  1. As the title says, I'm looking for a set of R33 GTR rear seats and the plastic trim that goes on both sides of the seats. Also after a R33 GTR bonnet and Rear Wing (pref original) Edit> Preferably in Sydney - PM me Please. Thanks, Chris
  2. What year GTR are these lights from - ie are they the 97 Series 3 headlights? Any pictures?
  3. Yeah, they are the older AVS model. My brother has them in 17" on his GTR. Have to say that they are quite common on white R32's. About 99% of all the wheels i have seen in this style are white. I think I have seen a set come up for sale here before, so if you want to checkout what they are worth, do a search on AVS wheels.
  4. Bleach1, Yes AVS wheels are definately worth something. What model do you have on your car? Have any piccies? They have AVS model 5, 6 and 7. They also have a older model called VS-5 or something like that. I have 18" AVS Model 5 on my new R33...they are my favourite wheel of all time so far. Pretty expensive if you want to get a set here I think. AVS are made by yokohama or one of the major jap tyre companies I think. Hope this helps.
  5. Very interesting topic! Similar to a Skyline vs Supra thread a few weeks back. Let me add my input for this topic - I have been lucky enough to own and drive both a R32 GTR and RX7 S6 concurrently for about 1-1.5 years. Which car I decided to drive really depended on where I was going to drive and what I felt like doing. To put it simply, if I was going to attack some twisties, I'd drive the RX7. If drag racing was on the agenda, then the GTR would be the go. side point => If pulling chicks was the goal, the RX7 would definately be the go! A stock RX7 will kill / slaughter / decimate a stock GTR around bends, but a stock GTR will kill / slaughter / decimate the RX7 where any sort of meaningful power is required to be put down. The thing that people often misunderstand about rotaries is that they are anything but easy cars to drive around hard - you have to rev the nuts off them to get their peak power and torque, whereas in the GTR, its all in basically by 4-4.5K rpm. This is especially moreso in the S6-S8 with the 13B-REW engine (sequential turbos). You definately feel boost from the primary turbo by 2.5k rpm, and is pretty linear all the way to 8K rpm (when you get the factory shift chime wailing at you), but the real power dosent arrive until the secondary turbo comes on at 4.5K rpm. Basically, the first of the sequential turbos is there to replace displacement, and not for any big power gains - 6-7.5k rpm is where GTR like power arrives - and if you are in the wet, or getting away off the line, be prepared for some big traction problems is all I can say! (fun though..) Secondly, the power rating of the S6-S7 is less than that of the GTR. The S6 & S7 & non RS S8's all have the 185kw 13B-REW, while only the S8 RS & RZ (super rare) models have the 206Kw 13B-REW. The engines look exactly the same, but the 206kw version has different turbos to make the extra power. The brakes on the S6-S8's are all the same. I think the S8 RS & RZ models have the RX7 SP brake system which has slightly bigger discs & calipers, and is superior to the normal versions. Given this, and a relatively lightweight chassis, makes the braking in RX7's positively awesome. It will outbrake a R32 GTR for sure - which is part of the reason why the RX7 is so good on the circuit. I cannot compare against the R33 brembo setup (havent owned or driven one - getting one within 2 weeks though ) but I would guess it would be about the same. My opinion may be exaggerated though as my RX7 was running pagid blue pads which where Friggin awesome, and the GTR were running some jap pads of unknown origin. Chassis wise, the RX7 is very tight and very well balanced. Again these attributes make it so good out on the track with ONLY 206kw and lower torque than most other jap supercars. In my opinion the balance is much better than the R32 GTR, which is quite nose heavy compared to the RX7. Think of the RX7 as a big go kart when it comes to handling. The commentary in HPI with the comparo against the GTO says it the best - you judge the apex to the millimeter, I found it difficult in the GTR, with hicas & atessa doing funny shite all the time (but it could just be my shite driving). As for top speed, I did 235km/hr one night in the RX7. My RX7 was completely stock, even down to the exhaust! It was a S6. In the GTR Im absolutely sure I cracked the double ton, but by how much I have no idea. The needle was past vertical (about 7 o'clock position), but im sure it could get over 230km/hr. It too was stock except for a cat back exh and 14psi boost. Thirst wise (for fuel) I found the two cars pretty even. I would get about 430-450 kms from the RX7 (down to light) and about 430 kms out of the GTR (down to light). It depends greatly on your driving style though, and I'd probably get more kms out of the GTR if I was running stock boost. If you were to drive the RX7 hard, you can see the fuel needle coming down though....its a bitch on fuel if you are in the happy zone all the time (4.5-8k rpm). Interior wise, the RX7 has one of the best and most classic ****pits in my opinion. Very very nice, with leather, sunroof, and quality bose sound system (std aussie models & option on jap S6-S8's). Nice shift quality from the 5 speeder, and shifter falls into hand easily. Absolute spot on guages, with big tacho right in the middle. Mine had chrome rings around the guages which I loved. you also sit very low and right above the rear diff basically, so sometimes the bumps can really be felt! Compared to the R32 GTR, the nissan feels like a maxima..not very sporty at all, but the GTR interior is functional, rather than sexy. I guess you guys know how the skyline interior is anyway, so i will stop ranting. Cost: well, aussie S6's can be had for about 32k - 45k. These are the S6 and S7 models. You CANNOT import S6-S7 RX7's from japan no matter what people say (except under private 1 year o'seas ownership rule) no matter what year. Only 1999 onward S8's are eligible, and they go for about 50-65K landed complied etc (for RS model). The RS and RZ models would be the ones to go for. RZ S8's are super rare, as it is a special edition, only in pearl white. They always go for 2.5mil yen plus. S8 RS would be the ones to get. They have the 206kw engine, and bigger brakes and are more often than not fully optioned. Maintenance: I found the little rotary to be reliable and breakdown free. I did about 15K kms in mine, had it serviced every 5000kms / 6 mths and running costs were the same as the GTR. If u want more power out of the RX7 though, this is where it is MANDATORY to have the engine rebuilt, and upgraded to a big single setup. The factory sequential turbos are rubbish above factory rated boost and power - they will give you nothing but trouble when pushed. You will need bigger apex seals, bigger intercooler (factory one is a plastic tanked P.O.S) fuel pumps/inj etc. You will have one animal of a car though after you are done. Local expertice is also abundant and plentiful (at least in Sydney). To sum up, the RX7 is the quintessential drivers car. Rear drive, light, overbraked, without electronic assistance so abundant in the GTR. All I can say is driver beware when pushing really hard in this car, especially in the wet - you will need a new set of daks after a hard drive in the wet. The GTR is great for pottering around in camry style or driving really hard without posessing RX7 levels of driver skill - you have a big electronic saftey net in the form of atessa and hicas. I guess it will come down to individual preference - but for me, there will be nothing quite like a dumped Gen 3 RX7 with a big exhaust to let out that sweet rotary wail. A classic, classy performer with both looks and performance to serve it up to bigger capacity cars. To borrow a line from HSV: I just want one! (again.......) Chris
  6. Hi all, just thought I wouls share my views on this topic. I have been in the fortunate position to have owned and driven both the Supra (RZ TT 6sp) and the Skyline (R32 GTR). I guess when choosing between the two, it really depends on how you get your thrills. The Supra and the Skyline are two completely different cars in how they react given certain situations. I still remember the awesome grip offered by ATESSA during Hi RPM getaways. That is something that the Supra will never do efficiently - get away from a standing start quickly. Sure it has Traction control, but it is useless as it cuts engine power so much. You learn to turn it off when you get into the car. However, rolling starts are a completely different story - the torque differences between the 2JZ and the RB26 are just like night and day - you can definately feel that extra torque, and in a rolling start, stock GTR's better watch out! This aspect makes driving around town a whole lot easier for those lazy to stir the 'box alot. The boost also arrives a hell of a lot earlier - 1000 Rpm or so earlier due to the sequential turbos of the Supra. Again power at low Rpms does help around town, which is where most people are going to be driving their cars around anyway. I cant compare the handling too objectively, as my Supra now has the full JIC coilover treatment, bigger 17" wheels, and better rubber than the Skyline, whereas the skyline was a bog stocker, but even so, I felt that the Skyline hid its porcine weight a lot better than the Supra does. The Skylines handling is sharp and once you get used to ATESSA (on the GTR) quite enjoyable to drive. It does suffer a little from power understeer in certain situations though in stock form - something im sure could be dialed out of the car with some suspension upgrades. The supra however, currently is very direct and handles like the go-karts I race. Good point in and very little body roll. Again - its not the standard suspension, which I suspect will be softer and more compliant, which will definately not help its cause around corners due to its weight! The supra is a large heavy car, and it never lets you forget that it is really. You feel you have prescence on the road, but I find that its driving position and design of the car makes it hard to see out of and over the bonnet. It isnt because I'm height challenged either, but more to do with the sitting position. To generalise away from what I drive now though, I would say it offers less feedback and certainly a vague feeling of precisely where you are going than the skyline does. The supra's RWD really allows you to have quite awesome fun though - especially in the wet (in an off-road controlled environment! ). You can get the Dorifto you know that you have always wanted (come on, you all know you want it!) very easily due to the low RPM torque characteristics of the engine, or you can light up the rear bags for as long as you want, if thats your thing! From an aesthetic point of view however, I have to say that a properly sorted Supra certainly looks the goods and would shat all over the R32 in this department - even if it is only a N/A . It certainly doesn't take a whole lot to tart up a Supra - bodykits are a plenty! As was previously mentioned before though, rear seat room is a joke in the Supra. I have a Recaro drivers seat in my Supra, and that negates the possibility of anything except a dog in the back seat behind me. Thing is, even if you could get enough legroom in the back for someone, they better be a dwarf, as the low glass hatch is going to give you some headaches (as you bash into it multiple times) for two people however, it is comfortable and has good legroom. The skyline however is the car to have if you want the flexibility of having the ability to carry 4 people in reasonable comfort. For me, the skyline wins, as I cannot recall how many times I have had to leave people stranded for only having 2 seats in the car. Personally, I think that the cokpit design for both cars is pretty ordinary (its better in the R33). The Supra designers were on drugs when they did the design, as it seems their brief was to use as much of the interior space on the dash as possible - as such the dash posesses way too much space for all the buttons, and you get heaps of space between all the functions required - hello plastic city. The R32 design is sound, but hey, these cars are getting old, and they are starting to look that way too - but let me add that in my opinion, its certainly better that the Supra. Side point => Best dash, cokpit, and seating design ever - S6,7,8 RX7 (but dont get me started on that car as well....) To conclude - whichever car you decide to get really depends on what you are after. If you are into the looks side of things (ahem....a rice boi), I'd say that there is no better place to start than with a Supra. Buy a updated 96+ model with the bigger brakes, new dash, and grey taillights, then wack your choice of body mods onto that. I'm sure you wont be dissapointed. Dont forget, the US Supra scene is HUGE (much bigger than anywhere else in the world I think) so parts and support would be much easier to obtain. Nothing quite so frustrating as waiting a week for a part from Japan to get your car back on the road. However, if you are more of a driver, and enjoy a challenge, then I'd have to say buy a R33 GTS-t and extract the performance out of that - it has a good engine and suspension, its RWD , and quite restricted from the factory. If properly modified, you may be able to keep up with some of the BPU Supra TT's in the States. Dont forget though, R33's are rarer over there, so I would guess you would stand out a whole lot more (than say here in Sydney). So decide what you want out of your car and choose appropriately! Hope this long a$$ reply can help you out - let me know if there is any other aspects that I havent covered sufficiently as I'm more than happy to help out with some information. Cya, Chris
  7. More Specifically to KamikazeR33's post, they are almost right next to the drivers side exit of the intercooler end tank. If you kneel and look into the bumper on that side, you should see two silver cylindrical things hanging off the IC piping. This is only correct however, if you still have the 2 standard GTR BOV's in place. I hope for your sakes that it is just a boost leak somewhere in the system (which is most likely), and not anything more major!
