bar in quality, tolerances, premium metals and manufacturing equipment that delivers premium quality disc brake rotors.

    After 30 years of manufacturing, design and development with race teams around the world, DBA (Disc Brakes Australia) developed a proprietary cast iron formulation (XG-150) for exclusive use in all of its premium performance disc brake rotors.

    DBA’s grey iron is rich in carbon and alloyed to produce excellent thermal characteristics, which is a key factor in the production of the casting. This is combined with our patented Kangaroo Paw ventilation design.

    With a supersaturated solution of carbon in an iron matrix, the excess carbon precipitates out in the form of graphite flakes. The structural distribution of these graphite flakes provide excellent thermal properties, increasing the thermal shock resistance.

    Also, when combined with DBA’s TSP process it allows the material to cope with rapid thermal cycling with core-heat levels reaching approximately 700oC and above.

    The DBA developed TSP™ process, stress relieves the cast iron during the manufacturing process.

    And unlike any other cast irons, the XG-150 formulation was developed to respond to the TSP process resulting in a rotor that is ideal for heavy duty braking and suitable for motorsport applications.

    Mr ‘Sideways’ himself, David Sieders, has extended his V8 Utes Racing Series lead after taking out the final heat of the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400.

    Making the most of his front row start, the Mango Credit Commodore pilot achieved a lights-to-flag finish after 11 laps of hard racing.

    The win didn’t come easy though, with Craig Dontas initially overtaking Sieders on the front straight, only to surrender his position at turn 1, before continuing to pile on the pressure throughout the entire race.

    “It was great to extend the lead in the championship, and also a bonus that I was joined on the podium by my teammate Craig Dontas,” Sieders said.

    “This makes us back-to-back Townsville V8 Ute round winners, so overall it was a pretty good day for the Sieders Racing Team.”

    It proved to be an eventful race for Kim Jane who retired after making contact with returning, three-time series winner, Ryal Harris.

    Ryal suffered a mechanical drama in the early stages, which saw both himself and Nathan Pretty – who was running 4th – retire from the race.

    Mason Barbera also joined the non-finishers when he came to a halt on circuit at turn 3, while Supercars co-driver Steve Owen finished Sunday’s heats 9th and 8th as he completed his one-off appearance in the category.

    A round win for Sieders has seen him open up a 70 point lead over Hansford in the series standings.

    The V8 Utes Racing Series will head to Mount Panorama for the next round from October 6-9.

    We reported not too long ago that long-time supporters of DBA, COX Customer Centre, were campaigning a pair of Golf’s in the Tsukuba Super Battle, one of which (a Golf GTE) was the first Plug-In-Hybrid vehicle ever entered.

    It brings us great pleasure to announce that COX are still pursuing their Golf race program, fresh off the back of last year’s success at Tsukuba, with plenty more to come for the race enthusiasts.

    COX have recently displayed some of their hardware – including a car (Golf 7R) of theirs – during a Volkswagen Day at Odaiba in Tokyo, and the team are planning to run the Golf 7R with the corresponding DBA brake discs later this month.

    Weights for each disc can be found below:

    The opening of season 2016 for four-time national Class champions, Pedders Racing, would begin with the unveil of a striking new #86 livery, taking a starring role view with a view on the main straight in the cold and shimmering morning sun at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. As the covers came off, the Motorsports Training Australia (MTA) crew were present, their minds ticking over strategy and preparations as the first event Friday of the inaugural Australian Production Car Series had five on track sessions bearing down.

    With the lead up including gearbox, clutch, exhaust and sensor changes, the now black and red 86 headed out onto the southern tarmac for practice one with Turpie at the wheel. A twenty minute session unfolded with the team keen to ensure all pre-event work was a success, #86 rolling back into pit lane without concern. With just 90 minutes before second practice, it was all about pit stop and refueling practice for the fresh MTA crew, while the experienced Pedders crew completed maintenance checks once more.

    Practice two had Phillips return to the driver’s seat to take on the 20 plus grid of production entries, feeling confident with cold but dry conditions, going on to take the Pedders 86 inside the top ten times to impress sponsor partners who had made the drive south to be part of the action packed day. Another 90 minutes of set down maintenance, temperatures, wear assessments and fuel burn discussions, and the call came for Turpie to get back in the seat for practice three, another top ten on the timesheets.

    Qualifying saw Turpie again take the reins to work on bringing down the times to gain the best possible starting position, pushing to mix it up with the higher performance classes from race start. With 20 minutes of the session down and the times remaining consistent for #86, Turpie was brought into to pit lane for a complete pit stop practice for the student crew under pressure conditions. Fuel in, Phillips taking control, just minutes remained in the session, but the value of learning would be achieved alongside the value of a quality qualifying position. Turpie had done enough to secure Class D’s pole position, and tenth Outright for the first race of the production endurance season. Then the drama returned.

    Following the year’s racing debut at Mount Panorama where a ride height question had the exhaust, diff cooler and floorpan ‘modified’ to a revised variant of the long-standing regulations, further modifications were made during the weeks at Motorsports Training Australia with brackets designed and applied, but the changes had created a high risk of the headers pulling away, a risk the student crew weren’t willing to take. This had left one section of exhaust hanging slightly lower than allowable in the regulations, the one check that had not been completed, and the one issue that rendered the Pedders 86 with an exclusion from qualifying results.

    In a saving grace, the height issue had been queried with the category’s technical advisor weeks prior, and with Bathurst queries fresh in the mind, team management had spent the day asking for the height to be checked knowing the undercar work that had gone on during pre-event preparations in case work was needed once more. It was. Scrutineering discussions unfolded and with a simple bracket fix that should have been discovered and noted after first practice when first queried with technical staff, the decision was made that Pedders Racing had more than earned the Class pole and top ten start.

    Ending the opening day, the MTA crew took in the re-fuelers briefing while committed sponsor partners climbed into the passenger seat for a ride around the picturesque Phillip Island circuit. Minute after minute, lap after lap, the Pedders 86 welcomed sponsors, officials and volunteer crew on board to experience some of the excitement that comes with taking on the tarmac.

    A later start for the Australian Production Car Series crews on the first ever race day Saturday for the series, #86 had been put to rest wheels down and ready for the flying ten minute warm up session. New tyres on to be scrubbed ahead of the four hours of racing, Phillips took to the circuit for a final run and pre-race checks, returning with laps under the belt and a clean bill of motoring health.

    With pit bays marked, neighbouring team strategies discussed, a final refuel complete, and communication systems tested, it would be Turpie heading onto the grid to make his first race start in more than four events.

    Lining up on row five, position ten, the surroundings were filled with Holden’s and Renaults, BMWs and Fords, the grid at the ready to kick off the season with the Australian Production Car Series 4 Hour.

    The opening laps saw the field settle into rhythm, Turpie pushing the 86 from the onset to keep the battle with higher performance class entries, putting down consistent times to gradually build a buffer over the class competition, the Nameless Performance short shifter an addition creating even greater driver enjoyment. As time and Safety Car sessions ticked away as the field began to grow thinner, Turpie challenged for track position using the 86’s exceptional braking capabilities to hold strong against the horsepower of his competitors to stay on the lead lap for almost the entirety of his opening two hour stint.

    As strategy of driver time and fuel burn had made it, the Pedders 86 was due to have one lone stop in the four hours of competition, and as the clock ticked over, in ideal time the call was made to bring #86 in for a refuel and driver change. The Motorsports Training Australia crew flew into action on lap 51, a fast refuel, a swift driver change, and Phillips had the 86 heading back out on track in perfect time and position.

    Having moved as high as sixth outright as the pit stops unfolded, #86 entered and exited pit lane in tenth position, the comfortable class lead not affected by the swift stop. Entering the third hour of racing, Phillips was not only battling higher classed Renaults and BMWs, but the weather, as the rain and fog closed in around the island. Armed with a rear wheel drive that wanted to step out under power, Phillips was forced to back off and watch the times slow, it was now all about survival.

    Rising to eighth outright, Pedders Racing were looking good for a top ten result, the weather inconsistent, the ever-reliable 86 proving its worth in tyre wear, while the Winmax brake pads were entering their tenth racing hour with outstanding durability intact, and the end was drawing near. As Phillips got back on the power, a few smooth moves kept the movement through lap traffic underway, a now consistent gap to the entry ahead and the competitor behind, as the lap counter ticked past 100, it was now the dash to the flag.

    102 laps, one pit stop, one set of tyres, ten students and volunteers on crew, four hours of racing and Pedders Racing brought it home in an impressive ninth outright, with a Class D race and round victory in the bag to begin another season of endurance in the modern version of the renowned old days racing, the changing era of production cars.

    #86 now returns to Wodonga for the dedicated Motorsports Training Australia student crew to complete post-race maintenance reviews, and to prepare the victor for its next outing at Sydney Motorsport Park in early July. Just four weeks separate the opening two events, and there’s always room for improvement, so we leave it here as the MTA students develop ideas, use initiative and interpret data as Pedders Racing gear up for Round 2 of the Australian Production Car Series and hope for further successes this season.

    RENNSPORT USA 2015, MAZDA RACEWAY, LAGUNA SECA

    “The first time we went to Rennsport USA was back in October 2011; with Geoff Morgan, David Withers and myself,” remembers Peter Boylan, the owner of a black 1974 Porsche Carrera.

    And it’s no small honour, either. For a bunch of Australians to be invited to drive the hallowed tarmac of the famed Laguna Seca circuit with some of the finest Porsches in America, and from across the globe. It’s the stuff of automotive dreams.

    “That’s definitely why, when they said they’d like us to come back again for 2015, I found it an even greater honour to be invited for a second time,” Peter divulges.

    “Of course it was the first time I’ve had slicks on the Carrera and the objective wasn’t to win, but the point was to enjoy ourselves. At my age I’m proud to say I’m still racing, enjoying myself and it’s a big thrill.”

    “We out-braked them in the corners, but they blasted us on the straight,” laughs Peter. “They’re a great bunch of people and we love racing with the Americans. They gave us an area and all our own space. And couldn’t have been more welcoming.”

    Peter’s good friend Geoff Morgan, who also came along for the trip for a second time, shared those same sentiments.

    “To be invited to participate in Rennsport is a great thrill and honour,” begins Geoff Morgan. “But to also do it at Laguna Seca is incredible. I had to wait for reality to hit, before the big challenge of Peter Boylan, David Withers, Chris Stannard and I all having to get organized and co-ordinated. Getting there (from Australia to America, with cars and supplies) is a story in and of itself!”

    When everything fell into place however, Geoff was stunned at the presentation of the track.

    “The set up at the track was mega! It looked awesome and the first day consisted of coaching school and track familiarization. The excitement was up for the first! By practice 2 we improved, but had a lot of work to get the car working well, as we were running on slicks we had never used before,” explains Geoff.

    “Seeing as we didn’t complete all the qualifying laps – which we later discovered is mandatory – we ended up in 30th Place on the grid! Oh well, I thought, we were there to have fun. I was next to a beautiful car: the Sunoco RSR, which was gorgeous. I wondered why he was so far back,” Geoff recalls.

    “We caught each other’s eye and gave the thumbs up, and then off we went. Cars were everywhere into turn one,” Geoff laughs as he elaborates. “I went down the outside of plenty of them and then proceeded to dice with the Sunoco car nose to tail and side-by-side for the rest of the place, passing a few RSR’s and 935’s and generally causing havoc. We finished 16th with the Sunoco car 17th. After the race I was regaling the team about the duel, highlighting the great battle, only to have the Sunoco driver come strolling into our pits to share a great laugh about it all. That’s really what Rennsport is all about, which is why I love it so much,” Geoff praises.

    RENNSPORT AUSTRALIA 2016, SYDNEY MOTORSPORT PARK, EASTERN CREEK

    After the success of Australia’s own, inaugural Rennsport Festival in 2013, Porsche once again rolled out their welcome wagon to return the festival back to Australia’s shores in 2016.

    “It was once again a great success and the organizers were quite happy with the numbers,” says Peter, who was taking part in his 991 GT3 Cup race car.

    “We did quite well with some solid P6 and Top 10 finishes although a clutch problem affected the last start and from starting 6th we ended up in 14th. I’m still settling in to the new car as it’s quite a bit different to drive than the 997. A fair bit more tyre and a lot more power, with clutch-less paddle shifters as well.”

    “All in all,” Peter begins, “It was a great weekend out, and funnily enough, we even had people coming up to us saying if we’re heading over to Rennsport USA again to let them know, so they can come along and support us Aussies!”

    Unfortunately Geoff fell ill just before the Rennsport Australia festival, although his car was still proudly out on display throughout the weekend, showcasing a new livery sponsor – PODIUM.

    “We setup the PODIUM organization as a private investment consortium to support young drivers,” Geoff explains. “Hence the acronym, which stands for Promoting Overseas Drivers In Universal Motorsport.”

    At the moment, PODIUM is focussed on supporting Joseph (Joey) Mawson who is racing against the likes of Mick Schumacher (Michael’s son) in Formula 4 in Europe.

    “It’s a private group of people investing in the young talent of Australia and overseas, and the hope is that in the future others can come on-board with their own investments,” Geoff adds.

    Strangely, brake upgrades are often overlooked when it comes to 4WD’s. They’re simple, cost-effective and work extremely well to improve performance and safety, but regardless they’re often shuffled down to the bottom of the modification list of many budding 4WD enthusiasts.
    At DBA we take great pride in not only manufacturing quality products, but also showing how and why they work. Which is why we decided to put one of our most straightforward brake disc upgrades to the test, on the much beloved 200 Series Toyota Landcruiser. Nothing overtly complicated, just a standardized emergency braking test from 100km/h to standstill, with both an OEM brake setup, and then DBA’s disc upgrade – without changing the physical size (diameter) of the discs themselves, or the calipers.

    For the sake of not only parity, but also accuracy, the tests were carried out to the standard of the German AMS test, where 10 full ABS brake stops are conducted from 100km/h to 0km/h in quick succession, to measure the effectiveness of temperature over stopping power.
    A V-Box data collection system was fitted, with thermocouples attached at the rotors for collection of disc temperature. The V-Box was chosen as the data it produces is all-encompassing, logging everything from stopping distances in metres to stopping time, brake application, vehicle speed and much more where the metal meets the meat.

    Not wanting to miss any details, the 200-Series Landcruiser was first taken across the weighbridge to uncover the specific amount of unladen weight we were dealing with – approximately 3 tonnes, as it so turned out.

    Then came the first test with the standard OEM brake discs and pads. The Landcruiser was subjected to 10 brake stops from 100km/h to standstill, in quick succession. Not surprisingly, the big Toyota suffered some serious brake fade, progressively growing the distance to stop and utterly cooking the brakes in the process. Braking performance was quite severely compromised. By the time the Landcruiser arrived back at the workshop to have the upgrade fitted, the OEM brakes had revealed that they were a white-hot mess, while the brake pad material had decayed significantly into a crumbling pile of fried charcoal. They were no longer serviceable by any means.

    The DBA upgrade was then fitted to the Landcruiser, consisting of 4x4 Survival Series T3 4000 slotted discs, DS Performance brake pads and Ferodo Performance DOT5.1 brake fluid. The DBA 4000 T3 slotted DBA discs are made for tackling more advanced braking situations particularly when hauling around heavy weight and 4WDing, and they feature DBA’s patented Kangaroo Paw vane ventilation system, which alone outperforms straight vane rotors by up to 20% via increased heat dissipation.
    Once again the 200 Series ‘Cruiser completed 10 brake stops from 100km/h to standstill, in quick succession. It became immediately evident that not only was the Landcruiser pulling up consistently better, but it was performing increasingly well the hotter the brakes got. No brake fade was evident by the 10th and final stop.

    After the test, the team went straight for the V-Box data to solidify the seat-of-pants improvement and discovered that the DBA upgrade was able to consistently decelerate the Landcruiser at an additional 1.52 metres per second, for a total 100km/h to standstill time of 4.3 seconds on average.
    The DBA upgrade also shortened the stopping distance by 6.5 metres on average, and at the time that the DBA setup was at standstill, the OEM setup was still travelling at 37km/h in the unladen Landcruiser – which is where the real difference is found.
    An unladen 3 tonne vehicle hitting a stationary object at 37km/h is not only a hefty hit, but add in extra weight like additional passengers, a boat trailer, caravan, camping gear or a hauled load, and it becomes evident why a brake upgrade is worth its weight in gold. It’s a safety improvement we’re proud of, and it cements why DBA upgrades are used on 4WD’s, heavy armoured fleets, road trains and military applications across the globe.

    Congratulations to Damon and OSCAR PRO for their recent breakthrough times at Zhuhai International Circuit.

    Running a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 with DBA 5000 series rotors, Damon once again walked away in 1st Place with the Fastest Lap record - 1:43:914 - and also as the 2.0L - 3.0L AWD Class Champion.

    Both Kim Jane and Mason Barbera have taken a race win each in Round 2 of the V8 Utes Racing Series at Phillip Island.

    Having qualified on pole, Jane narrowly beat Craig Dontas to turn one in the opening race, with the duo high-fiving mirrors on the way around. Despite Dontas' best efforts across the race, Jane managed to hold onto his place across the remainder of the race.

    David Sieders dropped from third to fifth on the opening lap, but re-passed Mason Barbera on lap 3 when the 18 year-old got loose off Stoner Corner and slowed excessively on approach to the hairpin.

    He pressured Nathan Pretty on the 10th and final lap but could not find a way back up to third position.

    The Race 2 reverse grid proceeded with Richard Mork making one of the greatest jump starts in many years, throttling away before the red lights had even begun to illuminate.

    Barbera seized this opportunity and became the effective race leader when he emerged in second from the Southern Loop on the opening lap and drove away to a maiden 5.5s win over the 10 laps, after Mork was expectantly black-flagged.

    Sieders took second after an impressive final lap battle with Nathan Pretty which saw the pair running side-by-side from Doohan Corner to the Hairpin before Sieders prevailed.

    To end the weekend's racing, Kim Jane secured himself pole position for the final race and ultimately placing third, with the final round results finishing as below:

    Sieders%20clinches%20another%20in%20TAS%

    David Sieders dominated the final V8 Utes Racing Series round at Symmons Plains to clinch his third race win of the 2016 season.

    The Holden pilot managed to snatch the lead from pole-sitter Ryan Hansford at Turn 2 after the flag dropped.

    Hansford kept pressure on Sieders throughout the following 21 laps in the hope a mistake would be made, but the Mango Credit-backed racer held firm to secure the chequered flag.

    Shadowing Sieders and Hansford was Nathan Pretty in 3rd, while 2014 champion Kris Walton recovered from a slow start to come home in 4th.

    The only incident of note occurred on lap 17 when Mason Barbera ran into the back of Kim Jane at Turn 6, which saw the former receive a drive-through penalty.

    Hansford’s second place saw him take the round win while Sieders extended his lead in the championship.

    The V8 Utes Racing Series heads to Phillip Island for the third round of the season from April 15-17.

    Heat management is, indisputably, perhaps the most significant contributor to rotor wear and outright braking performance. Each time the brakes are applied, the friction generated by the pad surfaces rubbing against the rotor faces creates unfathomable heat. Aggressive driving, hauling a trailer or heavy loads, and steep incline/decline driving can all cause brake temperatures to soar.

    Naturally, this is a huge killer of brakes, both physically and from a performance standpoint. At relatively mild operating temperatures (less than 400F) brake pads work effectively with abrasive friction. However at higher temperatures, the pads themselves can transfer a thin layer of material onto the surface of the rotor. As the rotor then begins to heat up, this abrasive friction transforms purely to adherent friction. This type of friction is how most racing pads are designed work and also explains why they generally don’t stop well under cold conditions. Although keep in mind, brakes are a general consumable for a race car, and they are maintained at a high, yet non-excessive temperature via supplemental cooling with ducting.

    On your street car, once the rotors continue to get excessively hot, material from the pad will essentially liquefy and ‘glaze’ the surface of the rotor, compromising stopping effectiveness. But just when you thought that was bad enough, as the pads rub on the now-glazed surface they will get even hotter until the heat localizes to just one area of the rotor. At temperatures around 1150F this effectively changes the cell structure of the metal into hard brittle patches (known as cementite). These spots fail to wear down like the regular iron surrounding the patches, so they become raised and before you know it you’ve got a rather annoying brake pulsation or shudder.

    The braking performance of the car will be quite negatively affected once brake fade via high temperature sets in. While this loss of stopping power can be caused by the aforementioned friction fade, mechanical fade or fluid fade can also result in the same outcome. Brake fade can be significantly reduced by appropriate equipment and materials design, quality brake selection, as well as good cooling.

    Vented, drilled and slotted rotors like those which DBA manufacture are the key to controlling the dissipation of all that thermal energy. As the rotor is effectively a giant heat sink, the number, spacing and shape of the cooling fins in vented rotors alone, is essential in voiding all of that built up heat; as some designs are more efficient than others. Drilled rotors on the other hand help keep the temp’ below the point where heat spots begin to form, while also helping to prevent pad glazing.

    High temperatures are not ideal but sustained high temperatures are the most detrimental to your braking system. It has been evidenced that temporarily raised brake temperatures which are steadily allowed to cool naturally will return to normal functioning, while permanent rotor damage can be done with continuous temperature abuse – to the point where warped rotors are unable to be machined flat, due to such deep heat patches. It is also important after a ‘hot stop’, not to clamp down on the brakes. This can deposit friction from the pad onto the hot rotor in just one spot, elevating the friction effect solely in that area and beginning the cycle of heat spots and uneven wear.

    Following a successful opening round of the 2016 V8 Utes Series at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, V8 Supercars will take on the Confederation of Australian Motorsport Category Management Agreement for the 2016 V8 Utes Series.

    Former holders of the CMA, Australian V8 Ute Racing Pty Ltd, went into voluntary administration in February, with V8 Supercars requested to take on a short-term caretaker role.

    A grid of 17 V8 Utes raced at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide under this caretaker arrangement, CAMS has since ratified V8 Supercars application to take on the category management full-time for the 2016 season and beyond.

    This will see the V8 Utes category continue as a V8 Supercars Support Category across eight rounds in the 2016 season.

    V8 Supercars Chief Executive James Warburton said bringing the V8 Utes into the V8 Supercars portfolio made sense for the category and its competitors.

    “We have made no secret of our desire to manage the category long-term. It’s been a very professionally run series for many years and we are keen to develop it in a new direction and ensure its continued success for years to come.”

    “The V8 Utes provide an action-packed, high-octane brand of racing that aligns perfectly with our core brand principles. It’s a great fit, and a fantastic support category loved by fans nationwide.”
