  1. what to look for when looking for a quality GTR??

    Hey everyone,

im finally back on the forums after many many years. Sold my old mint R33 when my wife got pregnant some 7 years ago.

So now I'm an old 35 year old... Have the good job... wife, 2 kids, house and even a dog! Have just now began thinking of getting myself a R35 and wandering what are the things to look out for.

    cheers

  2. Camry - no problem, Evo - maybe, but still I hardly expect redlining the car during a demo drive, they'd probably push it up to 6000rpm though.

I would think those inspections would just waste your money, if you're that paranoid then save a little longer and buy new. if you're not fussed by someone previously having a go in your car then buy a demo to save a bit, bearing in mind the reduction in resale due to old plates and 2nd owner.

The dealer always says they can only knock off a little, but the reality is the demo probably needs to be gone to make way for an MY11 demo and they want to get rid of it. Unless I was saving at least 10% off the new price I wouldn't bother, everyone knows a car loses that amount as soon as it's reg'd.

I don't think a $200 inspection is a waste when your saving a few thousand. Unfortunately I have heard of a time when a repairable write off was being passed off as a demo. So better to be safe then buy a lemon.

  3. Seems like the plan is to try and negotiate cheaper price for demo. $3200 saving only on a new car seems a little low. Considering even though the low km's it is still technically a used car and used cars depreciate almost instantly by up to 20%.

So correct me if I'm wrong. Offering a price 20% lower than recommended retail would not be put of line. Maybe even push for a little bit

more considering the car is driven by the sales manager supposedly.

  4. What are people thoughts on demos? I know they are driven hard and stuff but after doing the calculation buying a demo is something which I will need to do or buy private.

I've seen a demo Evo x with only 500km on the clock in the same colour and everything I want. Price is within budget also.

I will be getting the car fully inspected and try get extended warranty. From what I've read online buying a demo is frowned upon. If it's a good deal and full warranty offered and inspection comes back positive would that be good?

Cheers and thanks for your opinions as they are always extremely helpful.

  5. Hey Guys,

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but though it would be better than starting a whole new one. I am currently looking at two cars one brand new in Adelaide and one a demo in QLD.

Being in NSW does anyone know what the process is when buying an interstate car which is new or a 6 month old demo. Can I use the rego for the 12 months then transfer? Can I get a new car in another state registered in NSW through the RTA?

Also anyone know of a trustworthy transport company I can use to transport the car to my sydney address.

Just amazing how much cheaper cars are in other states.

  6. i have heard both good and bad stories from people using brokers (the bad resulted in the guy having to take the broker to court to cover about 30k worth of repairs because the broker had done a dodgy). some people use them because they are lazy or don't have the time to go to the auctions, etc, which is fair enough. i wouldn't do it just to save money though as with a bit of research you can easily do that yourself.

if you are good at getting a good deal when buying stuff then you are essentially paying someone to save you money and it sort of defeats the purpose. on the other hand if you have paid the asking price for everything you have ever bought then it might be worth looking into as what you pay them will more than likely be less than you save.

Just thought I'd ask, looks like nothing beats the good old haggle.

Car dealerships are a nightmare, went to a new car dealer last week and had to speak with " the manager" before they'd show me the friggen car!! Oh well no pain no gain

  7. Hey Guys,

Has anyone ever used a car broker to purchase a new car? I'm not talking import brokers. Currently in the market for a new/demo family car and someone has told me about car brokers and they can possibly save me money.

Personally this seems a little too good to be true, and you know what they say about that.

If they are not a big con, anyone recommend a good one which works in the Sydney area.

Your opinions will be highly appreciated.

    Cheers

  8. there is nothing wrong with racv, theyre quite good, why would you pick a company your not sure of over racv? they give you a full report, just like every other company, sept racv has alot more experience, and if they screw it up, your insured because they have a guarentee or something on the report

In in NSW, there is no RACV here. Will take the advise of looking at the reputable workshops.

  9. I had the same issue on my old R33. It was the clutch fork which needed to be lubricated.

Squeaky when pressing and releasing, very annoying. Grabbed a can of motorbike chain grease and sprayed in the plastic flap where the fork is located. Annoying problem solved and cost me $6 to fix =)

  10. Hey Guys,

Miss owning a Skyline and thinking of getting back into one. I'm thinking about getting a 1998 R33 GTR and would like to know what to look out for during the search process. I want one in great condition.

What the common faults are and what kind of tests you would recommend done. I know of the compression test is one of the must do test besides the usual.

Anyways if you have a moment to reply any insight would be great.

    Cheers

  11. Hey guys, have issues with my current alarm/immobiliser. Lost the remotes and unable to find the override switch. Car is now unable to be turned on as its immobilised, I have turned the siren off.

I want to take out my current set up and install a new immobiliser. Can someone recommend someone is sydney?

  12. Hey Guys,

I have basically managed to misplace both of the remotes to my alarm. So my car is unable to be turned on as it is immobilised. I have used the key to turn the alarm off but I still can't turn the car on.

Have tried to find the mysterious override switch but unable to find it. So i'm pretty screwed at the moment.

The only thing I can think of is to put in a new alarm and get the old one taken off. Do I have any other options??

Also does anyone know of a trusted car alarm company who does mobile installation in the sydney area?

  13. I just put a deposit down on a 03 V35 Premium Manual with 70k on the clcok. It has brembos, leather, TV/Sat, and some lip spoilers (guess they are OEM) among other things.

The kms were genuine as I got them to show me the official import papers, don't know what you call them but they are in Japanese. The deal was 26k drive away with 5 year warranty thrown in.

I hope that's an ok price and not a ripper!

Congrats!! Enjoy the new car when do you pick it up??

Km's means nothing as long as the car is in good condition that's all that matters. 5 years warranty is nice.

Get the spark plugs checked to check for oil build up will be good to fix under the warranty.

  14. Someone buy mine! :(

63xxx kms mhm hmm! 03 manual premium with all the goodies and mods! And it's priced well too..hrmph slow market.

Yep plenty of wound back V's. I got mine inspected prior to purchase and got it from a reputable place at least.

I guess the fact you can import nice examples from Japan for real cheap pretty much kills the local market somewhat.

  15. Hahah yeah that you do, the good part about that is that you can also vouch for the k's.

Just hit 35k km on the weekend, i'm pondering the possibilities of selling it and moving to a 370gt as they seem to be coming down in price,

thought it might be an idea to sell up and do it now before the v35 350's drop too much.

Good move, I think on that note I may wait for the 370gt to come down in price a tad. Haven't heard many issues regarding them. I think they are a refined version of the V35.

  16. Hey Guys,

I have been looking at some decently priced V35 coupes through Japan dealerships. Was wondering are there companies in Japan who go out and do full mechanical inspections on vehicles. Been told this is not able to be done due to distance for mechanic to travel unable to carry full set of tools with them.

Look forward to hearing from you all.
