  1. I agree it has been an oil supply problem then continuing to drive,

I supplied just a bare short block and had no input into anything else, such a shame for such a nice car and a forged bottom end.

There's a few things of concern I have seen in the pictures and I've been over everything with the owner in about 50 e-mails over the last few days and am more than happy to help get him going again,

  2. Definitely is an average track with all those hills on it :D

Top work as usual by Rob at RIPS.

Only thing left on the car that is Stagea is the shell :D

Lol, you'd be surprised how much is still stock stagea.

All we need now is to get the whole deal into a 1100-1200kg GTR, "on paper" (which is quite often different to reality as we both know) thats a potential of 7.90s @ 180 with the same power we used on the weekend.

  3. Awesome stuff, damn fast groceries, keep up the good work.

How's the drive line holding up ?

We have done our own 4wd auto and it has decent axles. The driveshaft from transfere case to front diff is stock, the rear diff is stock R32 GTR and the front just has a 1.5 way lsd in it.

All seems to love it so far but we havn't really layed into it power wise yet.

Just need to get the 60fts sorted then we should be on for sub 8.50s

  4. Looks great for a first time out.

Although the timers don't start untill the wheel moves past the beam, the race starts as soon as the light is green so the other guy would be long gone.

As it is it would really struggle in competition unless they have a creeper on the transbrake.

I'm sure with a little NOS that'll all be sorted and it'll be fine.

Awesome job for the first time out, looks like easy 7s.

    Robbie.

  5. For 700hp the brace is not needed and as said above I specificly wanted to test a non braced block in my own cars to see how far I could push them, keep in mind both of these (240z and FED) have been 2wd and auto) neither have had any issues at around twice the power your talking about.

For the 4wd guys and specificly the ones doing drag anywhere from 800-1000+ its a good idea, I have a few kits in VERY quick street GTRs (8 and 9 seconds in street trim) and they all swear by them and when I havn't built the bottom end myself, the customers engine builders also agree its a very worthwhile strengthening aid.

Be aware there are copies of my kit out there that I have been informed are being made from inferior materials, also, they are, as far as I am aware completely untested on an actual running engine and they are also more expensive, if you want PROVEN products, stick with the genuine RIPS kit.

  6. no offense i ask rob lots of questions if he was so keen to help and wanted my business he would entertain me and at least advise me how to go about finding where the problem came from yes or no???

I told you months ago what I thought the problem was and I still think the same thing.

Ages ago I asked you to e-mail me pictures, you havn't.

Ages ago I offered to have your engine picked up from you at a FAR lower shipping price than you had been quoted so it could be assesed, rebuilt or replaced if required, I asked where exactly you lived so i could get you a quote, you never got back to me.

You then started a thread saying you wanted to save some money and have someone teach you how to build you own engine.

Not sure what else I can do, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Good luck getting your car sorted.

    Rob

  7. Hardly seems like piss-poor power delivery for the car in question.

I'm not sure what your getting at, I havn't made any comments about the car in the videos??? Just that in some cases, some cars 1/4 mile times or mph doesn't reflect the peek power figure measured on the dyno.

Of course its also possible that a car doesn't have as much boogie as the owner might think.

Either way I didn't knock the car in the vids or say that I thought it was a lag monster.

  8. I once had a car that genuinley made 400kw atw but had shite power delivery and a shite power band and only ran 126mph also.

I agree, I know of a GTR that makes a genuine 550wkw, runs low 11s @ around 125 as the power is just way too peeky and not suited to drags at all IMO.

Just another example of how dyno peek power can mean very little in real life situations.

    Robbie.

  9. I take it you are stripping the motor after every meet to check everything is alright.

John is running about the same power as I do running 7.2s. (1300-1400hp)

Our motor went untouched for just on 3 years and I'm sure John gets a huge amount of runs/meetings from his motor as well, stripping a motor after every meeting sounds like something the old school V8 boys might do :-)

  10. Is the RIPS design patented?. If so then there could be a case for SPOOL to answer if not is just a case of bad luck. Anyone and everyone can debate the morals of copying a said design but at the end of the day this is just the harsh realities of the world we live in. I would just suggest that the there are not a multitude of ways to design one of these girdle set ups so would suggest that any girdle produced will look very close to most other designs. That being said I am not saying it is the right thing to do or that you dont have the right to be upset but unless your design is patented you have absoloutly no leg to stand on threatening legal action.

I would think that you would be better off highlighting the fact that yours is an original design that has been in production for x amount of years with roughly x number being produced and running without any drama, is machined in NZ rather than china and try to emphasize that yours is a premium product. Just that fact that SPOOLS (i assume) are machined in china will put a lot of people off as there will always be a segment of the market that will not buy or use chinese produced parts regardless of cost or claimed quality.

I hear what you are saying, lets just see what Spool has to say.

  11. They look identicle because they have to fit in the block...I dont think much could be done differently.

I think anyone with 1/2 a brain can see whats happened here, no-one with a straight face and clear concience could tell me that spool thought of and came up with that design knowing nothing about mine, IMO, there is no question they've seen mine, thought that it was the best solution seen so far and copied it either by having some to copy or by drawing them up based on pictures they have seen of my kit.

Its real sad when people like me WANT to spend time and money developing and actually testing new products to then sell to my customers, then things like this happen and I think f&*k it, I'll just keep the ideas to my self for my own engines.

I'm still keen to hear what Spool have to say about it and see if he denies copying it or admits it and doesn't care.

  12. Hang on... does RIPS actually do a 95mm stroker 3.4??? remember this girdle was created to accomodate said stroker, could just be lucky coincidence that it LOOKS like Robs...

Spools 3.4 isn't a 3.4 anyway (my RB33 was well over 3300cc), spools girdle wasn't "created" to accomodate said stroker and the billet mains caps and block brace don't even come into play with a 95mm stroke so there's no accomodation required at all in those areas.

The caps look so idendticle I wouldn't be surprised at all if you layed one set over the other that they wern't exactly the same.

IMO Its just BS that someone can come along and promote this "new product" and claim they will be "very competitivley priced" etc etc and then show an exact copy of something I have spent alot of time and money developing, its just total disrespect and greed.

  13. Hey RIPS just wondering if your design is patented. Seems as though there is not exactly a 100 different ways to produce a cap/girdle set up and just seems a bit rich to suggest that because you produced one first no one else can produce one.

As looking at both set ups it is pretty much a no brainer that both would be the most straight forward and logical way to manufacture the product. And not to take anything away from either of you guys for the efforts you put in but mate it is not exactly rocket science for any compatent machinest to produce one of these girdles. Just seems like the response from you is a bit of an overreaction on your part. But then again if you have gone to the trouble of registering your design with an international patent then that could be a different story but even if that is the case it would seem that a 10% veriation on the desighn would not be to difficult for spool to achieve if it is not already 10% different is quite difficult to tell from the pics posted. This is in no way meant to be having a dig at you just my personal take on what I have read.

Well its not actually a no brainer to come up with the way I've done it and there's more than 1 other guy who'd designed and made caps a totally different way as it appeared to them that their idea would be best, it wasn't untill he'd had trouble with it that there was a discussion on here.

Once someone see's a finished product that has had a lot of time and money invested in it, its very easy to sit there and say, "Oh thats simple as, anyone could have come up with that and any compatent machinist could make those" that doesn't make it right to just blatently copy what someone else has spent alot of time working on.

Like I say, maybe it is more of a moral issue and we'll see what Spool has to say about it, if he doesn't give a flying f&*k and he's happy to just copy anyone's products and not give it a second thought, then we'll all know where we stand and go from there.

  14. Rob, not trying to be a smartarse but even if these caps look similar to your ones can you stop someone else producing a 'similar' product ?

Or are your caps and design patented ?

Its a moral issue as much as anything, the caps look identicle to me and everyone knows I desiged this system years ago.

We'll see what Spools attitude is to the situation and go from there,

    Rob

  15. pics of main caps

WOW, you have balls posting pictures of something you have clearly just copied from me!!

Maybe its OK in China to copy anything and have no shame or morals about it but I sure didn't expect it from you.

Stop any production or use of those mains caps immediately and I hope you have a good lawyer and best you get him to get in touch with me smartly.

  16. Rob if we can go 1.35 in the 60 the car with the tune up it has in it should go 8.70 at least ,then we can up the power and hope for the best.

Not bad for a fork lift engine ay Rob ha ha

1.35 is very do-able at that weight, we did 1.39 with 1740kg so you should be OK.

My old "forklift" motor ran 7.26 on the weekend, still untouched for 2 years so I'm happy to stick with them for now, lol.

  17. People go too soft on suspension in IRS cars to their own detriment.

Now I can't say I have a huge amount of experience in dragging a street GTR but I have raced quite a few, many in the 10 second range and one running 9.4s.

Every one had old stock suspension, all ran 1.4 60fts and the heaviest of them all at 1740kg ran 1.3 60ft on stock suspension.

Maybe once your really getting ETs down to 8s and 7s firming up is needed but for most street GTRs I personally would go with the old stock struts and some real good tyres,

    Robbie.
