RB20/25 Turbo Upgrade
Hi Guys,
I have a HR31 coupe with the standard NICS rb20 redtop. I've been looking into alternative turbo upgrades since blowing up my rb25 turbo I had installed on the car.
I was going to get hypergear to build me one then came across this on ebay....
I know kinugawa turbos are quite popular and people get great results for the price, but I've never seen one with the OEM intake housing...
Anyone have any info no these, or know what's rebuilt, hiflowed etc. I've tried to contact the seller without success.

Yes, i have searched this extensively on this site, and multiple others....
i need to fit a bigger alternator to the RB25. i am drawing roughly 100amps, and obviously the stock alt cant keep up...
people are mentioning different models, such as the BXN1250, the BXN12121 and the BXN1231. but then all these options are shut down... the 1250 doesnt fit. the 12121 only produces 6amp at idle and the 1231 is only 80amps.
people have also mentioned that you can rewind the alt to a higher output capacity, or even have internals changed with AU xr8 or vt v8 parts.... but i have spoken to over 10 auto elecs, and also mechanics, and no one says they can do it.
has anyone fit an alternator out of another car, such as a maxima, with approx 120amp output onto a RB25? i dont care if i need to do modification work to fit it in, but i am sure someone out there has a solution to this question.....

my response was not semi-smart arseish.... im not an idiot, i was trying to help out another user on this thread with similar problems to me.
the reason for not posting my engine details were cos its not my thread, the problem we are trying to fix here is of the original poster, not mine. i was offering personal experince in hope of helping him.
i use the search function excessively, when i cant find the exact answer to my question, i will post.
if it is ECU airflow cut, is there any reason it would be happening below 12psi?

i gave no knowledge about my engine because it is somewhat irrelevant to the question at hand.
if someone was asking why their turbo exploded at 30psi you would obviously need to know what turbo they have.
my question was simple, is it worse with more boost?

who ever is running 15psi needs shooting .
and do a search FFS
its f**ked coils
a f**ked afm will make the car not run over 2500 and sound like a rotor
mind telling me why I should be shot for running 15psi, when you have no knowledge about my engine?

not trying to hijack..... but have a similar problem....
if you put your boost lower, does it still do it?
cos mine is not as bad when running lower boost.... if i run 15psi, as soon as it spools up to 15, car jerks around and cant even drive it, just cuts in and out of power quite harshly.... but on low boost, 9psi, car just flat spots but still revs. see if that happens to you, cos i think its coils packs for me.... i changed plugs and regapped to .8 but still no good.....
dont think its injectors cos AF gauge reads rich while its coughing, jerking and spluttering....

just wanted to finish up this tread for anyone else who has teh same problem in the future....
problem was injector not firing, and as a fail safe, the ECU will not give signal to coil pack to spark if injector is not firing to prevent leaning out...

i just checked continuity to ECU from coil packs, and they are all the same.... WTF?
how does one cylinder not fire when 12v, earth and ECU connections are all there?

please guys, i am desperate for help!
i dont know what is going on with my car.....
cylinder 3 is not firing at all. there is continuity in all wires to the coil pack loom from all plugs.
after testing wires, i determined that coil packs turn on via the earth connection in the plug....
the only way i can get cylinder 3 to spark is if i piggy back the earth wire from another coilpack onto the earth wire to cylinder 3 coil pack, but i am thinking none of the cylinders fire together cos it still misses.....
its not a faulty coil pack or spark plug.
it cant be injector related cos spark plug is wet when i pull it out
does any other cylinder fire at the same time as cylinder 3 from the front of the engine?
does anyone know the pin out on the ECU for cylinder 3 coil pack so i can trace continuity to ECU???
i HAVE SEARCHED AND SEARCHED, BUT NO ONE I CAN FIND HAS THIS PROBLEM....

Thanks for info guys. I want something responsive for a street car, so pretty confident i'll get a better result from hypergear, I'll have to pay a bit more but hopefully worthwhile.
