  1. Thats a bit ruff isnt it?

Ppl enjoy cars in different ways and for different reasons...and like to modify cars their own way. I reckon it would be fun to do it, but would only ever consider it if i was a panel beater or was best mates with a panel beater that could supply labour for free.

Some ppl may consider someone that outlays a substantial amount of money on a car, only to get somone else to drive the thing a "twat"  ...  its the owners business what they do with their car:)

You are a twat. What the original poster was asking was the definition of RICE. Why pretend your car is something it is not? Why embarass the owners of the real thing with your poor imitation?

If you build a powerful GTST, then have one and be proud of it, don't pretend it is a GTR. That's all there is to it. There is no justification for rice boys. :D

As for me, I am not allowed the drive the car for a number of reasons - and I don't class driving it as important enough to give up my job (which pays me well enough to afford the real thing in the first place).

  2. I agree with Roy to an extent. If your tuner maxed out your AFM on the Dyno then he would know the load point on the fuel map where it occured. This means that at that Max out point the fuel grid would flat line from left to right. If you know this flat line point then you can "guess" how much fuel will be needed after the max out point by following the pattern of duty increases from bofore the AFM Max out. Just to be safe you add a little more fuel to each cell after the flat line which means at full boost when you max out your afm you might be running a little rich...

I should say that I think this is only possible with a standard turbo setup due to the linier boost curve, as a steady curve allows you to guesstamate load after a AFM Max out. Turbos with a steap boost curve are harder to predict.

    My 2 cents :D

You should be on TV with talent like that - you're talking out of your arse.

There is no way in hell anyone could do what you propose. It is impossible to control how much fuel is required for the air that is being ingested without accurately measuring it - if you exceed the voltage ceiling for the AFM's, the tuner has no control over anything at and past that point.

As load increase, air ingestion does, so what happens if you tune like you propose and the guy is driving up a steep hill in 5th gear? There is no way in hell the fuel system could put enough fuel (especially in this case with injectors so close to their limit).

Infact, the Power FC is usually set to dump fuel when it detects the AFM voltage ceiling; just as it does when it detects what it believes to be knock (>= 60).

    Mario.

    [edit: spelling]

  3. Hi Paul, don't stress over the max values, they are a flash reading at a single point in time.  What you are looking for is ongoing readings.  The individual items;

    1. Knock shouldn't go over 40, so 18 is OK.

    2. Injector duty could be as a result of acceleration enrichment, don't stress until you see 90%+ holding constant speed. (ie; not accelerating).

    3. AFM readings, ditto, don't stress until you see 5.1 volts when holding constant speed. (ie; not during rapid boost build).

    :D

1/. Knock is engine and sensor dependant. No one can give you a safe figure, it will all depend on your particular engine and its idiosyncrasies.

2/. Injector duty at 92% means it hit 92% when the engine required 92%. Get larger injectors.

3/. Your AFM's are maxed out. Get larger AFM's - transient spikes? WTF? If the AFM recorded 5.1v (voltage ceiling) it means that more than the maximum amount of air able to be measured was being ingested by the engine - even a spike means that the Power FC didn't know for that period just how much air was present, so the engine would have run lean if the injectors couldn't dump enough to cover it - and which in his case, it couldn't do, as his injectors are reading 92%.

Maxed injectors and AFM's is a sure fire way to destroy an engine.

My suggestion to the original poster is to upgrade his fuel system and AFM's, or run lower boost until he can do them.

  4. You could also consider the Nismo plenum.  I can't find the web page, but somewhere they had graphs that showed (if I recall correctly) an improvement in both response and top end.

Edit: Here's a little more info:

    http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=25803

    LW.

The JUN plenum is the only one I have seen (and I've seen a lot) that is designed properly - as for the GReddy plenum; it is nothing more than a toy.

HKS GT-SS are capable of making around ~350 AWKW, but that's at the extreme end, and Jim obviously tuned your car for reliability and streetability - which sounds like what you'd asked for.

HKS GT-RS are capable of somewhere around the ~410 AWKW mark.

Note that there are a myriad of variables here, things like cams and their dial-in, valve lift, exhaust manifold design, intercooler, fuel pressure, tyre size and pressure, and much more affect your final power figure, so don't take the above figures as gospel.

  5. Mario you are a TOOL its not ANDRA it's the goverment just like leaded fuel at the servo

You are the only tool here - for talking about shit you have no understanding of.

Were you there when the agreement was made?

Were you there when the payment was made?

Were you a party to the discussion for the santioning of the fuel?

ANDRA made promises (and also charged people) to sanction this fuel. They took money and made promises that they couldn't (or didn't intend) on keeping.

ANDRA is quite adept at laying the blame at someone elses feet (in this case, Environment Australia) but the fact remains - they knew what the hell they were doing, they knew what they were promising was not possible - yet they misled people (like us) into paying them what amounted to extortion in order to sanction a fuel for use that they knew wouldn't be worth shit in a little over 6 months.

In future, keep your retarded opinions to yourself - twat.

    Mario.

  6. Hows the rebuild going mario.

Not good. ANDRA just ****ed us - again.

It appears that the engine parts we have just had made have been rendered useless - because ANDRA made us a promise that they couldn't (or never intended to) keep.

It appears that they intend on banning all leaded race fuels as of June this year, so we went through all the hassle of getting the ELF124 sorted, new engine internals designed, only to be told that we probably won't be allowed to use it...

So, no idea what is happening now. Welcome to drag racing back in the '50's...

  7. Should've asked him today - saw him with a bunch of guys at Ikea in Moore Park. Out of all places in the world you wouldn't expect to bump into him at a small cafe inside Ikea? LOL.

Ikea: It's all about the Swedish Meatballs, baby...

You should have said Hello, I don't bite - well, not normally...

  8. It works a treat both as a tuner and as a data logger, we have one for the R32 GTR and one for the R32 GTST.  The screen layout is pretty much determined by the Apexi machine code in the Power FC.  I guess they could have made it prettier, but then they would have had to charge more for it.

    PS; PM sent

Jim at CRD has the proper A'PEXi Power FC Excel writer software.

SydneyKid: As to the limitations of the DataLogit system, it is their software, not the PowerFC that is the limiting factor. If you see the Power Excel software, you'd be amazed at what else is accessible in the Power FC.

  9. rb26 is 240/236 in/ex

    rb25 is 240/240

256 to 260 is a good general setup

    T.

This is just what Mine's quote them on their website as, which is incorrect. Infact, the R32 to R34 all had slightly different cam specs.

I seem to recall that the early R32 GTR's used more along the lines of 232/228.

  10. i would like to know what you guys think of garrett truck coolers. cos i have had mixed reports about them. one is they are too laggy and don't flow as much and the other is it doesn't really matter cos you only lose about 2rwkw anyway..

anyone like to clean this up for me and other people interested in getting truck

    coolers.

Truck inercoolers are great - if you have a truck.

They are useless on a performance car.

    Mario.

  11. Well my newly aquired engine it turns out has some a/m cams in it, I am curious if anyone would know from the markings on it what manufacturer/spec the cams are?

    the 2 markings are

    a2691x

    a2691n

It could be ix and in but don't know exactly. If these markings ring a bell with anyone would be greatly appreciated for information, I tried to google them but to no avail :)

For the RB26DETT (I have to assume as you haven't bothered to list something as important as the engine spec):

I'd say the 26 could refer to either 256 or 264 degrees, the 91 to 9.1mm lift , the x to exhaust and the n to intake.

What type of engine is it? As a guess, they could well be from Mines or TODA.

As neither JUN nor HKS make 9.1mm cams, that leaves:

Mines only make 256 degrees at 9.1mm lift.

TODA only make 264 degrees at 9.1mm lift.

Hands up anyone who can get over 300 kph out of there skyline, someone may just get a world record here lol.

GTR-700: Whilst still in its road legal trim, it exceeded 320 km/h - I have no real idea as to exactly how fast it was going, but I backed off at 8,100rpm in 5th gear (standard gearbox and diffs) using 18" (265/40) tyres. Do the math.

    WARIO: 282 km/h - exactly... :D

    let us know.

I have the block, pistons and bottom end ready. ust finding out info on some of the toughening procedures that can be carried out.

    thanks boys.

    Mitch.

Also explain what it does etc.

Why are you going to O ring the block!? Copper head gasket? Jesus - do people still use and recommend such crap?!

Screw the standard rods - throw them in the bin and buy decent rods.

What are you planning to use for pistons?

What do you mean by "big boost"?

What is a "fairly big rev limit"?

How much money do you have to spend on this engine?

    Mario.

  14. How much power are you expecting/wanting to make?

The standard crank is good for 800 BHP and no more than 9.5krpm - if you can live with that, there is no need to go the whole hog for the billet crank.

I'd say just do the rods, pistons and cams and be done with it.

    * are they high or low impedance ?

    * what is their actual flow rate ?

    * How much can you normally get a set for second hand ???

    * is there any way of visually identifying them ?

Also can anyone tell me if the front and rear exhaust manifolds are the same or are they different???

    thanks evryone.

1/. I can't recall the impedance - but I think they are low?

    2/. 440cc

3/. Not sure, but I have 3 sets sitting here.

    4/. Yellow tops.
