  1. Thanks frankxy, I think I know what the problem is now. When I have the ac on and i change the mode of the airflow from head and feet (two arrows) to feet only I get the clicking noise. That means when it's closing the top vents it's getting stuck somewhere. The vent does close because there is no air flow there but the sound is annoying. So i will get it checked out.

Would appreciate if somebody can comment about the steering column release lever.

  2. Welcome to the Skyline world!

Standard boost is 7psi but I am told it is safe to run 12-13 with standard intercooler.

The output after the mods depends on the tuner, if the person knows what he is going then your output should be good on the dyno. I goto a guy in Granville Sydney.

I am going to get a few things done to mine soon. Turbo back exhaust(dump pipe) with High flow cat and a boost controller. I will run all this with standard air intake and intercooler. It won't cost me an arm and a leg but should get me up to 180rwkws.

  3. My skyline used to give me around 350-400 kms from a full tank with little thrashing and mostly freeway driving.

But I got it checked and found that the crank angle sensor has a little gear which was worn out and because of this incorrect information about the position of the pistons was sent to the ECU. But when i got that fixed now I can get 450+ from a full tank with some thrashing. So roughly 10.5-11 litres per 100km.

    Love it.

So if you are getting a shit mileage from your R33 I would have it checked.

Goto Autotech Engineering in Granville for those who live in Sydney.

  4. My car makes this clicking sound from the dashboard. It seems to come from behind the two aircon vents in the middle of the dashboard. Only sounds on when the car is started and/or the air con fan is on. If i start is without the fan on it doesn't make any sound but when I turn it on, it makes clicking noise 4-5 times and then stops.

Is this a relay of some sort behind the vent or somewhere else? Its been happening for the past two weeks on and off. Now its a bit more regular.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to open the dashboard panel (the complete piece which goes right hand vent and to the stereo/ac side) from the driver side by first removing the gear box panel. But the middle part is stuck because of the stearing column. I have seen an electrician pull the stearing column down by releasing the black lever underneath the steering column. How the hell do you release it? I can't see any sort of a locking mechanism on it. If somebody can tell me this then i can have a look myself and try to diagnose what is going wrong.

    Thanks again.

  5. Depends on the condition of the car mate. When I was looking at cars I saw some skylines with 60-70K Kms but just looking at it I could tell that it was carelessly kept and driven. Paint was chipped in many places, scratches on side skirts and bumpers. Even with all that it was priced around $22K. What a load of crap.

Pay what feels right to you. 10-12K doesn't seem too much if the car looks and drives great. 200+Kms makes no difference to me.

  6. I am starting to hear a noise from under the body, when releasing the clutch. It sounds like the release spring attached to the clutch.

I have not gotten under the car yet to check it out, but let me know if you have any pointers.

The sound only comes when releasing the clutch wether in gear or neutral.

  7. Everyweek, I put about 40-42 litres of petrol and lasts me for 350-400Kms, so it's close to 10-11litres per 100Kms. I have never run the car down to the red light to get a more accurate fuel economy from a FULL tank.

However, the backfire is only occassional like once a week and normally happens when I shift from 2nd to 3rd around 4500 rpms.

Also, about 2months ago, I had full injector service done. But is used to backfire before that as well, so i don't think I can blame the mechanic.

  8. I see........

So how does the turbo "spin" when it's not under boost?

The idea of having the motor idle is to keep oil/water running through the turbo to cool it down.

Also be made aware that turbo timers are not legal in all states.  B)

Ok if the engine is running there is air going through the exhaust, so I think the turbo would still be spinning not at high rpms though. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Also if turbo timers are illegal then why would Insurance companies insure the vehicle with such a part??

I believe it is illegal to leave a vehicle when the engine is still running with the turbo timer, because it is considered dangerous. I don't know why but the reason is that if the car jumps into GEAR "Somehow" it can hurt somebody. :(

    Can anybody verify this??

  9. I would also suggest getting a smaller car in the beginning to get some experience and then move to a Skyline.

You won't regret it. Also I think a new P Plater's insurance would be over $2K on a Skyline.

I had a Toyota camry 88 model before. Great car, safe and economical. Especially now when the fuel prices are going through the roof.

I guess the Toyota Corolla Twin Cam suggestion is pretty good.

  10. Hi,

You've probably guessed by now what this is about. I would like to know what are the specs of the Rims cause I only have stock Rims and I wanna change them to 18".

Any suggestions on where to buy (in SYDNEY)?

Is Tempe Tyres in Tempe any good??

    Thanks in advance

  11. Please recommend place where to get a good intercooler for a good price. I am also looking to do the same mods. (POD, Intercooler, 2 Stage Boost Controller & dump pipe)

wools - you found a place yet!! maybe we can get a discount if we get both our cars done from the same place.

I found a place but the guy wants to charge me 5Gs for all the above. 2G for intercooler, which I think is TOO MUCH??

  12. Don't believe the odometer reading at all? The car's interior/exterior will often tell you how many kms it has done. Most dealer cars show around 65-70K. I bought my car around 2.5 months back and when I went to dealer cars they were priced like $27K upwards and were not in very clean condition.

Finally, I found one of a private dealer which had 85K on the odo and mate, the car had been driven with care. I could tell by looking at the interior and exterior. It drove well and did not sound like it had been thrashed at all. It's a 96 model stock car. I took it to a performace shop straight away and the machanic test drove it and said mate "this is not a lemon, it has done genuine 85K".

So far it's running beautifully, touch-wood.

As you know it's a 6 cylinder so even 90-100K on the odo is not too much, if it's kept with care.

    Good Luck!!

  13. Where is the Low Fuel Indicator Light in the R33 GTST Series II? I have run the needle down to "E" and it never comes on. Does this model have one?? It's got to!!

In the dash I have following indicators. some are ECU, OIL, Seat Belt etc. Is it one of these??

    _______[ ] [ ]__________________[ ] [ ]

    _[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]__________________[ ] [ ]

*the underscores are only representing space between the indicators. Cause it drops the extra spaces in the view.

    Thanks
