  1. Sorry, what i meant was to wire up vtc using an rpm switch (ie// like how ppl wire up vtec with an rpm switch).

my mind thinks differently from my fingers lol.

wtf? "VTEC yo" in a skyline?

VCT (variable cam timing) is slightly different to VTEC (which is more an on/off thing depending on what RPM you're at).

If you were to properly do it, you'd want a circuit that feeds an emulated VCT signal to the ECU. I'm assuming the PFC dosen't work with 1993 R33 ECU's then as the RB25's in the initial batch didn't have VCT.

  2. Thanks for answering!

The reason I am asking is because of my current engine setup.

    1989 R32 GTS-T Chassis

    Motor - RB25DET

    Wiring Harness - RB20DET

    ECU / Management Being used right now - Z32 Mines + SAFC2 + AVCR

Currently VTC is not hooked up because RB20 harness never had vtc.

I'm told I could hook it up using a 'vtec' switch to activate vtc during certain rpms.

SO, if I decide to go with POWER FC management, I could in theory get the RB25DET version, and wire up the VTC correct???

  3. Hey guys,

I have an RB25DET w/ the RB25 tranny all swapped into my R32. Clutch is an ATS twin plate carbon.

A month ago my pedal started to make a squeeking noise every time i pressed the clutch down, and when it let it back up.

Last week, my clutch pedal bracket snapped while driving! I brought it to my guys' shop and the fixed it. Welded it back together and reinforced the s$%t out of it.

It was quite an easy fix, put it back in and cha-ching! It's working again.

A few days later, the squeeking noise came back. Now my main concern right now is that the squeeking noise is associated with the bracket breaking. Would that be true????

Or is the noise just from the stress of having a heavy twin plate ATS clutch??

    [edit]

Oh, i forgot to mention i am not talking about the plates chattering.

It's actually noise coming from the pedal.

IE// if you have the car off and step on the clutch pedal, it would make a creeking / squeeking noise.

  4. very nice car mate, a gtr lip spoiler would top it off a treat, also the G banger on the rear view is all class :D

Thanks for the generous praises guys :)

R32gts-t: Hilarious that you noticed that! hhahahahahaahahhahah

I have some really NICE updated pictures but I can't post them yet. The photographer is trying to get the pics into a magazine (unsure which one yet), i'll see if he has some nice ones he doesnt plan on using...

  5. Hey guys,

A few months ago, my car was running a 8PSI spring in the external Tial wastegate. The Apexi AVCR was set to 1 Bar. I started to notice that the DEFI gauge would start registering higher and higher numbers. So recently I dropped a 1 Bar spring into the Tial, and turned OFF the AVCR, to see if it would stop boost creep since Apex AVCR are known for spiking.

Now in theory, the car shouldn't boost higher than 1 Bar since the external gate has a 1 Bar spring correct?

After I put the 1 Bar spring in, the car started to misfire and go bang bang bang at high boost high RPM ( view thread here: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=127752 )

Ontop of the misfiring problem, my DEFI gauge started to show higher and higher numbers. First it was 1.2 bar, then 1.25, then 1.3, then 1.35, and now it shows 1.5!!

Im also aware that DEFI boost gauges sometimes show higher numbers, but being off by 0.5 bar is a little much.

Anyone have a clue what's going on???

My RB25 is internally stock, but i do have supporting mods for the power i dyno'd at.

Another thing is that i feel that my 440 Injectors are maxing out. Will be going much bigger in a few weeks.

    Thanks for the help guys.

  6. Hey guys,

Thank you VERY much for all the input.

Well a couple days ago we started to play around with the spark plugs / coils.

I replaced my HKS plugs with some NGK heat range 6 (yea i know, too cheap to want to foul expensive plugs right now). Siliconed and cleaned the coils.

I think it was cylinder 2 or 3, the coil looked like it was arcing outwards.

Took it for a spin, 1st gear and 2nd gear was OK. mid to high RPM in 3rd, the car still goes BANG BANG.

I'm thinking of picking up the Splitfire coilpacks, we'll see if that helps any.

  7. I'll be pulling the plugs today and check the coils as well.

I remember you questioning my setup and power in a previous thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...23697&st=20

Yes, 400WHP is possible with a GT30R on a RB25... dyno sheet speaks for itself. Just cause you've never seen it / heard of that much power at 1bar, doesn't mean it's not possible

Yea, power is at the topend...

    49889675.dynosheet.jpg

    Plugs in good condition?

    Coils working?

    side note 604 - 14psi/gt30/rb25 300rwkw = impossible

  8. Holycrap you know what, I was JUST ABOUT TO POST THIS about my car!

    I have an RB25DET w/ GT30R in my R32 skyline. Running 1bar wastegate spring. I make about 400whp.

This has happened to me as well since last Sunday.

    Normal driving, it's ok.

Once I hit high boost and the wastegate starts dumping, I get a popping / banging sound.

I am thinking that it is misfiring, possibily bad sparkplugs.

You should also put a wideband on it and see how the AFR is.

I'll be playing around with it today, i'll see what I find out.

  9. I'm assuming both the kaaz and tomei should be pretty similiar in nature then?

Being chattery, unfriendly to drive daily?

HRthirtyone and the97skyline, can you guys elaborate on some annoying daily situations?

I drive my R32 with twin plate carbon ATS clutch. I find it actually very streetable. With a 2 way, do you guys find it fustrating driving in parking lots, or driving up hill in intersections turning while in the rain?? :yucky:

    Thanks guys!

This info really helps me out choosing a correct lsd for my application

  10. Hey guys,

Just wondering how many of you have some experience with the tomei 2 way lsd.

Just looking for how aggressive this particular lsd is incomparison to kaaz, cusco, nismo lsds.

Noisey when driving slow / turning?

    Locks easily on decel?

I've found a great deal on them from a store in Canada so i need some quick info on this :P

    Thanks a lot

  11. Hey Guys/Gals,

Got my car painted a few weeks ago. The paintjob used to be Satin Black, maybe some of you probably have already seen my car.

The new paint is a custom mix, Alsa Corp Ice Pearl Tri-stage Black. I DONT have any nice pictures of it yet, since my camera cannot capture how "Sparkley" the paint actually looks. You can barely see the blingy'ness of the paint, but u can sorty see it on the fenders glimmering.

Body kit is Final Konnexion first contact.

    Enjoy :)

P.S. The model is Mercedes Terrell. Cheers!

  12. I'll try to dig and see if i can find the sheet with the AFR's.

I remember it not being a graph, but a print out sheet with AFR's at certain rpms and boost.

The problem right now is my wierd engine harness setup.

I'm using my stock RB20DET engine harness connected to the RB25DET. Since the pins on RB25 ecus are different than RB20 harness, i opted for a Z32 turbo ecu that plugged right in.

Besides the fact that i'm missing VVT, the car runs awesome and AFR numbers are good. Although, lowend power is teh sucks.

What ECU / standalone management can I run to control the RB25 on my RB20 harness?

Will I have to go and source an RB25 engine harness?

If you were wondering why im not running an rb25 harness in the first place, it was because the place i bought the motor from did not have the harness with the motor (scored the motor for a crzy price).

i still dont get the graph, the more i look at it the more odd it seems.

On one side its either been deliberately tuned to be laggy, ie no ignition to get it going...

Yet, on the other side its making a reasonable amount more top end power than anyone else has before @ 1 bar with the 550/600hp Garretts...

Hmm.. Cefiro, do you have a dyno sheet with the AFR's on it?

Also first thing i would be doing is getting a better ECU.

If your on a budget and you have to choose between cams and ECU, ECU is the pick there

  13. Hey BezerkR32!

Which tomei cam is best for my current setup listed? Lash type 256 with 8.5 lift?

I don't plan to boost higher than 1.25bar, and i'm probably going to keep the stock redline, until i can afford to dump more money

My block is stock at the moment.

My current plan was to buy and install the following:

Tomei camshafts, cam gears, 1.2 headgasket, timing belt, and your new recommendation for valve springs.

I'm also trying to figure out the part numbers on Tomei website.

If I'm going with the PROCAM + Adjust pulley (Alminium IN,EX) package, wouldn't the package be specific to the RB25DET? Being that the cam gears will fit on the camshafts? Do I specifically have to tell them that I want an RB20 inlet cam? **just a lil confused**

Lastly, for the Valve Springs, should I go with the 8.8mm lift?

EDIT: I forgot to mention my engine harness / ecu setup. My car is an 89 HCR32 GST-T. The engine is an 1994 RB25DET using the stock rb20 engine harness. vvt is not hooked up. injectors are top fed. The ECU is from a Z32, Mines Tuned. Using piggy back SAFC2 to control af.

Is vvt THAT important? What kind of performance am i losing here??

    Thanks for the help!!!

Cams will fatten up mid range depending on what you run, 256 with 8.5mm lift are most common on Rb25 and work well. but you didnt mention anything about replacing valve springs, highly recomended to do this before installing camshafts, as standard springs are at their limit at about 22psi at 7000rpm. When you oder cams order RB20 inlet cam so you can fit adjustable cam gear.
  14. Hey guys,

Here my current setup that dyno'd at 403whp on an RB25DET w/ garrett GT30R, avc-r is turned off and using a 1 bar spring on the external tial gate.

Internally stock, but i am in the process of buying tomei cams, and 1.2 headgasket.

My dyno is pretty close to phee's.

You guys think the cams would aid in boosting earlier?

  15. 10 inch rims on an R32?? Easy bro... just check out mine ;). And even better, it's on a GTS-T R32 not an R lol

    Skyline model = 1989 R32 GTS-T

Wheel diameter = 17 inch Front / 18 inch Rear

Wheel width = 10 inch wide Front / 10.5 inch wide Rear

    Wheel offset = hehehe

    Tyre size = 225/45/17 , 235/40/18

Modifications to fit = Rolled / pulled the living hell outta the front & back.

I can bet you a million bucks that 215's can fit on 10 inch wide rims, u just gotta know how to get em on.

    48093346.jpg

10inch will need 265's, 255 may fit with some major stretch factor.

I'd be very interested to see some pics of anyone's R32 with 10 inch rims

    Regards

    Andrew

  16. :)

One thing is that there's some clearance issues with 18's on the front since I really enjoy having the car slammed super low to the ground.

Also running staggered it makes the rear rims and the rear of the car look bigger / wider. I think the best part of a skyline is the "rear end" lol.

Damn nice car man! The old rims were cool and the new ones are just damnn cool!! :P

How come you always get 17s for the front and 18s for the back?? Any special reason?

  17. I had a chance to post up my old car pics a while back if you guys remember.

The old rims were WORK Emotion CR Kai in Bronze. Front were 17x9 and rear 18x9.5

    The new rims are:

WORK VS-KF's with new Kumho Ecsta SPT rubber. The spokes are Burnt Black, lip is chrome.

    Front 17x10

    Rear 18x10.5

    Front Dish: 100mm

    Rear Dish: 120mm

Special Thanks To: KEEP Performance Lab for doing all the work on the car. They had to re-roll all four fenders to fit the new rims.

The bodywork to smooth out and paint all 4 fenders is obviously unfinished. I'll probably wait until my new bumper arrives to repaint everything at once.

Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

    All comments welcome :D
