  1. Im also interested in this, just about to order the acl ring set but wich set do i get? obviously the RB30ET rings would be beter as they are almost twice the price. can the RB30ET rings be fitted to the RB30E pistons?

    Cheers.

Can anyone answer this? i asked it on page 230 but got no replies.....

  2. anyone able to confirm if the rings are the same on the rb30E and RB30ET pistons?

i know the pistons are different, but i have just recieved some ACL rings and they are labelled RB30T rings .

  3. Try to find an aftermarket headgasket thats thinner than 0.040".

Then there's the issue of high rpm and the pistons kissing the head.

You might get away with a 0.010" thinner headgasket but its not going to raise the compression a great deal.

Cheers cubes :) from memory a 1.2mm metal head gasket gives no change in compression on an RB26 so hopefully goin to a 1.00mm headgasket will bump it slightly, havent seen any thinner than that yet for obvious reasons .

Does anyone know the formula for working out what the compression ratio will be with a standard 30e block & r32 RB25DE head with a 1.0mm metal head gasket??

Also is there any factory valve springs that interchange with R32 RB25DE that can withstand 300rwkw? have seen stock springs float badly at 260rwkw. would RB20DET Springs be an upgrade? or RB26 etc.

    Cheers.

  4. No can do.. Grab your self a set of aftermarket pistons that suit the comp ratio you are after.

Either that or be happy with a few more $$ in your pocket and an 8.2:1 comp ratio.

Damn! is there any particular reason for this? i know there is varying thicknesses of aftermarket headgaskets.. is there a mechanical reason why this wont work? no budget for aftermarket pistons unfortunately this was my last hope.

  5. Hey guys, about to start on an RB30 build & have got most of it sussed from reading this thread except when using the standard RB30E bottom end compression seems to be around 8.2:1 & was wondering if theres an easy way to bump this up a little? most people seem to be using an RB26 head gasket so would i be able to use an aftermarket metal gasket from tomei, hks or similar thats is slightly thinner to lift compression? does anyone know the thickness of a standard RB26 head gasket? ideally aiming for compression ratio between 8.5:1 - 9.0:1

    Cheers in advance...

  6. It really depends what you want out of the car and its one of those things where you really need to feel how the 3ltr transforms the car. The mid range is simply awesome and mate that with 4wd, its unreal. I could never go back.....

    To put it in perspective.

A stock rb25det making 190rwkw odd (12psi) running the usual pfc, fmic, exhaust.

An rb30det running a gt35r .82 (18psi) at no point makes less power anywhere down low (2500-3500rpm) than a rb25det even though the rb25det still runs its stock small quick spooling turbo. :P

So essentially it lunges off idle better than an rb25 then feels like an rb25 from 2500-3500rpm then it snaps and turns in to a monster. Pretty damn good for such a big turbo.

Cubes, do you have any dyno sheets from that camparison?? It would be really interesting to see them.

  7. SyndeyKid, do u mind if i ask what rev limit you use in your RB30 engines equipped with spool rods? what is the maximum rpm you have used & what is a safe limit for circuit & drift work? ever had a failure related to them? that is damn good value for money for rods that can take 750hp! Cheers.

  8. Im also interested in buildng up an RB25DE Motor with GTR Crank & rods & some 87mm forged pistons, is there any isses with block height between rb25 & 26? ie: will fitting the gtr crank/rods raise the compression from the pistons coming further up in the bores? does anyone know what thickness head gasket to use to achieve a 9.0 comp ratio? how much more capacity will the 87mm pistons give, is that enough of an increase to call it a 2.7?? or just a "big" 2.6 if that makes any sense.

    Cheers.

  9. Yo, ive got a Garret GT25R (0.70 front & 0.64 rear) on my RB20 using a stainless high mount T3 manifold with a T3-T28 adaptor, making 258rwkw@18psi full boost at 4500rpm. I imagine it would be alot better on an RB24. or seeing as the GT25R doesnt get a great review buy some maybe the 2871R 52T would be capeable of similar power but with a lot better response. those are probably ur best options??

  10. Cheers for your advice, i think ill try installing them & see what happens. ive seen various results with guys using cams & cam gears to dial in a fatter midrange or top end by advancing/retarding the cam gears. hopefully it will bring it down slightly, even 300rpm would be great as where the power comes in now it is quite hard to drive in a drift enviroment & you have to be fairly ruthless with it wich has resulted in several broken gearboxes. Current tune is good, definately not the problem & i'm happy with the power output (258rwkw) just i bit more responce would be nice :ermm:

  11. Can adding cams do much to bring the boost threshold down? at the moment i get full boost at 4700rpm (garret GT25R 0.64) and would be awesome to be able to bring it down to around 4200rpm. is that realistic? I already have the cams, they are HKS 264's with 9mm lift but i havent installed them yet as i wanted to see what is was like without them first. Also if i install these cams do i have to upgrade the valvesprings if i dont rev the engine any harder? current rev limit is 7500rpm & have had no issues with valve bounce so far.

    Cheers.

  12. Yo everyone, just wondering if any of the RB20 owners with over 240rwkw have had engine failures or mechanical troubles when used in a circuit/drift enviroment? reason i ask is my rb20 just made 258rwkw @18psi (mods are listed here:) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...ic=103095&st=20 but the tuner recommended i only run with around 1 bar not because the tune wasnt safe, (it was detonation free at 18psi) but because the sheer mechanical strength of the motor could not take that sort of power continuously ie lots of revlimiter action in drift. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, especially from roy & other RB20 heros who use there cars in circiut or drift where are they are given a pounding.

    Cheers.

  13. Yo, my car is an A31 Cefiro with an R32 RB20det

    Mods:

    HKS Pod

    3 inch exhaust

    600x300x100 cooler

Custom inlet plenum (copy of jun surge tank)

    Garret GT25 400hp turbo (0.64/0.70)

tuned length stainless high mount manifold

    tial 38mm gate.

    GTR Fuel pump

    550cc S5 injectors

    Sard Reg @ 40psi

RB20 AFM mounted in 4 inch intake pipe

    Power FC

Just got back from tuner 2nite & the results were: 258kw@ 18psi (dynapack chassis dyno) supposedly it works out to 406hp @ the flywheel.

  14. Yo, just a thought here but would you consider going down an exhaust housing size? i assume you have the .86 housing on your GT25R if it is the 450hp version? I have the 400hp version with the 0.64 housing on an RB20 & find the spool pretty reasonable for the size of the turbo. i im getting boost build from 3000rpm with full boost (currently only 12psi due to injectors maxing out & not being tuned) at 3800rpm. which was enough to make 195kw atw. I have no doubt that this setup once tuned should make 230-240kw atw using 18psi. if your aim is only 220kw atw then i would definately change to the smaller exh. housing as that amount of lag is not worth it for that power output.

    Peace.
