  1. yes, but you are talking mechanical, and we all know that Toyota over engineer... but with the exception of the Caldina, everything that Toyota have pushed off the production line post 2001, as far as I can recall, have looked like crap.

It is like the people in charge of the aesthetics of their cars have no emotion what-so-ever.

They needed to be a bit bigger too... but I do love the newer models (not so much the interior though).

Yep, they're just too damn ugly! I mean, the crown wagon looks like a funeral car, for crying out loud!

    Its hideous!

  2. Could be timing belt related also. After I put on a Gates racing belt I had a whine when the car was at idol, turns out some of the paint had come off the belt and stuck to the tensioner - idler bearings. Cleaned them off, loostened the belt a touch(after it had been run in for a reasonable amount of time) and the noise went away.

    will take a look, thanks!

Its kind of weird, cause it happens only if I take the foot of the gas... but can be with a gear engaged or on idle (it is AT)... the only thing that makes it stop anytime is accelerating. Also, if I floor-it for a moment ( and put a big smile on my own ugly face), it usually goes away completely... until the next time I start it, after leaving it parked for some hours  .

Guess I'll take it to Nissan again and ask them to check the timing belt too.

    Anybody has another guess?

  3. hey guys,

I saw a post by DaveB, from last September, on a similar noise but mine happens on different situations, so I'm posting it anyway:

I got this, very annoying, whining sound on the first half-hour to an hour after I start the car.

Anytime. Morning, afternoon, on a hot day or not. I took it to Nissan (I live in Japan) and the guys concluded that it is from the water pump.

Starts a few minutes, or even seconds, after I start the engine and it stops if I hit the brakes, put it in neutral and release the breaks (clutch?). It also stops after driving for more than an hour.

So, could it really be some dust/dirt inside the water pump (Nissan's guys idea) or could it be some clutch related stuff (hope not  , I love this car)?

By the way, it is a 97'Stagea 25XFour, with 86.000 under its belt. Last complete service was at 55K (yep, I'm delaying it a bit... just got a babe and was kind of short on cash  )

  4. hey, you guys are kind of lucky over there in Australia.

I'm paying 171 australian cents per litre of premium gas here in Japan. :D

3 months ago, it was 135, but the twerps decided to raise the taxes again.

My Stagea yelds some 5 km/l in the city and some 8 Km/l on the road, so im having a hard time over here, hehe :D

  5. Well, no vibes at free-rev.

It happens precisely from 1800-2000 rpm at 1st and 2nd. No vibes at 3rd or 4th.

Hope its not serious (have no money for serious right now, hehe).

I'll take it to a mechanic to check it under.

    Thanks guys!

  6. The oil levels are ok. Just the boot one is close to minimal... but ill top it. Anyway, since the snow is gone im not using 4WD, so that shouldnt be the problem right?!

    The tires are also ok.

Well, ill check the front driveshaft.

    Thanks!

  7. Hey guys, im getting a strange vibration at the first and/or second gear(s).

Usually it comes around 1500-2000 rpm and goes away when the 3rd kicks in or the rpm increases (AT).

Cannot really precise the place but sounds like it comes from the left side of the car... wierd...

Is not strong, and its not coming through the steering wheel.

Do you guys have any ideia of what could it be? :D

I've searched the forum and couldnt find anything like it...
