Plastique? So there will be a limit to how much torque you can apply. I guess the short length probably plays well with that. You chose the length based on the room you had available to swing it in?

I've made something similar with round bar, heated up and bent sharply, then a little spray with the MIG to fill out the corners of the 3/8" square and some filing to shape. I've also seen it done just using a short length of 3/8" square bar (or there are double ended male 3/8" socket accessories which can do the same thing) and a bit of plate with a 3/8" square hole broached through it to use as a handle that you can slip over the square drive.

You could probably do the job you had to do with a 12mm box spanner too. You know, the sort that you get for spark plugs on whipper snippers etc. Box spanners are beneath scorn most of the time, until one saves the day.

Yep PETG (Polyethylene terephthalate glycol), my 'go to' plastic, printed to precisely how long I wanted 🙂, about a finger length ha ha.

I would usually grind up something but since I've got the printer I thought I might give it a try and it worked beautifully ^_^b

So with regards to torque, there's a little bit of science behind the orientation of the print, fill density, fill pattern and number of external perimeters which can increase the strength dramatically, but you still need to work within the constraints of the material and the orientation of the model for sure. I certainly wouldn't be making a breaker bar out of plastic, but this little bugger is very strong for it's size that's for sure.

  2. Howdy friends,

So this evening I had a need to remove the rear compressor turbo pipe (long story, but I'm replacing it due to a bolt snapping off in the pipe and managing to then snap an extraction bit in the broken bolt, fun times -_-). The rear bolt is a bit of a bastard and very little room to get good leverage. I was able to get a 12 mm socket onto the bolt head, but none of my ratchets were able to fit, so I put together a "stubby" socket wrench to get it out and it worked surprisingly well 🙂. In the past I've "made" tools by cutting down spanners and bending them with a torch etc, but this 3D printed wrench was way less effort.

I'll be keeping this one in my "special tool draw" from now on for sure ^_^b

  3. Howdy friends,

I found a few posts on 3D printing but thought I might start a thread to consolidate the bits and pieces I make for the my R32 Skyline and update the original post as I go.

I only recently got into this hobby and for some of those obscure parts which are difficult to locate part numbers, or are no longer in production, the 3D printer is a pretty useful resource, albeit there will always be some cosmetic limitations.

I'll list model files on my Printables account for those with their own printers so you can download and print at your leisure.

If anybody has any ideas on parts they can't locate and want me to have a crack at making something, feel free to post below and I might be able to help out 🙂

    Cheers,

    Sean

  7. Hello all,

Second hand gear knob for sale in a used condition. This originally came off my HCR32 which I owned about 12 years ago

I am unsure of the part number of this particular item, however I would say it's OEM due to it's build quality and heftiness.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

  9. Hello,

For sale I have a set of genuine (Made in Japan) Work Emotion CR Kai wheels

They are 17" x 9" in bronze (MHG) with a +17 offset all round.

They are a 5 stud rim with a 114.3 stud pattern.

I've owned these wheels for over 5 years and used them on an Nissan Skyline R32 GTR with standard fenders (no guard rolling etc) and they were a perfect fit. No rubbing whatsoever.

In terms of condition 3 of the 4 are quite good with only minimal marks and scratches from everyday use. One of the four has quite a bit of rash and will need a refresh if you're so inclined. There is however no structural damage (cracks, bends etc), never been involved in an accident or leaked air.

Wheels will come with anodised blue valves as per images.

Wheels are located in Mooroolbark Victoria (3138) and I would prefer local pick-up but if your in the North / West I'm happy to meet you in the Melbourne CBD. I'm willing to post to other states however you'll need to arrange a courier to pick-up the rims.

If you have any further questions please send me a PM and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Price: $900, no swaps please.

    Cheers,

    Sean

  10. Hey all,

Here is the thread I mentioned earlier where they are discussing the 'newer' and 'older' style of steering wheels: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/349288-fitting-an-original-r32-gtr-steering-wheel/

"Older" style below - See plastic spokes that follow wheel at the back

    Older style BNR32 wheel

"Newer" style below - See round plastic behind wheel

    Newer style BNR32 wheel

Here is a screen shot of the workshop manual - appears to be the 'newer' style of wheel with the round plastic with a hole at the base allowing you to remove the horn. The 'older' style of wheel does not have this hole. If anybody with a 1994 GTR could take a few pictures of their steering wheel we can compare.

  11. Hey all,

I know this is an old thread but I recently had to do this again and I was unable to find the "hole" in the steering column to pop out the horn from the rear. As it turns out the R32 GTR steering wheels come in two varities depening on the age. The older style wheel has plastic on the back which follows the wheel spokes (such as the one I have). The other newer variety has a round plastic cover on the back. This newer style wheel is the one mentioned in the service manual. I was unable to see any way to access the horn from the rear via the steering column so I ended up using the same method for extracting the horn button.

There is another thread with somebody showing the two styles of wheels on this forum.

I hope this update is of use to somebody out there.

    Cheers,

    Sean

  12. Hey all,

As per the title I'm keen for a set of standard BNR32 suspension both fronts and rears.

I'm not fussed if the shocks are stuffed but please no damaged, twisted or rusted items please. Surface rust is fine however.

    I'm located in Victoria.

Please PM me if you have a set.

    Cheers,

    Sean

  13. R32 GTR Nissan Workshop Manual makes it very clear that:

    1. To remove the Horn Button, insert a flathead screwdriver through the slot at the side of the steering column to release the Horn Button from behind.

    2. To remove the Steering Wheel, it is not to be struck - no unbalanced axial forces.

The correct tool is a Steering Wheel Puller.

    Refer WorkShop Manual Page CH-315.

Thanks for the info mate, you're 100% correct on that one.

I didn't have access to the workshop manual at the time of the original write up

  14. Hey all,

    Just to keep you in the loop how the search is going. I went down to Toyota today to pick up the lamp but sadly there were two issues;

    1. The colour was incorrect (admittedly the bloke was unable to confirm the colour, worth a shot though)

    2. The lamp does have a rubber seal but it's different from the other one already on the car and appears to be the same "thin" rubber seal that broke last time (not really interested in using it)

I brought the parts guy out to the car to show him exactly what type of rubber seal I was after but he was unsure.

After a bit of hunting around in their system I suggested maybe a Toyota Starlet had the correct seal (I saw one at the shops the other day and both the lamp and seal looked very similar to what I was after).

Luckily for the Starlet lamp I'm able to buy the rubber seal separately which is good considering the lamp for the Camry I won't be using and hopefully some bloke will buy it on Ebay

I'll give you all an update once the Starlet seal comes in,

    Cheers,
    Sean
